RUSH: While I was gone, I had Paul Shanklin<\/a> working on a couple of global warming update themes, in addition to the one that I\u2019m going to use. I\u2019m going to use the Crazy World of Arthur Brown and “Fire.” It\u2019s a shortened version. It works. But I also had Shanklin cut two. I said, “Look, we need to do a takeoff on ‘What a Wonderful World,\u2019 a Louis Armstrong song sung by Algore, and ‘Ring of Fire\u2019 by Johnny Cash, sung by Algore as well.” I don\u2019t want to play the whole versions here, but just to give you a sample, let\u2019s play the “Ring of Fire” parody first, Mister Broadcast Engineer. Both of these are Algore as portrayed by Paul Shanklin, just to give you a heads-up. <\/line>(“Ball of Fire” parody song.)<\/a> <\/line>RUSH: Okay, that\u2019s enough of that one. Now, this is a takeoff on “What a Wonderful World.” We call it “What a Horrible World.” That\u2019s a great tune by Louis Armstrong, by the way. We\u2019ve butchered it here quite appropriately for Algore. <\/line>(“What a Horrible World” parody song.)<\/a> <\/line>RUSH: Okay, that\u2019s just a sample. These will be in the rotation along with, “I am the god of hellfire!” by the Crazy World of Arthur Brown, and just to give you an illustration of how absurd it is getting: the Valentine\u2019s Day bouquet has become the latest problem, the latest cause c?l?bre among environmental campaigners. The Valentines bouquet! “Latest Government figures show<\/a> that the flowers that make up the average bunch have flown 33,800 miles to reach Britain. In the past three years, the amount of flowers imported from the Netherlands has fallen by 47 per cent to 94,000 tons, while those from Africa have risen 39 percent to 17,000 tons.” So these Valentine bouquets in Great Britain are causing global warming! There\u2019s also a calculation today by some University of Illinois guy that the number of overweight people<\/a> driving around in cars and trucks and so forth is causing X-number of millions of gallons of gasoline to be wasted every year. It\u2019s gotten this ridiculous, in the sort of transferring the guilt to everybody for destroying the planet and creating all kinds of pollution. <\/line><\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/line>RUSH: Peter in Memphis, I\u2019m glad you called. You\u2019re up first today. Welcome to the EIB Network.<\/line>CALLER: Thank you, Rush. It\u2019s an honor. It\u2019s my first time getting through. One point I wanted to make as a conservative is: I think we could take this as a golden opportunity to quit arguing with the liberals and say, “Look, let\u2019s take this opportunity now with our business know-how, innovation, research ability or our money and be the leaders in the world in non-carbon-based fuels.” Case in point: have a Manhattan-type project to develop a prototype nuclear fusion generator, which once that succeeds — and there\u2019s a lot of work to be done on that, but once that would succeed — you\u2019d take… Overnight, literally, you\u2019d take the Middle East out of the equation. And I think considering the fact that with — forget about the climate change issue, look at petro politics and geopolitics and economics and so on. What if we could be the innovators in fusion-based energy and other renewable non-carbon-based fuels and say, “Look, let\u2019s take a positive, optimistic approach about the future,” as Americans and conservatives, and say, “We can do this. We can overcome it,” and I think there\u2019s a lot to be said for the fact that if you go back to the Middle Ages where coal has been used and is still being touted in China as the main source of fuel for the future for hundreds of years, and oil has been used for a hundred years. Surely we\u2019re better innovators and better at research and, you know, forward thinking, intelligence and so on, to come up with better ways to do it than digging rock and pumping black goo out of the ground.<\/line>RUSH: Hold it, just a second, just a second. I appreciate what you\u2019re saying out there, but I don\u2019t think that conservatism needs a sparkplug or a boost to be innovative, and I don\u2019t think freedom requires that, either. I think the country here has proven itself and the people who make this country work are its entrepreneurs and the people who come up with these solutions. Necessity is the mother of invention. It just isn\u2019t there yet. Everything else… You talk here about missing the golden opportunity or the politics of climate change? That\u2019s precisely what this is, the politics of climate change! I keep seeing the word “consensus<\/a>” associated with the notion that there\u2019s global warming. Most of the global warming, by the way, is supposed to occur when? During the winter. The 1999 winter was bad, the 2000 winter. This is bad, this winter. There\u2019s nothing warming about this winter, unless the global warming crowd wants to sit there and tell you that every weather extreme is due to global warming — which they want to do. It\u2019s the gullible and the easily guilty who will fall for this sort of stuff. <\/line>But when it comes to new fuels and so forth, I think that that will happen in and of itself, as it always has, if the society is kept free. But when the government gets behind it, when the government starts directing the private sector to come up with these kind of things, what do we get? We get the electric car, which nobody wanted! We get the Prius, we get the hybrid, which, by the way, there are no longer<\/a> lines to buy them. The prices are coming down. They\u2019re not the panacea. I don\u2019t fault people for trying here, but these things are not the answer. You want fusion and this sort of thing? My gosh, we haven\u2019t gotten the people of this country to go along with going nuclear yet, and you want to start talking about fusion and these sorts of things? You\u2019re going to have… You watch. The minute that comes up in a very public way, the very people that are going to oppose it are the very people who are telling you that everything else we\u2019re doing is polluting and destroying the world. Folks, why do you think the latest predictions say that global warming is going to go on for hundreds of years, maybe a thousand years? Because they\u2019ve given themselves a 1,000-year issue! They don\u2019t have to say anymore, “It\u2019s going to get worse in five years, 10 years, 20 years, 30 years,” because they\u2019ll be wrong and they\u2019ll be proven to be wrong. So they give themselves thousands of years here for an issue to continually be used to pummel people over their heads. <\/line><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
