You know, the Democrat convention is coming up on August 28th, and that is a Thursday. Well, the convention is that week, 25th to the 28th, but the big night is the 28th. That’s the night that Obama will accept his party’s nomination, supposedly outside of Invesco Field at Mile High in Denver — and, as you know, he has not received a bump from his trip overseas. Quite the contrary. It probably has hurt him. Now, August 28th is also the 40th anniversary of the ‘I Have a Dream’ speech by the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Is there any doubt, ladies and gentlemen, that the Democrat Party and Obama will turn that acceptance speech into not the Second Coming of JFK, but rather the Second Coming of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr? You know, the Democrats now and the Drive-Bys are doing everything they can to call McCain and Republicans racists for the ads that are being run against The Messiah, and it isn’t working.

You know, as I think about whether or not Obama is going to get a bump out of his convention, the Republican convention is going to start the next Monday. There’s not a week or two between the conventions this time. And it’s going to be fascinating; it’s going to be very interesting to see if Obama gets the traditional bump out of the Democrat convention. You go back to 2004, 1998, a number of years you’ll find that Democrats had 15- to 18-point leads over the Republican nominee at this point in the campaign, this point in the summer. And Barry doesn’t have that. Barry is either tied or a point behind, depending upon the poll that you look at. Now, what if he doesn’t get the bump? I’m going to predict to you right now he’s not going to get the bump, and I’ll tell you why. It’s because I think that the left has overdone it for too long. I hope that they continue to say that every ad McCain runs is racist. I hope they keep this up.

Because the American people are sick and tired of it. The American people no longer believe this country is racist at its core, discriminatory at its core. It can’t possibly be the case. The case cannot be made that that is America in 2008. There’s just too much eyeball evidence to the contrary. Yet they keep trying to portray this country as soup line in terms of its economics and racist in terms of its past as though all of those circumstances are alive and current today as they were 40 years ago. So if they come out and make this big acceptance speech, make this big day turned over to Martin Luther King, Jr., on civil rights and do the we-shall-overcome stuff. It ain’t going to fly. It ain’t going to fly because a majority of Americans are stick of it because that approach to racism basically says to Americans, ‘You’re guilty. You haven’t paid the price yet and you need to pay the price and we’re never going to let you forget what you did,’ when these Americans alive today did diddly-squat.

And let’s not forget the Bull Connor of the fire hose and dogs in Selma was a Democrat. Most of the big-time segregationists were. So it will be interesting to see how this pans out. I know that they are concerned in the Democrat Party over Obama’s lack of — well, his inability to now even hold a lead, much less close the deal. And here’s a post from the Huffington Post. The headline: ‘Obama: McCain’s Not running a Campaign to be Proud of.’ This little guy is whining more and more every day. Obama really is like a man-child. He’s so spoiled rotten. Things don’t go his way, and he’s gotta whine and moan and complain. ‘Barack Obama accused John McCain on Tuesday of running a campaign that [McCain] himself couldn’t take pride in. Speaking at a town hall in Youngstown, Ohio, the Illinois Democrat fielded a question about the ‘myth’ that elderly white women wouldn’t support his candidacy. From there, however, Obama pivoted into the increasingly personal and negative tone to which the general election campaign has descended.

”When John McCain gets up there and says I’d rather win an election than win a war. When he says I didn’t visit the troops when I was overseas, even though every media outlet says that’s just not true… [It suggests] you are not trying to solve problems. All you are trying to do is divide people so you can win an election. That is nothing to be proud of. Let’s have a real honest debate about policies that are going to make a difference in people’s lives.” That would be great, Obama, so accept McCain’s invitations. All these town hall meetings that you refuse to go to? McCain’s been wanting to debate the issues for a long time with you. And you haven’t done it. And, by the way, you people, Drive-Bys, could you grow up? You’re acting like a bunch of kids, too. ‘It’s so sad! It’s so sad! We could have had a revolutionary campaign on the issue with no negative ads, but now it’s all out the window.’

I have to tell you, this campaign is the most wimpish, sissified campaign in my lifetime. This is wussified. Somebody says something about somebody, ‘I denounce that,’ throw this person under the bus, throw that person under the bus. And somebody in somebody else’s campaign says something else, and the candidate — Obama, won’t do it, but — sends somebody out to denounce it. This is a bunch of wusses. It really is. To say it’s a negative campaign. All that means, all that means is that these ads that McCain is running are having an effect, and having an impact. By the way, I think if you listen to some sound bites, you can hear a little bit more energy in McCain, which might be born of a little confidence. Last night in Sturgis, South Dakota, the 68th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, this is what McCain said about The Messiah.

