CALLER: Hey, mega dittos, Rush. Been listening since \u201993. Finally got through. You know, a long time ago you talked about having a Pontiac LeMans, and you weren\u2019t really interested in the guy who wanted to drag you. I think you missed out on one of the great American experiences by not getting into hot-rodding.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Not getting a hot rod?<\/p>\n
CALLER: Yeah. You know you had a Pontiac LeMans. You had a perfect platform to really, you know, have some fun, do some things, go cruising.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, now, wait a minute. It was my first car, 1969 Pontiac LeMans, it was one step down from a GTO, which meant it didn\u2019t have as hot an engine and it didn\u2019t have as cool a grille, the interior pretty much the same. I loved the car.<\/p>\n
CALLER: And, hey, everything there to do whatever you needed to do. All you had to do was make some upgrades. That\u2019s all you had to do.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Yeah, except I didn\u2019t have the money. It took everything I had to buy that car, and then I got a job offer and drove it to Pittsburgh. I didn\u2019t have time to hot-rod it out there. I was trying to become a star.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Now to Jay “Hot Rod” in Arlington, Washington. Seriously, I knew it was a hot car. It had a walnut shift knob with four-speed on the floor. I absolutely loved the car, but I got a job offer in Pittsburgh, and, I mean, that was my life, was doing radio. And this was the biggest event in my life, getting a job away from home, first real job. So I was not into souping up cars and, you know, and running drag races down Broadway with the local grease monkeys.<\/p>\n
CALLER: That\u2019s me, the grease monkey. And you got your dream, didn\u2019t you?<\/p>\n
RUSH: I did.<\/p>\n
CALLER: My dream was to be a hot-rodder with one of the fastest cars I could have on the street or whatever. We don\u2019t street race anymore.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Did you get that? Did you get a hot rod?<\/p>\n
CALLER: Sure. I\u2019ve had two Chevelles. I had one in high school and I got a big block Chevelle right now sitting in the barn.<\/p>\n
RUSH: You have a Chevelle that you hot-rodded?<\/p>\n
CALLER: Yeah.<\/p>\n
RUSH: No kidding. Well, how would you have made my \u201969 LeMans a hot rod? What would you have done to it?<\/p>\n
CALLER: Well, was it a V8?<\/p>\n
RUSH: Yeah.<\/p>\n
CALLER: With six cylinders?<\/p>\n
RUSH: Yes, it was.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Okay. There\u2019s headers, there\u2019s cam upgrades, there\u2019s tires and suspension. You got the best suspension they ever come out with, stock, a four link. You just have to change a few things. You could have had a ball. I\u2019ve been living my whole life around cars. We grew up in California. My dad was in the Air Force. We weren\u2019t rich, but it was all car culture. We cruised every night we could.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Let me tell you what I did do. I put the most awesome sound system in that car. I had two speakers on the backs of the front seats, two each. I could feel the bass in my back as I\u2019m driving around. I had 12 speakers in that car. It was all custom installed, and I had mag wheels on it.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Cool.<\/p>\n
RUSH: It was a beautiful navy — called lunar blue with a white vinyl top and a walnut shift knob.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Beautiful car.<\/p>\n
RUSH: And it hummed.<\/p>\n
CALLER: All I had was 12-by-9 Krotos. (laughing) A Kmart system.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Okay, look, it\u2019s giveaway iPhone day for me today. Would you like a new iPhone?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Let me tell you something. I\u2019ve been offering iPhone Xs, but I\u2019ve got iPhone 8s and 8 Pluses too. I don\u2019t know if you know the difference. The iPhone X is the hot —<\/p>\n
CALLER: The iPhone X you said is a hot rod but the 8 1\/2s you said were just as good or something?<\/p>\n
RUSH: The 8 Plus is an actually —<\/p>\n
CALLER: Yeah.<\/p>\n
RUSH: — a little wider screen. The iPhone X is all screen, but it\u2019s a little narrower, but it\u2019s just appreciably smaller, but the whole phone is screen, and it\u2019s the size of an iPhone 8. You can use it with one hand for the most part. The 8 Plus is big. They both get great battery life. The difference is that the 8 Plus does not have the front-facing 3D camera so there\u2019s no Face ID on it, but it has the same backwards camera, it\u2019s got every bit the camera that the iPhone X has. It\u2019s just a matter of personal preference which one you want. You like touch ID, the fingerprint, or you like Face ID? The iPhone X, state-of-the-art. It\u2019s the latest. It\u2019s the latest tech. It\u2019s very, very cool, but if you\u2019d rather stick with something more comfortable, I have that too.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Well, let\u2019s do the X, being as you\u2019re being so generous.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Okay. And who is your carrier?<\/p>\n
CALLER: Verizon.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Excellent. Fine. You\u2019re gonna get —<\/p>\n
