RUSH: This is Scott in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Thank you for waiting, sir. Welcome to the program.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hi, Rush. I just cannot believe that I\u2019m actually talking to you.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, I\u2019m glad you got through, sir.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I have only really a slight disagreement with you on public education.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, if it\u2019s slight, it\u2019s not worth mentioning then, is it?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well —<\/p>\n

RUSH: (laughing)<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay, I\u2019m just going to do my best here. Okay, my wife has worked as a charter school teacher for 11 years now.<\/p>\n

RUSH: What is a charter school? How would you define a charter school to me?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, man, a charter school is a school that can be started by a private group but it can receive public funding, the per-child allocation.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Anybody can go to the school —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: — as one of the schools of choice kind of thing. The charter school cannot issue bonds.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Basically, it\u2019s a government school that people don\u2019t think of as a public school?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Exactly.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: In fact, they changed the name of the school to have ‘public\u2019 in the name because people didn\u2019t even realize that they could bring their kids there for free. Seriously.<\/p>\n

RUSH: For free. Ha! See, this is one of the problems.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes. Free doesn\u2019t take for, they just should say ‘free.\u2019 But, you know what I\u2019m saying, public schools, the whole system is a disaster in the same way that a socialized medical care system would be an utter disaster. All you have to do is look at the public education system in this country and say, ‘Do I want my medical care system to look like that?\u2019 to know if you want Hillary Care or Obama care, but the schools, the per-child allocation isn\u2019t really a huge amount for what they\u2019re being asked to do, and I can only speak for Michigan, the per-child allocation is something like a little over five grand, but if you were to have a private education for your child, and I\u2019m not talking about they serve caviar and sparkling grape juice at lunch kind of thing —<\/p>\n

RUSH: But we could do that with what we are currently spending in New Jersey. You could give every kid a limousine to take him to-and-from school, you could take him over to \u201921\u2019 for lunch with caviar, bring \u2019em back to school and have money left over, and you could go out and hire the most expensive professor from MIT.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, that is absolutely insane. They\u2019re throwing money away, then.<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s the whole point. I realize a lot of people are going to call me like you and say, ‘Rush, we\u2019re outta money in these schools.\u2019 We\u2019re not outta money. We got idiots allocating it, and it\u2019s going to the wrong places, to the wrong people. The classroom is not the focus.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I agree with you, I agree with you —<\/p>\n

RUSH: I stand corrected. Twenty grand a pupil in New Jersey. Twenty thousand dollars. Maybe only five where you are. Twenty thousand dollars in New Jersey.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, New Jersey, isn\u2019t that something like Taxachusetts or something like that? I don\u2019t know how they can afford to do that, but we\u2019re talking about —<\/p>\n

RUSH: They can\u2019t! Have you looked at our deficit? Have you looked at the New Jersey state deficit or the New York state deficit? They can\u2019t afford it. This is what\u2019s outrageous. We are being taxed and taxed and taxed in ways people don\u2019t even know and then a trillion-dollar budget is announced and the Democrats say, ‘It\u2019s got too many cuts in it, Draconian cuts.\u2019<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, it\u2019s insane, it\u2019s insane. Ultimately, not to quote Reverend Wright, but the chickens ultimately sometimes have to come home to roost, and they will at some point, unless, like you say, we could grow our way out of it, but we\u2019re not going to grow our way out of it with all this liberal idiocy that\u2019s going on.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You were quoting Malcolm X.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Reverend Wright just plagiarized Malcolm X.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay, okay, I learn something new every day, been listening to you since \u201992, so there you go.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Scott, thanks so much for the call.<\/p>\n

CALLER: All right, thank you.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I appreciate it. I know a lot of you people are going to tell me that your local school district is in big pain, that they\u2019re having to close classes or whatever, this and that and the other thing. Find out what size yacht the janitors in your school district have if you live in New York, for example.<\/p>\n

CALLER: You know, a few years ago when you were going through your struggles in life, I was going through struggles myself, and I turned my act around and now I\u2019m a small business owner, and thriving unbelievably, even though my business is dependent on the price of gasoline.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Why? What kind of business are you in? <\/p>\n

CALLER: Mobile pet grooming, Rush.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Mobile pet grooming.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes.<\/p>\n

RUSH: All pets, like cats and dogs?<\/p>\n

CALLER: I don\u2019t do cats. My wife does. I do the dogs. More specifically, I do the big dogs.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Big dogs. Okay. Well, congratulations. You\u2019re obviously following a passion, you like grooming animals.<\/p>\n

CALLER: No, I don\u2019t like grooming animals. I like animals, but I like making money.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, okay then, we\u2019re close.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Now, I\u2019m calling you because I disagree with your side of the Subway story.<\/p>\n

RUSH: What was my side of the Subway story?<\/p>\n

CALLER: You were frustrated that Subway was giving money to the public schools even though public schools have too much money as it is.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well —<\/p>\n

CALLER: I believe, Rush — I don\u2019t care how much money they\u2019re getting, I don\u2019t care where they\u2019re spending it, I think that to see a small group of people like the homeschooling crowd tell a company what they\u2019re supposed to be doing with their money is un-American. I think that Subway is basically being bullied by a special interest group.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, bullied by a special interest group.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, they were forced to apologize.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I love this. (laughing) Well, you may have a point here in a theoretical sense. The homeschooling crowd is very, very much discriminated against.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I mean, Rush, you know what, I still think Subway should be able to give their money to whoever they want.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I do, too. My only point is that Subway gives the money away for whatever reason they want to, it\u2019s probably good PR, it\u2019s probably charitable in some sense, but there\u2019s probably also a component here that they have been made to believe the federal government\u2019s not funding education enough. It\u2019s more a marketing thing because they\u2019re buying physical education equipment for these schools, which, of course, is crucial to our nation\u2019s education.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Now, are you sure it\u2019s just physical education or is it for athletic departments?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Because I read the story, they\u2019re buying exercise equipment. Subway\u2019s whole plan is eat our stuff, eat healthy, and a combination of eating healthy and exercise, great old American cliche, will lead to a long life or you\u2019ll never die.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Good for Subway, they\u2019re using the government BS for their own marketing.<\/p>\n

RUSH: They are. I have no quarrel. My whole point was the idea that the federal government, the public school system is outta money and doesn\u2019t have enough money offends me. It is absurd.<\/p>\n

CALLER: All right, then you should be happy Subway is chipping in.<\/p>\n

RUSH: All right, I want to run a small test with you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes, sir.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You\u2019re a small business guy.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes, sir.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You have a pet grooming business being impacted out there by the gasoline price.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019m not complaining about gas.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yes, you were. You mentioned it so you\u2019re complaining, but —<\/p>\n

CALLER: No, Rush!<\/p>\n

RUSH: Calm down. I\u2019m trying to —<\/p>\n

CALLER: No, no, no. I want to tell you, I think it\u2019s unbelievable that somebody who is halfway around the world pulls oil out of the ground, refines it, so I can put it in my gas tank and they only charge me four dollars a gallon.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Great attitude.<\/p>\n

CALLER: That\u2019s the truth.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Run for Miss America. Now, are you married? You are married.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes, I am.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Do you have any kids?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Three boys.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Three boys. How old are they?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Fourteen, eight, and five.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, they don\u2019t have the means to do what I want to do for you. I want to give you a Father\u2019s Day present. I want to give you a sample of goodies from Allen Brothers.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, Rush, you\u2019re killing me. Oh, my God.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Will you accept it?<\/p>\n
