RUSH: I want to go back to audio sound bite number eight, the Republican National Committee ad. I want you to put yourself in a position of a Republican member of Congress running for reelection. You\u2019ve got it tough this year because the template is the Democrats are going to pick up huge majorities in both houses. Now, I know there\u2019s polling data to support that. But can I ask you to also think about something else before we play the ad? How many of you bought into the template that it\u2019s over? I mean, the Democrats are going to get at least seven seats in the Senate and maybe 20 to 40 more in the House. How many believe that? Why does anybody believe this? This is a template that\u2019s been created because winning is what Democrats do. It\u2019s the normal thing. When Democrats win, that\u2019s the essence of normalcy. When Republicans win, it\u2019s panic city! Something\u2019s wrong! But now we\u2019re back to normal. ‘Democrats are going to win everything. Everything is hunky-dory,\u2019 and nobody\u2019s challenging this, even though it\u2019s just polling data and even though nobody knows what\u2019s going to happen in these elections. <\/p>\n

The experts think they have an idea because of the polling data and the retirements, where they\u2019re coming from, which party has more seats up for reelection, more seats to save and so forth. The idea that the Democrats will just walk away with all this, this year, it\u2019s a template. It\u2019s become an action line. It\u2019s just a matter of time now waiting for it to happen. Frankly, I don\u2019t buy it. But even so, imagine you are a Republican member of Congress, and you are running for reelection, and in your district, you\u2019re at home on a break, and you\u2019re watching the TV with your family, and this ad comes on.<\/p>\n

WOMAN: Record gas prices. A climate in crisis. John McCain says solve it now with a balanced plan: Alternative energy, conservation, suspending the gas tax, and more production here at home. He\u2019s pushing his own party to face climate change. But Barack Obama? For conservation, but he just says no to lower gas taxes, no to nuclear, no to more production. No new solutions. Barack Obama: Just the party line. <\/p>\n

RUSH: All right. Now the stuff on Obama is pretty good, but here you are. You\u2019re Republican. You\u2019re running for reelection, and this ad basically says that this guy, McCain, your presidential candidate, is trying to get you to move in the right direction. That John McCain is trying to push you — you\u2019re a member of the Republican Party — to get your mind right on all this stuff. He\u2019s endorsing this. The whole notion of manmade climate change is an issue that Democrats own, and we should let them have it, and we should use it to draw a distinction between ourselves with them. <\/p>\n
