RUSH: People think that the Democrat-led Congress is doing just as a dreary a job as President Bush. ‘Following four months of bitter political standoffs that have seen little progress on Iraq and a host of domestic…\u2019 Do you really think the low congressional approval is because they haven\u2019t done anything in Iraq? I think it\u2019s the exact opposite. I think the Drive-By are fooling themselves here. I think the low approval ratings are precisely because they\u2019re trying to lose the war. I have never bought this notion that the majority of the American people want out of Iraq or that they want to lose the war. I don\u2019t believe it. The Democrats say that\u2019s what last year\u2019s elections meant. I don\u2019t believe it for a second.<\/p>\n

I think that people like Pelosi and Reid and the faces of the Democrat Congress are getting low approval numbers because people are sick and tired of doom and gloom and negativism and ‘Bush sucks\u2019 and ‘Bush lies\u2019 and all this, and trying to engineer defeat. I think that\u2019s the dirty little secret here. ‘Only 35 percent approve today of how Congress is handling its job. That\u2019s down five points in a month. That gives lawmakers the same bleak approval rating as President Bush who has been mired at about that level since last fall. Now, Representative Tom Cole, a Republican from Oklahoma who heads the House GOP\u2019s campaign committee said, ‘It\u2019s mostly Iraq, plus lack of progress in other areas. They\u2019re not good numbers for an incumbent. Doesn\u2019t matter if you have an R or D next to your name.\u2019 This is bad news. when a Republican thinks that low congressional approval is because of Iraq. It may be because of Iraq, but it ain\u2019t because we haven\u2019t pulled out of there. Folks, if it were, they would have had no trouble overriding President Bush\u2019s veto. They would not have had to spend $24 billion in pork to pass the troop reduction bill in first place, or withdrawal bill. It\u2019s all a smokescreen. It\u2019s like those 11 moderates that went up to see Bush. The White House is fit to be tied over this. It\u2019s about time, by the way. The White House is firing back at a couple of these Congressmen for going to Tim Russert and spilling the beans about what happened in the meeting. As well they should.<\/p>\n

‘Top Bush administration officials lashed out at a pair of House Republicans at the White House yesterday after details about a contentious meeting between President Bush and GOP legislators were leaked to the media earlier this week. … Reps. Ray LaHood (R-Ill.) and Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) attracted the ire of White House officials for allegedly speaking to reporters about a Tuesday meeting between Bush and centrist Republicans…\u2019 They\u2019re now calling them ‘centrist Republicans.\u2019 The first day they were talking about this they were talking about ‘Republicans.\u2019 Now they\u2019re identifying them because I did it yesterday. These were all moderates that went up there. I\u2019m going to tell you, folks, it\u2019s very, very simple. If these Republicans really cared about Iraq, and if their real mission in going to see Bush was to try to get this off the dime, they wouldn\u2019t have said a word about this to the media. The fact that they came out of there and called Russert and gave him the exclusive means that these people are just… Well, do you know what a pole dancer is? Have you ever watched the Sopranos? These guys are poll dancers: P-O-L-L. They have demeaned themselves for polls. They\u2019re scared to death about their own re-elections.<\/p>\n

They think they have to go up and have a meeting with Bush, tell him what for, and then come back and tell the Drive-By Media, and they think that\u2019s going to help them with their constituents. Did they learn nothing from last November\u2019s elections? Memo to Republicans: Moderate or not, your voters don\u2019t want you to sound like Democrats. They don\u2019t want you to vote like Democrats. They don\u2019t want you to spend like Democrats. They don\u2019t want you to be arrogant like Democrats. They want you to be conservatives, and they want you to be Republicans. If you can\u2019t figure that out after what happened last November, then all is lost for you in the next November election. It\u2019s just mind-boggling to watch these guys parade up there. Folks, they couldn\u2019t have cared less about Iraq. If they did, if that was what really bugged them, we would not know of this meeting. They went up there purposely to make themselves look like tough guys — which is hard for moderates to do — and look at how they chose to do it, by beating up on Bush!<\/p>\n
