CALLER: Oh, hi, Rush. It\u2019s such an honor to speak to the Last Man Standing.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you very much. I am no longer, by the way, the Last Man Standing. That is General Colin Powell. I have resigned as titular head of the Republican Party.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay. Anyway, my question is, do you think that the rank-and-file Democrats really want to nationalize, like Obama does, all of the private sector?<\/p>\n

RUSH: The answer to this question is crucial, and we don\u2019t have it yet. I was talking about this with someone this morning before today\u2019s broadcast began, Tina, and it really is a good question. I\u2019m of the mind that a lot of rank-and-file Democrats think he\u2019s not. But I don\u2019t know. He\u2019s got a cult following, and we see the polls that people disagree with his policies but love him. Now, let\u2019s look at what happened yesterday with the EPA and the mileage standards. Folks, if we wanted to — this might be a good project — go back to our archives from 1997 on and get a bunch of audio of me warning you what\u2019s headed down the pike regarding SUVs, that they\u2019re going to put us, I would say in lawn mowers with a couple of seats on them. This is their objective, 2007, 12 years ago. It happened yesterday. It happened. I was right. Many people thought I was overboard, alarmist, exaggerating. It\u2019s happened. <\/p>\n

Now here\u2019s the interesting thing. These new little putt-putts — Oh, I got a note from somebody at the Putt-Putt company, which is franchised miniature golf: ‘Could you please not besmirch us by calling Obama cars putt-putts?\u2019 I just remembered that. Okay, so these little lawn mowers with two seats on them. Even USA Today, of all places, has a story on how much less safe on the highway all of us are going to be, how highway deaths are going to increase because everybody\u2019s going to be at greater risk in these smaller little lawn mowers with two seats on them. Now, guess what? You\u2019re being required to buy one does not start until Obama\u2019s last year in office, 2016. Even if rank-and-file Democrats end up hating this, he\u2019s gone, unless he manages to shred the Twenty-Second Amendment and run for a third term. That\u2019s a good question. <\/p>\n

The answer to that question, do rank-and-file Democrats really want the government owning car companies? I got a story here today, the unions don\u2019t want to run \u2019em, the unions don\u2019t want to run the car companies. I can\u2019t answer it. They voted for this and we tried to tell \u2019em this is exactly who he was but nobody believed it on the Democrat side, and even some of our own Republicans still don\u2019t believe it. So it\u2019s going to be a while before we know the answer to the question. I can\u2019t tell you now. Wish I could.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
