CALLER: Hey, Rush. How you doin\u2019?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Fine, sir. Thank you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Good. You know, I originally started, and I want to go immediately back to it. I wanted to make some comments about Rudy, and Rudy last night. You watched the same press conferences I did, or the announcement by Schwarzenegger, his promote — you know, his backing McCain.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, I saw that.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I was just curious, though, and maybe I\u2019m just dreaming here. Do you think there is a ghost of a chance that come nomination time — and, you know, if McCain does go this far — that Rudy might be his vice presidential candidate?<\/p>\n

RUSH: You know, I haven\u2019t even thought about who McCain\u2019s vice presidential candidate would be.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah. <\/p>\n

RUSH: David Broder however, big liberal writer for the Washington Post is advising us to choose Huckabee.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Because he\u2019s a conservative and would essentially be president-in-waiting.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Let\u2019s see. <\/p>\n

CALLER: You know, I was just taken with their closeness over the last two days, and I thought, ‘Hmm, I wonder if there is a ghost of a chance.\u2019 Of course, New York papers say that that won\u2019t happen. Rudy will go back to his…<\/p>\n

RUSH: It\u2019s not going to be Lindsey Graham. It\u2019s not. <\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah? <\/p>\n

RUSH: He doesn\u2019t need South Carolina. It\u2019s not going to be Lindsey Graham.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Mmm-hmm.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No. It\u2019s not going to be Lindsey Graham. <\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Look, I may be wrong. I don\u2019t know. Lindsey Graham is certainly close enough to him to die of anal poisoning.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (chuckles)<\/p>\n

RUSH: You know, you talk about Rudy. It might be Rudy because Rudy is out there and could maybe theoretically could bring the Northeast, bring New York.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah. I\u2019m wondering.<\/p>\n

RUSH: But then you gotta figuring this out, you gotta go to McCain\u2019s temperament, and is McCain going to want to choose anybody people might like better than him? Is McCain going to choose anybody who might bring more to the table on some things than McCain does? I don\u2019t know. I haven\u2019t gotten down that road yet. I would think McCain might choose, if this rift conditions… He might try to buy recalcitrant conservatives off by asking some conservative to be the vice president, which might give some people pause to consider — using Broder\u2019s line, now. Broder said this. I didn\u2019t. I\u2019m just repeating it. ‘President-in-waiting.\u2019 Why is that relevant? You go back to Anna Quindlen yesterday — I didn\u2019t say it; she did — in Newsweek magazine: ‘How Old Is Too Old?\u2019 There are these subtle hints here that McCain is archaic and so forth. I can tell that you are very emotional about Rudy getting out and you would be excited for Rudy to get back in here. You know, he could be attorney general. He could be. You never know. There\u2019s going to be some payback here if McCain goes all the way, and Schwarzenegger can\u2019t do veep.
