You’re next in the EIB Network, sir. Hello.

CALLER: Yes.

RUSH: Yeah. Hi, Tony. Are you there?

CALLER: Yes. Rush, nice to talk to you. I just wanted to make a point, Rush, on something you said a looong time ago. Way before any of the candidates were even running, where it was being whispered that Hillary was going to run, you said not to worry. You told us not to worry. You said that people would come out in droves to vote against her, and I kind of think that’s what’s happening right now.

RUSH: Yeah, but I didn’t expect it to be Democrats coming out to vote. I thought that would be in the general.

CALLER: Yeah, nobody did, nobody knew that Democrats were going to come out this strong against Hillary — and I think that a big part of them voting for Obama are really voting against Hillary.

RUSH: Well, I think there are a lot of factors, and that clearly is one.

CALLER: Yeah.

RUSH: The Clintons, they’ve been laboring under — I guess, I think they’ve been laboring under — all kinds of misconceptions. One of them is that the country loves them and is desperate to have them back. The second one is the Democrats really, really love ’em and really want ’em back. The third is that the country really, really loves Bill and wants him back. And the fourth thing is that the Democrat Party really, really, really loves Bill and wants him back. And they thought that this was just going to be a cakewalk. It’s obvious that they did, because they weren’t prepared for anything after Super Tuesday, didn’t have any organization on the ground in any of these states; they had to ramp that up on the fly. She’s an unlikable person, or personality, and the Drive-Bys did do stories on that. The Drive-Bys, you remember back a year, year and a half ago? The Drive-Bys were doing all these stories about how they were trying to advise her on how to get nicer and how to change her image.

That’s what it was about back then. Yeah, she did a likability tour. She was doing a likability tour out there. (sigh) Just all of it’s been too little, too late, and none of it’s been consistent. I have so many guys on the golf course yesterday tell me, ‘I don’t see how Hillary is still in the race. Did you see her whining and moaning in the debate on Tuesday, how come she’s always asked the first question? Wah, wah, wah. ‘Why?” I said, ‘You guys are misunderstanding that. That was done on purpose. That’s an appeal to women. Hillary’s trying to make women think that she’s being bullied by everybody else in this race, from Russert, to Brian Williams, to Obama. That’s what that was about.’ Yeah, it didn’t work. You know, it did come across as childish and immature. But it tells you what Hillary thinks of women. It worked once up there in New Hampshire. The Democrats are famous. Playbook is only so long. They have to keep recycling all the plays, recycling all the pages.

Jenna in Gulfport, Mississippi. Hi, and welcome to the program.

CALLER: (silence)

RUSH: Jenna, are you there?

CALLER: Yeah, I’m here.

RUSH: All right, welcome. Nice to have you here. Are we having a problem with our phone system in there today? Yeah, okay. Jenna, I’m sorry about that. Apparently, we got a phone problem.

CALLER: That’s okay. I can hear you.

RUSH: Yeah, but I couldn’t hear you.

CALLER: Uh-oh.

RUSH: And when you weren’t there, it made me look like an idiot, which makes me want to get mad at Snerdley for making me look like an idiot. It wasn’t you that made me look like an idiot because you didn’t hear me, either. It was probably Brian’s fault when we get down to the end of the day. But what was it, Jenna, that you called about?

CALLER: Well, I was a little distressed over the weekend when I saw that you were pushing the — not that you were telling anyone to do but suggesting perhaps that we try to keep Hillary Clinton in the race, and it just disturbs me to think that she would even have a chance of getting the Democratic nomination. I just can’t stand the thought of it. I think it’s dangerous.

RUSH: I know, there are a lot of people out there, because these Clintons are like cockroaches, you know. They’re the last thing standing after a nuclear blast. Nothing gets rid of them.

CALLER: (laughter)

RUSH: No, no. People have that innate fear. Wouldn’t you love to cream Hillary, though?

CALLER: I would love it to be done in the primaries.

RUSH: Yeah, I know. You want it done as soon as possible.

CALLER: Well, but the reason being, if she were to secure the nomination, I wouldn’t put it past the dirty dealings of the Clintons for her to wrangle her way into the White House, which is just unthinkable.

RUSH: Well, why are you so afraid of her? Look at how ineptly she’s campaigning against Obama. Why is Obama running rings around her?

CALLER: Well, she —

RUSH: By the way, why is Obama ‘thinkable’? Jenna, hang on here. I don’t mean to call you ‘you people.’ Chalk it up to being sick.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Back to Jenna in Gulfport, Mississippi. You have called to chide me about trying to keep Hillary Clinton alive, right?

CALLER: Not so much chide you. It just makes me nervous. (laughter)

RUSH: Well, do you understand why I’m doing this?

