RUSH: So many of you were interested in Obama, let\u2019s start. I\u2019ve got one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. I was given 11 Obama bites today. Eleven Obama bites, so let\u2019s get rolling. Let\u2019s start with Saturday in Chicago, a portion of Senator Barack Obama announcing his candidacy for president.<\/line>OBAMA: That is why in the shadow of the old state capitol where Lincoln once called on a house divided to stand together, where common hopes and common dreams still live, I stand before you today to announce my candidacy for president of the United States of America!<\/line>RUSH: (Clapping.) Yip yip yip yip yahoo. So what do we have here? “In the shadow of the old state capitol where Lincoln once called on a house divided to stand together, where common hopes and common dreams…” Does he realize that quoting Lincoln is not going to really help with the Jesse Jackson crowd? Well, let\u2019s move on. We don\u2019t have a whole lot of time for this. Here\u2019s a montage of some of his remarks during his candidacy announcement, and again, we\u2019re being told (breathless), “This guy is brand-new! He\u2019s unique! He\u2019s fresh! Why, we haven\u2019t heard this before! This is something historic.” Tell me what\u2019s new here.<\/line>OBAMA: Let\u2019s recruit a new army of teachers and give them better pay. Let\u2019s make college more affordable. Let\u2019s invest in scientific research. Let\u2019s lay down broadband lines through the heart of inner cities. Let\u2019s make it possible for hard-working Americans to save for retirement. Let\u2019s allow our unions and their organizers to lift up this country\u2019s middle class again. Let\u2019s be the generation that ends poverty in America. Every single person willing to work should be able to get job training that leads to a job and earn a living wage. Let\u2019s be the generation that says, right here, right now, we will have universal health care in America by the end of the next president\u2019s first term.<\/line>RUSH: Yay! Yay! I\u2019m all for it! Goody goody gumdrops! Okay, want to go through this? Let\u2019s go through this. “Let\u2019s recruit a new army of teachers and give them better pay.” That\u2019s really new. “Let\u2019s make college more affordable.” Yeah, well, you mean like the Senate is going to do here by making more of it deductible? It\u2019s just going to allow your college professor buddies, Barack, to raise tuition. You know what this little game is all about. College more affordable? Government is going to do all this? Government is going to demand all this happen? Libs have been trying to fix all this stuff for all these years, and all they\u2019ve done is made it all worse. “Let\u2019s invest in scientific research.” What are we investing in now? Let\u2019s invest in scientific…? You guys are trying to shut down as much scientific research as you can when it\u2019s made by Big Drug. <\/line>“Let\u2019s lay down broadband lines through the hearts of inner cities”? My gosh, this goes back to let\u2019s build phone lines out in the sticks so that farmers back in the thirties and forties can get telephones, and we\u2019re still paying the tax on that — and then Algore had his same proposal: let\u2019s make sure every school is wired for the Internet. I thought he and Clinton did that. We saw them actually pounding the nails. Now we have to get “broadband into the hearts of our inner cities.” Nothing about the kidneys <\/emphasize>of our inner cities or the testicles <\/emphasize>of our inner cities, but the “hearts” of our inner cities. “Let\u2019s make it possible for hard working Americans to save for retirement.” (Sigh.) We\u2019ve been there, done that. It\u2019s called a 401(k), Keogh plan, Barack. <\/line>People have already done this. “Allow our unions and their organizers to lift up this country\u2019s middle class again”? Barack, the middle class is thriving. Union membership is down 7%, nongovernmental union membership\u2019s plummeting. They don\u2019t define the middle class anymore. “Let\u2019s be the generation that ends poverty.” There\u2019s nothing new here, folks. There\u2019s nothing to go, “Woooooowie! Yes! Let me have it,” and then there\u2019s one more before we go to the break. This is Sunday in Ames, Iowa at Iowa State University. Barack Obama talking about the war in Iraq.<\/line><\/p>\n

OBAMA: It should have never been waged and to which we now have spent $400 billion and have seen over 3,000 lives of the bravest young Americans wasted.<\/line>RUSH: Now, Barack is out saying you know, he didn\u2019t really mean that because there\u2019s such thing as wasted lives and so forth — and he\u2019s typical. I don\u2019t know if this was invented on Oprah or whatever, “Well, that\u2019s not really who I am! That\u2019s not what I really think.” Well, you said it, and you probably meant it. The gaffes probably represent truth and you gotta go out and massage the truth. “Well…(Muttering.)” He\u2019s on 60 Minutes Sunday night. Steve Kroft said, “Your mother was white; your father was African. You were raised in a white household. Yet at some point you decided you were black.”<\/line>OBAMA: I\u2019m not sure I decided it. Uh, I think, uh, you know, if you — if you look African-American in this society, you\u2019re treated as an African-American, uh, and, uh, when you\u2019re a child in particular, uh, that is how you begin to identify yourself.