MICHELLE OBAMA: They threw in the obvious ultimate fear bomb that we\u2019re even hearing now, they said his name. They said, look out for his name. When all else fails, be afraid of his name and what that could stand for because it\u2019s different.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I still say that they\u2019re making too big a deal out of this. They\u2019re acting awfully defensive about this. His name is his name. (interruption) Yes, Mr. Snerdley? She didn\u2019t say the name. The name is the fear bomb. (interruption) She\u2019s not allowed to do what? Well, apparently not, but I think nobody\u2019s supposed to say the name. Pretty soon this guy Obama\u2019s going to be the man whose name cannot be mentioned, period, either Obama or Barack, much less Hussein. Don\u2019t tell anybody I said that. Just between you and us, folks, you and me, we whispered. Nobody could hear it. Michelle Obama is not finished. She\u2019s really on a roll. Byron York, National Review Online today. Basically Michelle Obama, let\u2019s see, Zanesville, Ohio, met with a group of women at a local day care center. Now, Byron York did some research here. According to the US census, the county, Muskingum County where Zanesville is, had a median household income of $37,192 in 2004. That\u2019s below both the Ohio and national averages. Just 12.2% of adults in the county have a bachelor\u2019s degree or higher. Also well below the state and national averages, about 20% of this county do not have a haskrool degree.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Michelle Obama urged them to forswear lucrative professions like corporate law or hedge fund management and go into the helping industry. She ‘complains about the lasting burden of student loans dating from her days at Princeton and Harvard Law School. She talks about people who end up taking years and years, until middle age, to pay off their debts. ‘The salaries don\u2019t keep up with the cost of paying off the debt, so you\u2019re in your 40s, still paying off your debt at a time when you have to save for your kids,\u2019 she says. ‘Barack and I were in that position,\u2019 she continues. ‘The only reason we\u2019re not in that position is that Barack wrote two best-selling books… It was like Jack and his magic beans. But up until a few years ago, we were struggling to figure out how we would save for our kids. We left corporate America, which is a lot of what we\u2019re asking young people to do,\u2019 she tells the women. ‘Don\u2019t go into corporate America. You know, become teachers. Work for the community. Be social workers. Be a nurse. Those are the careers that we need, and we\u2019re encouraging our young people to do that. But if you make that choice, as we did, to move out of the money-making industry into the helping industry, then your salaries respond.”<\/p>\n

Yeah. They plummet. They plummet. ‘Faced with that reality, she adds, ‘many of our bright stars are going into corporate law or hedge-fund management.\u2019 What she doesn\u2019t mention is that the helping industry has treated her pretty well. In 2006, the Chicago Tribune reported that Mrs. Obama\u2019s compensation at the University of Chicago Hospital, where she is a vice president for community affairs, jumped from $121,910 in 2004, just before her husband was elected to the Senate, to $316,962 in 2005, just after he took office. And that does not count the money Mrs. Obama receives from serving on corporate boards. She would have been okay even without Jack\u2019s magic beans.\u2019 So again, here you have two people that are trying to pass themselves off as something that they are not, and that is in financial straits and encouraging people not to incur the financial straits they did. ‘Don\u2019t even earn a lot of money, because if you don\u2019t go to college you don\u2019t have the student loans, you don\u2019t have a lot of debt. Just go out there and help people. Just go out there and help.\u2019<\/p>\n

Now, you might say, ‘Rush, I mean this is not all that bad, it\u2019s not a bad idea she went–‘ Well, this is not the American dream. She\u2019s telling \u2019em don\u2019t do what you want to do, do what we think you should do. Don\u2019t find your own dreams. Don\u2019t find your own avocation and vocation. Don\u2019t find your own passion. Let us, Barack and me, tell you what you should do. Let us help you avoid the pain that we have experienced. Of course, the pain that they have experienced has led him to becoming the first historic black candidate for president of the United States.<\/p>\n