CALLER: Yes, sir, I do, and —

RUSH: I want you to tell me. I want to make sure that you have understood, that you’ve heard what I said and you get it.

CALLER: Yes. You would like this to happen to continue the squabbling between the Democrats themselves. Let them tear each other apart rather than leave it on McCain, who we aren’t certain that he has the guts to take on Obama.

RUSH: It’s not a question of guts.

CALLER: Right, not guts, but fortitude.

RUSH: I just think the Republican Party, as a general rule, is not going to be ripping into Obama for all of the usual defensive and fear-based reasons.

CALLER: Politically correct reasons.

RUSH: Oh, yeah, and more. But don’t forget there’s another part of my — you know, another method here to my so-called madness. I do want to beat these people. I do want to win. If Obama were to wrap this up early, what is so — you know, Hillary is so ‘unthinkable,’ I think you used the word, right?

CALLER: Ugh. Yes.

RUSH: What is so thinkable about Obama?

CALLER: There is nothing palatable about socialism, nothing at all.

RUSH: Well?

CALLER: (giggles) But —

RUSH: Let me tell you something: We’ve got a head start beating Hillary because half the country already hates her. I don’t think we’re going to be able to gin up those kinds of negative numbers on Obama.

CALLER: Well, that’s a good point.

RUSH: A lot of people think Obama would be unbeatable.

CALLER: I’ve heard that, too.

RUSH: I am not one of them, by the way. I don’t buy into all this conventional wisdom that comes out ten months, nine months before an election. There are too many factors that we don’t know, things that are going to happen both events news-wise, things in a campaign and so forth, but I think Hillary, we’ve seen a dry run here. We’ve seen a blue plan on how to wipe her out. Obama’s done it! The thing that’s going to change is if she were to be the nominee, the press will fall in love with her again. Right now, they’re giving her a little dusting up. But you have to understand and everybody’s going to have to understand: Once the Democrats have a nominee — and I don’t care how bad the fight is, I don’t care how long it takes; once they have a nominee — our nominee is going to be trashed, despised, ripped to shreds by the Drive-By Media. You can make book on that. I don’t care who the nominee is, it will happen. Make no mistake. Jenna, thanks for the call. I appreciate it.

This is Debra in Houston. Debra, you’re next on the EIB Network. Hello.

CALLER: Hi, Rush. How are you?

RUSH: Fine. Thank you.

CALLER: I just wanted to let you know that, first off, you’re my husband’s nemesis.

RUSH: Uhhhh.

CALLER: Yes.

RUSH: Husband’s nemesis.

CALLER: Yes, sir. I would trade a lifetime of grief dished out by him to spend one three-hour evening smoking cigars and talking with you, in the more cerebral pursuits.

RUSH: Oh, sheesh. Wow.

CALLER: I want to tell you I’m a Texas voter. I voted in the Texas primaries last Thursday. I tried to get in touch with you over the last three weeks, but we’ve been really busy at work, and just haven’t been able to listen to you. And I had the theory, and I wanted to bounce it off of you — and Friday night, my theory was confirmed when I listened to Laura Ingraham on O’Reilly. I found out… I went and voted in the primaries for Hillary Clinton, which absolutely, Rush, it was…

RUSH: I can imagine.

CALLER: It was scary.

RUSH: It would be like Ronald Reagan voting for Gorbachev. I understand this.

CALLER: I was blown away.

RUSH: It’s a very courageous thing that you did.

CALLER: And, Rush, what really just tickled the tar out of me is that I knew to do this, this was my strategery; and my husband kept telling me, ‘Ah, you’re crazy. You’re crazy. Don’t waste it. Don’t do that.’ But I can’t vote for McCain in the primary. I’ll vote in the general for McCain, but I just can’t vote in the primary for him, and so I voted for Hill-Bill Clinton, and I just wanted to let you know that.

RUSH: So you took my advice, Debra, and you pimped yourself for your vote.

CALLER: I pimped myself, Rush, but I didn’t take your advice because I did it before you came out on Friday night and told us.

RUSH: Oh, oh. You did it Thursday before you heard?

CALLER: That’s right.

RUSH: Wait a second. Wait a second. Wait a second here, Debra. I may be sick, but the mind is not totally cloudy.

CALLER: (laughing)

RUSH: I’ve been on this strategery for a week and a half.

CALLER: Well, Rush, I haven’t been able to listen to you —

RUSH: Oh! Oh, oh, oh.

CALLER: — because of stuff at work and it was just a theory.

RUSH: How convenient.

CALLER: You know, I just kept bouncing it off people, and they kept telling me I was crazy. And then Friday night I rejoiced, because Maha Rushie told me exactly what I should have done and I did it without even being asked.

RUSH: Well, you know your instincts, trust ’em.