MCCAIN: As you may know, not long ago, a couple of hundred thousand Berliners made a lot of noise for my opponent. I’ll take the roar of 50,000 Harleys any day! (cheers) Any day, my friends!

RUSH: And they did, and they revved up those Harleys, and it was a gigantic roar. Then in Lafayette, Pennsylvania, after touring a label-making plant, McCain held a press conference, and here is a portion of what he said.

MCCAIN: We need to drill here and we need to drill now. Senator Obama continues to oppose offshore drilling. He continues to oppose the use of nuclear power.

RUSH: Step it up.

MCCAIN: These misguided policies would result in higher energy costs to American families and businesses and increased dependence on foreign oil. We’re not going to achieve energy independence by inflating our tires.

RUSH: All right. Right on, right on, right on. Now, I don’t know how much you remember of yesterday’s program, probably every bit of it, which is how good it was. Have you grasped fully what the Obama — well, hell, the whole Democrat Party’s — effort to demonize oil is? It is profound. He wants to go get oil. Listen to this. This is where Obama can be ill-advised by advisors and not be smart enough to understand the position they put him in. We can’t drill for oil; we can’t drill for oil for a host of reasons. The reason we can’t drill for oil is we wouldn’t get any new oil for seven to ten years, blah, blah, blah; we also can’t drill for oil because of environmental spills and mishaps and pollution and global warming and yada yada. Plus we gotta get off of oil.

Yet, to lower the pump price of gasoline, what does Obama want to do? He wants to go get oil from the strategic reserve, which if you do that, you’re effectively going to raise the price because you gotta replace that oil. You gotta replace it in the strategic reserve. At some point it’s going to cost more to replace it than what it cost us to put it in there, so it’s going to raise prices ultimately. But the point is, yeah, okay. We gotta get more oil from the strategic reserve, but we’re not going to drill for it. Now, wait. If more oil will affect the price of the refined product, then why the distinction between going to the strategic reserve and drilling? Well, it’s because drilling is bad, drilling is evil, drilling is we’re turning away from this. But yet, it makes no sense, logically it makes no sense. This is a war on oil. The Democrats have now demonized energy, folks. They’ve demonized energy! As though it’s immoral, almost criminal to supply ourselves with energy, not just to sustain ourselves but to grow. Here’s more from McCain in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.

MCCAIN: I’m willing to come off the campaign trail. I call on Senator Obama to call on Congress to come back into town, and come back to work. Come off their recess, come off their vacation, and address this energy challenge to America and don’t leave until we do.

RUSH: By the way, this vacation business, who was it yesterday? I read a column. It might have been an LA Times piece, I forget which. They went out and talked to Bob Shrum (who has yet to win a Democrat Party presidential campaign that he directed). It was all about whether or not a candidate should take a vacation in August. And the story said that, well, look what happened to John Kerry (who served in Vietnam, by the way; the haughty John Kerry), when he took a vacation went out there windsurfing at Nantucket and the Drive-Bys, you know, cameras caught him, and he looked like a geek. He looked like a genuine dork out there windsurfing. Who windsurfs? He went out there windsurfing, and it gave the Republicans an excellent opening. ‘Here’s John Kerry flip-flopping and changing direction as often as the wind does on his windsurf board.’ I think the point of the story was advising Obama, ‘Don’t take a vacation. There’s too much can go wrong when you’re on vacation. You can slip up and you do stupid things and so forth,’ but Obama is going to take a vacation this month. Yeah, somewhere around the 14th. Maybe a little earlier. The second week of August he’s gonna take a vacation. One more. Back to Sturgis, South Dakota, the 68th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Senator McCain said this about the current energy situation in America.

MCCAIN: Is there anybody that wants to become energy independent? Well, I’m telling you right now we’re sending $700 billion overseas, and your Congress just went on vacation for five weeks. Tell ’em to come back and get to work! Tell ’em to get at work.

