CALLER:\u00a0\u00a0Rush, great to have you.\u00a0\u00a0I\u2019ve been a student of yours for over 20 years.\u00a0\u00a0Thank you.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0\u00a0Well, thank you.\u00a0\u00a0I appreciate that very much.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0\u00a0Thank you for all you do.\u00a0\u00a0Trump should take the money that\u2019s been offered and start building this 55 miles of wall.\u00a0\u00a0While this is being built, start the plans for additional wall construction in Texas with the private landowners who want the wall.\u00a0\u00a0If Trump is challenged on a wall by private landowners in court, at least they\u2019ll be in a friendly court system. And my feelings are that Trump will get the entire wall built.\u00a0\u00a0He\u2019s the only person that could get this wall built and the best president we\u2019ve ever had.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0\u00a0Well, let me tell you.\u00a0\u00a0That… Now, there\u2019s something worth pointing out here.\u00a0\u00a0I don\u2019t think… There may be some exceptions now on the Republican side who\u2019ve seen Trump in action.\u00a0\u00a0But I don\u2019t think… Going back two years, there\u2019s not a single Republican that was on that stage — all 16 of \u2019em running for office — who would have built the wall.\u00a0\u00a0There\u2019s not a one of them right now that… If Trump were not on the scene, if Trump weren\u2019t elected, if he had been defeated, if he weren\u2019t wherever he is, there\u2019s not a single Republican that would be talking about building a wall.<\/p>\n

The debate right now would be amnesty, and by now I\u2019ll wager that if Hillary Clinton had won the White House, we would have already had our comprehensive immigration bill for amnesty for 11 to 12 million and the flow continuing. There would be no discussion of a wall whatsoever.\u00a0\u00a0If Mitt Romney ever wins, the wall project is gonna get shut down.\u00a0\u00a0If anybody from John McCain wing of the Republican Party ever wins the White House, they\u2019re gonna shut down the wall, given circumstances as they exist today.<\/p>\n

The point being there isn\u2019t another option.\u00a0\u00a0If a wall — and let\u2019s use the wall as a symbolic term for stopping illegal immigration, shoring up border security however.\u00a0\u00a0If a wall\u2019s part of it, fine and dandy.\u00a0\u00a0But my point is there isn\u2019t another Republican who\u2019s gonna spend anywhere near the amount of time or energy on this than Donald Trump.\u00a0\u00a0Nobody.\u00a0\u00a0Make sure… Ted Cruz would, but who knows if he\u2019s gonna run for president again.<\/p>\n

\"\"If he were in Trump\u2019s shoes, he probably would.\u00a0\u00a0But you couldn\u2019t fill up all five fingers on a hand naming Republicans who would follow through on something like this, and that matters.\u00a0\u00a0Okay.\u00a0\u00a0So here\u2019s George in Richmond: Take the deal, start the spending, start building the wall, and just keeping building the wall. CALLER:\u00a0\u00a0Hi there, Rush.\u00a0\u00a0So nice to speak to you for the first time.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0\u00a0Thank you.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0\u00a0Thank you.\u00a0\u00a0And I\u2019m in Visalia, California, which is Devin Nunes\u2019s district.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0\u00a0Right.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0\u00a0He\u2019s my representative.\u00a0\u00a0Anyway, I wanted to get right on what I was calling about.\u00a0\u00a0I disagree with the last caller.\u00a0\u00a0I believe that the Democrats, they\u2019re willing to fund 55 of the 64 miles of border wall, which leaves nine miles open. Trump cannot agree to just because it\u2019s not a win and he\u2019s all about winning.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0\u00a0Well, let me tackle that. You know, that is a very sensible, very sensible point out there, Peggy.\u00a0\u00a0But let me put it through a different prism.\u00a0\u00a0By the way, this 65 miles we\u2019re talking about\u2019s the Rio Grande Valley.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s in Texas.\u00a0\u00a0Well, it\u2019s part of the Rio Grande area.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s not by no means the whole border.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s a specific portion, 65, 64 miles within 55 of which would be funded here.\u00a0\u00a0But you just said it.<\/p>\n