CALLER: Yes, sir. Well, it’s all these years —

RUSH: Trust ’em.

CALLER: — of education.

RUSH: Trust your instincts. You’re very kind. I’m glad you called. Thank you very much.

CALLER: Thank you, Rush.

RUSH: By the way, Debra, do you spell your name D-e-b-r-a, or is there an O and an H in there?

CALLER: B-r-a.

RUSH: B-r-a.

CALLER: Yes, sir. D-e-b-r-a.

RUSH: D-e-b-r-a. (applauding) Congratulations, Snerdley. You got somebody’s name right today.

CALLER: (giggles)

RUSH: Okay, Debra. I can’t laugh. Have a good one, okay?

CALLER: Thank you, Rush. Bye-bye.

RUSH: Dorothy in Sandusky, Ohio, nice to have you on the EIB Network.

CALLER: Hi, Rush!

RUSH: Hey!

CALLER: Mega dittos to you.

RUSH: Thank you.

CALLER: We’ve been longtime listeners. Sorry you’re under the weather. Hope you feel better real soon.

RUSH: So do I.

CALLER: Oh! I just want to let you know that my husband and I are registered Republicans, but tomorrow we’re going to go over there and become Democrats for one day and vote for Hillary.

RUSH: Now, are there any conservative Republicans down on the ballot tomorrow that you might want to vote for?

CALLER: Uhhhh. Not that I think of right off the top of my head. We’re going to, you know, go ahead with McCain. He’s not our favorite idea, but the idea of either Hillary or Barack being president just makes my teeth curl. I couldn’t stand the thought of having either one of them in office, so I hope this works out. I agree that… I think a lot of Obama’s votes are really votes against Hillary more than they are for him. So I hope that proves to be the case in the election.

RUSH: Why do you think that? You’re the second caller today that’s said that. What is it about Democrats that don’t like Hillary?

CALLER: I really don’t know. Being a Republican, I don’t know why anybody ever liked Hillary or Bill.

RUSH: No, but you’ve got Obama. I mean, I can give you reasons why Obama’s followers are followers. I can tell you, it doesn’t have a thing to do with what he believes. It doesn’t have a thing to do with what his policies are. I can list ’em. He speaks well.

CALLER: Yeah.

RUSH: He’s mesmerizing, he’s charismatic, and he’s making people think they don’t have to do anything for themselves in the future, he’s going to do it for him.

CALLER: Yep.

RUSH: Obama represents everything they want for themselves, and he’s going to comfort them. Hillary can’t pull any of that off. I think people might be making a mistake here. I’m sure there’s some anti-Hillary vote in the Democrat Party, but I think the people that are voting for Obama right now are doing so with a pretty strong emotional attachment to him.

CALLER: Yeah. I do, too, and I think they’re very far off base. I think he would be an absolute disaster because I think he’s probably not stupid, but he has said a lot of dumb things in his speeches, and promises and so on.

RUSH: He’s not stupid. He’s not stupid, but he is inexperienced. But he’s a liberal and that’s all any of us need to know.

CALLER: Oh, yeah!

RUSH: You know what? Obama’s out there saying that he’s going to get some Republicans to put in his cabinet. You say, ‘Well, now, that’s interesting. Who’s he talking about?’ Chuck Hagel. He is going to get Chuck Hagel, one of McCain’s best buddies and put him in as secretary of defense or some such thing. Now, Hagel’s a Republican, but do you see what this is about? This is about blunting McCain’s appeal to the moderates and so forth and so on, which (sigh). I don’t know if it’s going to have any impact this far out the election just mentioning this because we don’t know what Obama will really do. But going out there and naming these kinds of Republicans? (laughs) Frankly, we’d be happy to get rid of them!

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Phil in Reston, Virginia, it’s nice to have you on the EIB Network. Hello.

CALLER: Hi, Rush.

RUSH: Hi.

CALLER: Yada dittos.

RUSH: Thank you, sir.

CALLER: Um, I’m among those who take exception to the concept that Republicans should vote in the primaries for either of the Democratic Party presidential candidates.

RUSH: Okay.

CALLER: I think in a way it’s almost insulting our principles, because they’re being told to abandon them and vote for candidates and a party that they don’t support, just so they can prop up the Republican and the Republican Party that many of them really are not happy with. So, instead of just simply objecting, I wanted to suggest to you and the Texans and Ohioans perhaps a more significant voting strategy; and that would be to write in the best conservative candidate they could think of, and it wouldn’t even need to be someone who’s in the running, but just someone who they believe in as a conservative. There’s one name I would suggest, and actually he’s a Democrat, but he’s more conservative and that would be Zell Miller. My reason for suggesting him would be because, number one: He spoke at the Republican convention during George Bush’s nomination and, really, basically separated from his party. He is regarded as a conservative.

