RUSH: By the way, Obama\u2019s fundraising. I told you this yesterday. ABC was late. I told you, Obama raised more money than Hillary, and he did it with almost twice as many donors. All of his money is for the primary. Twenty-five mil for the primaries, Hillary $26 million total for the primary and general. ABC finally on the case. <\/p>\n

Rudy Giuliani may have stepped in it here on CNN talking about federal funding for abortion. He was talking to Dana Bash, the reporterette there at CNN, and here\u2019s what he said to the first question.<\/p>\n

GIULIANI: I\u2019m in the same position now that I was 12 years ago when I ran for mayor, or as mayor, which was personally opposed to abortion, don\u2019t like it, hate it, advise that woman have an adoption rather than an abortion. I\u2019ll help you find the money for it. But it\u2019s your choice. It\u2019s an individual right. You get to make that choice. I don\u2019t think society should be putting you in jail for it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: All right, what he\u2019s saying is, he\u2019s making the case here for federally funded abortions on the basis, ‘Look, it\u2019s a constitutional right, folks, and there\u2019s nothing we can say that makes it otherwise. It\u2019s a constitutional right.\u2019 All right, fine, as far as it goes, but nowhere does the Constitution say that people get paid to exercise their rights, and that\u2019s what the snafu here is about, is about federal funding for abortions. You know, just because you have a right doesn\u2019t mean you have to exercise it and that when you do somebody is going to pay you for it, particularly the federal government. Dana Bash said, ‘Well, one of the things that you\u2019ve said is that you will appoint strict constructionist judges.\u2019<\/p>\n

GIULIANI: That\u2019s my philosophy. It\u2019s the only way I can really see that we protect the separation of powers, personal liberties — and by ‘strict constructionist judges,\u2019 I mean judges who will interpret the meaning of the Constitution. A strict constructionist judge can come to either conclusion about Roe against Wade. They can look at it and say, ‘Wrongly decided 30 years ago. Whatever it is, we\u2019ll overturn it.\u2019 <\/p>\n

BASH: What\u2019s your personal view on Roe v. Wade?<\/p>\n

GIULIANI: — or they can take a look at it and say, ‘It\u2019s been the law for this period of time, therefore we\u2019re going to respect the precedent.\u2019 Conservatives can come to that conclusion as well. I\u2019d leave it up to them. I would not have a litmus test on that.<\/p>\n

RUSH: So he\u2019s given the strict constructionist nominees a wide berth. They can respect precedent and not touch Roe v. Wade, or they can overturn it and claim it\u2019s bad law. He\u2019s not going to have a litmus test on this. Here\u2019s the final one. The answer speaks for itself. We don\u2019t need the question.<\/p>\n

GIULIANI: Generally that\u2019s my view, abortion is wrong, abortion shouldn\u2019t happen, personally you should counsel people to that extent. When I was mayor, adoptions went up, abortions went down, but ultimately it\u2019s a constitutional right, and therefore if it\u2019s a constitutional right, ultimately, even if you do it on a state by state basis, you have to make sure that people protected.<\/p>\n

BASH: So you support taxpayer money, public money for abortion in some cases?<\/p>\n

GIULIANI: If it would deprive someone of a constitutional right, yes. If that\u2019s the status of the law, then I would, yes.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, that to me is interesting. If you have a right to do something but don\u2019t have the money, then you\u2019re being denied your access to the constitutional right.