If the Democrats are only willing to fund 55 miles right there, do you have an effective commercial against whoever the nominee is in 2020?\u00a0\u00a0“Democrats: Only willing to fund 55 miles of border for border security.\u00a0\u00a0Democrats: Unwilling to help secure the border of the United States.\u00a0\u00a0Democrat Party: Unwilling to make America safer.”\u00a0\u00a0I mean, the campaign ads are building themselves here, if you want to look at it that way.\u00a0\u00a0The question is, is it sensible to look at that way or is that, in some of your opinions, a cop-out?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hi, Rush. What an honor to speak with you. Mega dittos.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you, sir.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Bo said to get right to the point, so I will. I think that this offer or compromise that\u2019s being proposed is a complete disaster for not only the Republicans, but for the president. I also see this as a critical point in time. I think now is the time to defeat Pelosi and the Democrats. The timing is right. We need to defeat them, not to negotiate with them. I think it will be seen as weakness on the president if he does accept this. I also think it will encourage the Democrats to hold strong against the president on other issues. I just don\u2019t see this as —<\/p>\n

RUSH: So you think he ought to just go and let the government shut down again?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Absolutely. All it did was I think teach some of the American people that they\u2019re not as dependent upon the government as they thought they were. And I think it\u2019s a good thing.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay. I gotta stop you there because I\u2019m out of time. I appreciate it. Well said in such a short period of time.<\/p>\n

RUSH: There was last night at the Trump rally a new slogan introduced. And I think it is really, really relevant to where we are at this moment today. “Finish the Wall” is the slogan. And there were “Finish the Wall” banners hanging at the Trump rally in El Paso. You talk about an effective slogan, because it will remind people first that there are 600 miles of wall which was built under Bush 43 and Obama. By the way, how many people know that, do you think?<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not sure that a whole lot of people know how much border wall there is. Especially for people that tuned in for Trump during the campaign 2015, 2016, they may think that the amount of wall, that we\u2019re looking at a 2,000-plus-mile border here, not all of it suitable for wall construction, but much of it is. But we have 600 miles of wall that was built under Bush 43 and even Obama. It will also remind people that Trump has actually been building new and better walls over the past two years.<\/p>\n

All he\u2019s trying to do is fill in the gaps that the Border Patrol say need to be filled in. It\u2019s a combination of official recommendations from the Border Patrol people who are the experts here who have to nab the illegals, and Trump\u2019s overall instinctive concern that something needs to be done to shore up the border. And so last night the Drive-Bys got triggered by this slogan. All Trump has to do is put up a sign and these people lose their cookies. So we have a montage here of all kinds of media people from last night and this morning over this new slogan, “Finish the Wall.”<\/p>\n

\"\"ROBERT MOSES: \u201cFinish the Wall\u201d signs adorned the arena where the President spoke.<\/p>\n

CECILIA VEGA: The President was surrounded by these huge signs that said \u201cFinish the Wall\u201d right on both sides of him.<\/p>\n

CHRISTINE ROMANS: Some of those signs said \u201cFinish the Wall,\u201d moving the language.<\/p>\n

JOHN BERMAN: The banner reads \u201cFinish the Wall.\u201d Not build the wall, finish the wall.<\/p>\n

RICHARD GOODSTEIN: The sign behind Donald Trump, \u201cFinish the Wall.\u201d He\u2019s a fabulist. There is no wall to finish.<\/p>\n

LAWRENCE O\u2019DONNELL: The new chant for the reelection campaign, Donald Trump wants it to be \u201cFinish the Wall.”<\/p>\n

BRIAN WILLIAMS: It was impossible not to notice this, the new slogan looming over the Trump event tonight, \u201cFinish the Wall.\u201d<\/p>\n

RYAN LIZZA: The giant signs hanging from the rafters, \u201cFinish the Wall.\u201d The wall hasn\u2019t really been started, so I don\u2019t know what exactly he means.<\/p>\n

ABBY PHILLIP: The big signs up there, \u201cFinish the Wall.\u201d It\u2019s extraordinary.<\/p>\n