RUSH: They drummed him out of the party. He didn’t separate. They threw him out. They don’t have ‘mavericks’ in the Democrat Party.

CALLER: Right. So my point in doing this would be to basically send a message to the Republican Party, and especially to the liberal faction, by saying, ‘We’re so behind our principles, so supportive of our principles that we’re willing to go to someone else from another party.’

RUSH: You know, it’s an intriguing thought. I just think at this stage of the game, I don’t think the Republican hierarchy and the McCain campaign really care that much about conservative principles. But it’s a good idea.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Phil in Reston, Virginia, had an interesting idea. He said the strategery of mine is causing Republicans to vote against their own principles by going in there and voting for Hillary in order to sustain a Democrat race, that what they should do instead is write in a Democrat like Zell Miller or some conservative on the Republican side to send a message to the Republicans. McCain campaign and the RNC were dissatisfied. I think they know that, and I don’t think they care. But it’s an interesting idea. I’m sensitive to the fact that some of you may be violating your principles to do this, if indeed you are, or if you are thinking about it. However, let me explain the strategery to you, ladies and gentlemen, and preface it by saying that either one of these two, Obama or Hillary, are unacceptable. They need to be beaten. I don’t have confidence our side is going to do what it takes to beat them. I’m not confident. I would love to be wrong, and I hope that I see signs, but I see the Democrats as warriors, and I see them in this, the way people are in blood sports. They want to wipe us out, talking politically now. There’s nothing wrong with that, by the way. I think that should be the objective.

If you have things you really believe, I don’t care how wrong they are, and you don’t want people standing in your way, then fine, get rid of your enemy. That’s what they are trying to do, and they have succeeded. Look at the people they’ve gone after: Robert Bork, Clarence Thomas, Alberto Gonzales, any number of judicial nominees. The list is so long, you don’t need me to remind you of what it is. I think this is war. This is political war. This is not Civics 101; it’s not Good Government 101 that you learn when you’re a freshman in high school or college. This is for keeps. It’s about the future of the country. We have two completely different views of how this country ought to be. On our side, we believe in the traditions and institutions that made the country great, and want to keep it great and have it become even greater. The other side, you’ve got people that don’t like the way the country is. They don’t like entrepreneurial capitalism. They don’t like liberty. They don’t like people having a lot of say-so and freedom. If that sounds outrageous to you, I’ll again just call your attention to all the lunacy on the left about changing out lightbulbs and doing all these other crazy things, the way you can and can’t use your property in order to protect a snail darter or kangaroo rat or what have you.

We don’t look at that. We have faith in people, we have hope, we have a trust that the American people, if left alone, certainly are competent and have the ambition and the desire necessary to achieve their dreams. And we want to encourage people to have dreams. The Democrats want to kill dreams. The Democrats and the Drive-By Media, the liberals, everything they say is fatalistic, it’s filled with doom and gloom. They’re trying to destroy anybody. It’s a joke for Obama to be running around talking about hope. He’s offering none. Listen to the way they talk about the country. Now, the point is, they have to be defeated. I want our side to win, even though we’ve got a candidate that wouldn’t be my first choice, but I do want our side to win. I’m not sure our side is going to play to win. I don’t know how many warriors we have on our side. So if our political enemy — in this case the Democrat Party — is in the midst of all of this chaos and turmoil, and if Mrs. Clinton and Senator Obama are in the process of ripping each other to shreds, we need to help that along.

Now, I sound like a broken record here, but Mrs. Clinton, should she get the nomination, already half the country hates her. She’s got the highest disapproval numbers, the highest negatives of anybody that’s ever run for office. Obama doesn’t have that. Somebody’s going to have to bloody Obama up. Our side is not going to do it. Mrs. Clinton is in the process of trying, as are the people in the Clinton campaign and the Obama people are throwing the mud back. I just think this ought to continue because ultimately it is about our principles. It is about our view, the greatness of the country, triumphing, or as close to it as we can get, and certainly Obama and Hillary are not anywhere near close to what we think the greatness of the country is. Just listen to the things that they say they’re going to do. I just as soon take ’em at their word. Why risk that they’re just teasing? So that is the reason behind my strategery of suggesting that we do what’s necessary to keep the turmoil and chaos in the Democrat Party ongoing. Plus, it will be fun. If they get down to a brokered convention — and it looks like that’s possible, it looks like it’s more possible than not — if they get down to a brokered convention, why — by the way, McCain’s out of money. He doesn’t have much money until September comes around, if the FEC rules, as a lot of people think that they will. So I’m not urging people to check principles at the door when you go into these primaries in Ohio or Texas. Actually quite the contrary.