<\/line>RUSH: So are we to conclude here that he didn\u2019t define himself as black, that the way he looks does? (Sigh.) Okay. We\u2019ve got Obama\u2019s wife in here. We\u2019ve got John Howard from Australia coming up, but, “I\u2019m not sure I decided it”? Well, if you didn\u2019t decide it, then how did it happen? <\/line>Well, when you look like that, that\u2019s what you are. <\/emphasize><\/line>Well, renounce it, then! If it\u2019s not something you want to be, if you didn\u2019t decide it, renounce it, become white! <\/line>BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, back to our Barack Obama Audio Sound Bite Marathon. What are we up to now? Let\u2019s see. Oh, yeah. Obama just said he wasn\u2019t sure that he decided he was black, that if you look African-American in this society, you\u2019re treated as an African-American, and when you\u2019re a child in particular that\u2019s how you begin to identify yourself. If you don\u2019t like it, you can switch. Well, that\u2019s the way I see it. He\u2019s got 50-50 in there. Say, “No, I\u2019m white.” Obama\u2019s wife got in on the act on 60 Minutes. What\u2019s her name? Michelle. And Kroft says here, “Michelle, this is a tough question to ask but a number of years ago Colin Powell was thinking running for president, and his wife Alma really didn\u2019t want him to run. She was worried about some crazy person with a gun. Is that something that you think about?”<\/line>MRS. OBAMA: I don\u2019t lose sleep over it because the realities are, you know, as a black man, Barack can get shot going to the gas station, you know, so you (Laughing.) You know, you can\u2019t — you know, you — you can\u2019t make decisions based on fear and the possibility of what might happen. We — we just weren\u2019t raised that way.<\/line>RUSH: That was Sunday night. This is Ames, Iowa, in his speech before thousands at Iowa State. I think he gets heckled here.<\/line>OBAMA: Energy. We know —<\/line>PROTESTORS: (Chanting.)<\/line>OBAMA: All right, guys. All right, guys. Come on, now. You know, you made — you made your point. We\u2019re all going in the same place. We, uh — all I\u2019m asking is just the courtesy to let me finish until we start addressing your point. That\u2019s all I\u2019m asking for.<\/line>RUSH: What were they shouting? Could you tell what they were shouting? It\u2019s a bunch of angry protesters there. “Out of Iraq now,” rhymes with… Yeah, anti-war guys. Well, Barack will address their concerns after he makes his point. We\u2019re not going to hang around long enough to hear that. John Howard, the prime minister of Australia, on Saturday said this about Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama.<\/line>HOWARD: He\u2019s a long way from being president of the United States. I think he\u2019s wrong. I think that would just encourage those who want to completely destabilize and destroy Iraq and create chaos and a victory for the terrorists to hang on for an Obama victory. If I were running Al-Qaeda in Iraq, I would put a circle around March 2008 and pray as many times as possible for a victory not only for Obama but also for the Democrats.<\/line>RUSH: Well, this didn\u2019t sit well with Barack. It didn\u2019t sit well with Obama. Yesterday in Chicago, at a press conference, he was asked about what John Howard said, and this is what Obama said in response.<\/line><\/p>\n

OBAMA: I think it\u2019s flattering that, uh, you know, one of George Bush\u2019s allies on, uh, on the other side of the world started attacking me a — a day after I announced. I take that as a ? a compliment. So if he\u2019s ginned up to uh, uh, um — to — to — to fight the good fight in Iraq, I would suggest that he, uh, calls up another 20,000 Australians, uh, and sends them to Iraq.<\/line>RUSH: Wait a second. Now, I know that sounds like a pretty good put-down to some people, but it doesn\u2019t jibe intellectually, <\/emphasize>because Obama wants to pull out of there forthwith. Unilateral withdrawal now! He\u2019s probably a little shocked by this comment from John Howard. Now we\u2019ve got two more of these. This is not going to matter to anybody, but we\u2019re just going to get it out there on the record in case you haven\u2019t heard it. This is Obama on Meet the Press, January 22nd, 2006.<\/line>OBAMA: I will serve out my full six-year term.<\/line>RUSSERT: So you will not run for president or vice president in 2008? <\/line>OBAMA: I will not.<\/line>RUSH: I will not run.<\/emphasize> I\u2019m telling you, folks, there is more of this couple and candidacy that reminds me of the Clintons than I can begin to tell you — and here\u2019s Obama two years ago. This is at a press conference saying that he didn\u2019t have the experience to run for president.<\/line>OBAMA: I am a — a believer in knowing what you\u2019re doing when you apply for a job, and I think that if I were to seriously consider running on a national ticket, I would essentially have to start now, before having served a day in the Senate. Now, there\u2019s some people who are — might be comfortable doing that, but I\u2019m not one of those people.<\/line>RUSH: Eh, that\u2019s November 8th, 2004. He said he wasn\u2019t running, didn\u2019t have experience, but of course none of that matters now — and this is not going to matter to anybody, because that was then and this is now. But I\u2019m telling you, the similarities here between the Obamas and the Clintons is stunning in more ways than one. Obama also said on February 11th in Iowa Falls, Iowa — this is really mystifying to me. Barack Obama said Sunday, “‘name recognition\u2019 would be his toughest challenge in the 2008 presidential campaign.” Really? Name recognition? Who in the world is not going to remember Barack Obama, Barack Hussein<\/emphasize> Obama? <\/line>Well, Ted Kennedy, yeah, but the idea there\u2019s going to be a name recognition problem here is absurd. The poor guy has hurdles, but this isn\u2019t one of them. Let\u2019s see. What did he say? The first term senator said, “Well, they have an infrastructure…” He\u2019s talking about Hillary and John Edwards. “They have an infrastructure and name recognition higher than mine so there will probably be a higher burden of proof for me.” Yeah, but look, O\u2019 Clean One. The Drive-Bys don\u2019t love them as much as they love you, and so you will not have to go as far and work as hard to establish your name recognition, which is such a nonsensical comment in the first place. Anyway, that\u2019s the Obama stack; those are the Obama sound bites, and those were my witty comments concerning them. <\/line><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
