RUSH: We had the Romney endorsement yesterday. On Monday morning at 9:30, Bush 41 is going to endorse McCain. So Romney endorsed McCain yesterday, and on Monday George H. W. Bush is going to. That\u2019s going to really put pressure on the Huckster. ‘Why are you in this now, Huckster? Why are you staying in this?\u2019 If I were Huckabee, I\u2019d say, ‘Because I am David Brooks\u2019 candidate. I was David Brooks\u2019 candidate, New York Times, five weeks ago. I know he secretly likes me. Bill Kristol and David Brooks, they\u2019re why I\u2019m staying in the race.\u2019 (interruption) Yeah, people do keep sending him money. You know where the Huckster is this weekend? The Huckster is in the Caymen Islands. You know what there is in the Caymen Islands? Offshore. Now, he\u2019s down there earning money. He has to go down there and make speeches and so forth as his campaign said. Look, it\u2019s not like he has his own pile of money. This is what he has to do to pay the mortgage. He\u2019s just one of us — uh, one of you. So on the Republican side in Texas, not that it matters, it\u2019s closer than McCain would like, 42% to 36% for Huckabee. <\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: Mitt Romney still in the gun sights, the political gun sights of Mike Huckabee. This is all about Romney endorsing McCain yesterday. Last night on the Fox News Channel with Neil Cavuto, Huckabee appeared. Cavuto said, ‘We\u2019re in this odd position today where it\u2019s Governor Romney Kumbayaing with Senator McCain, acknowledging the fact that it was a tension-filled campaign. And then your Mr. Friendly, Governor Huckabee, the odd man out, you\u2019re challenging the presumed nominee, Senator McCain. It\u2019s a little weird, isn\u2019t it?\u2019<\/p>\n

HUCKABEE: If John McCain and I end up standing on the stage together to congratulate one or the other, neither of us will have to put in an Oscar winning performance or take acting lessons before we go up on that stage. I won\u2019t have to fake it at all. Senator McCain knows I have nothing but the highest respect for him. I think he does for me. Our relationship has been cordial. I don\u2019t have to go behind the scenes apologize or hope nothing gets brought up that\u2019s been said in the past.<\/p>\n

RUSH: He\u2019s attacking Romney, acting lessons, has to fake it when he says ‘neither I nor McCain will have to put in an Oscar-winning performance or take acting lessons before we go up on that stage. I won\u2019t have to fake it at all.\u2019 Romney\u2019s gone. The Huckster is still attacking Romney, claiming to be best buds with Senator McCain. I will guarantee you on the Straight Talk Express, Senator McCain is looking at his campaign aides, (doing McCain impression) ‘What are we going to do about Huckabee? He thinks we\u2019re still partners. It\u2019s time to throw him under this bus, and he doesn\u2019t get it. Well, he will get it, if he doesn\u2019t understand, we\u2019ll make him understand. I\u2019m not going to put up with this. I am the nominee. It\u2019s mine! It\u2019s mine! Keep him in the Caymans! I don\u2019t care if the bus has to go down to the Caymans to run over him, it\u2019s going to happen. You got me?\u2019 ‘Yes, sir, yes, sir, oh, absolutely.\u2019 ‘If I have to, I\u2019ll take it all the way to the Supreme Court like I did comprehensive campaign finance reform.\u2019 <\/p>\n

CALLER: Does the conservative base have enough influence to, shall we say, inspire Senator McCain to govern conservatively?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Does the conservative base have that kind of power over Senator McCain?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Or that kind of power within the Republican Party that we can keep him in control?<\/p>\n

RUSH: See, that\u2019s the rub. I don\u2019t think so. I don\u2019t think that\u2019s his personality. I mean, look, let me try put this in perspective for you. This is John McCain. Reputation is of a man of honor, character, integrity, prisoner of war, survived multiple years of torture. I don\u2019t think McCain — and, by the way, I admire him in this. I don\u2019t think McCain is a weak-spirited guy who needs a bunch of advisors about what he believes. I think his advisors have to toe his line. I, frankly, got so worn out of having presidents and people thinking that their advisors — like Karl Rove. Karl Rove, mad scientist genius, was George Bush\u2019s brain. Nothing could be further from the truth. George Bush is committed to what he\u2019s going to do, and he\u2019s going to do it come hell or high water. There isn\u2019t anybody that is going to talk him out of it because he believes passionately in what he believes or he wants to get done what he wants to get done. I think McCain is even more so. I think McCain is committed, he\u2019s 70 years old. He doesn\u2019t run around thinking he\u2019s got something to learn. He thinks we all have something to learn. (doing McCain impression) ‘That\u2019s right, Limbaugh, you\u2019re getting it. You do have something to learn. I am the guy to teach you.