RUSH: (doing McCain impression) ‘Yeah! Come back, get to work!’ But there’s that $700 billion figure again, and it bugs me. It is misleading. I understand why people are using it, but it’s as though we’re throwing it away. We get something back for that. It’s called oil! What’s the crime? Sure, I’d love to have more of our own — and with any fortitude, we’ll get there. We’re sending 700 billion overseas? We are sending some of it to Canada. We’re sending some of it to Mexico. We’re sending some of it to Nigeria; we are sending some of it to the Middle East. We’re sending some to Venezuela. But who’s sending it? That $700 billion figure being bandied about makes it sound like the US government is being blackmailed or extorted. ‘Yeah, we gotta send $700 billion to the oil sheiks, and what do we get for it?’ We get oil. It’s a deal.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Let’s see, now. Obama’s campaign is unique. Obama is a candidate unlike any other to have appeared on the American political scene. Obama is the light. Obama is the anointed one, Obama is The Messiah, Obama will unify, Obama will bring forces to the American political structure that we have never seen, right? So I’m watching DNCTV here, and I’m looking at Laura D’Andrea Tyson, and she’s on there, they’re talking about oil prices, and Laura D’Andrea Tyson, who was a high-ranking official for Clinton, is economic advisor to Barack Obama. Wow. That’s really cool. That’s really a lot of change. That’s really something unique. That’s something we’ve not seen before. Do you realize how many myths and outright lies there are in positioning and packaging the Obama campaign?

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Here’s Anna in Lewisburg, North Carolina, as we go back to the phones. Thank you for waiting and welcome to the EIB Network.

CALLER: Hi, Rush. It is truly an honor to speak with you.

RUSH: Why, thank you.

CALLER: The reason why I’m calling, I was listening to a radio show this morning in Raleigh, and they were talking about these tire gauges that the McCain campaign is putting out.

RUSH: Hm-hm.

CALLER: And all they were saying was, ‘It’s disgusting, can you believe that they would do such a thing, it’s just despicable.’

RUSH: Who was saying that?

CALLER: Brad and Britt in the morning.

RUSH: Oh, the morning show guys?

CALLER: Yes. And what I kept thinking about was, first of all, I like how you call Obama a man-child, because his skin is so thin. I mean, it’s just driving me crazy. But also, as Republicans and for me as a supporter of George Bush, for the last eight years, we have had to hear him being compared to Hitler, all these awful, horrible things. And they are beside themselves because of a tire gauge. And it just amazes me.

RUSH: That’s not why they’re beside themselves. They’re beside themselves because it’s effective, they’re beside themselves because it makes the guy they’re apparently for look like the doofus and the whiner that he is. And, by the way, you better be careful out there, Anna, you start calling Obama thin-skinned and they’re going to tell you it’s a racist comment because you call a black guy skinny and it’s racist.

CALLER: You know what, bring it on because I am not a racist and I am so sick and tired of that.

RUSH: Amen.

CALLER: It just drives me crazy.

RUSH: I think most Americans are tired of it, frankly, and I think that actually they should keep it up. I hope they do continue to focus on the racial aspect. I hope they do accuse every Republican, McCain, of being racist. I hope they do because the American people are fed up with it. The American people are fed up with the Jesse Jacksons and the race business and the extortion, they’re fed up with it. They’re fed up with being blamed for things they didn’t do. They are owed, in my opinion, the American people should be owed a debt of gratitude.

CALLER: I agree. And, you know, say what you want about George Bush, but of all the horrible things that were said about that man, I have never heard of one instance of him whining.

RUSH: He doesn’t whine about it.

CALLER: He doesn’t whine. I mean, granted, there are times that I wish he would have stuck up for himself a little more, but he is a true leader. And Obama, if he’s going to whine every single time someone has a little bit of fun, he’s never going to make it, he won’t survive.

RUSH: Well, I don’t think Obama does have much fun. He hasn’t hung around people who enjoy life. He hangs around people that are enraged and angry and ticked off all the time, from his college professors on down to the terrorist buddies, the radical preachers, and all this. I also think he takes himself so seriously that none of this is funny. For this to be funny he would have to be funny in the sense of being laughed at. You don’t laugh at messiahs, you don’t criticize messiahs. You just don’t. Anyway, Anna, thanks for the call. Appreciate it.

RUSH: Question, ladies and gentlemen. You know, the Democrat convention is coming up on August 28th, and that is a Thursday.
