RUSH: President Obama just finished a brief joint appearance and miniature press conference with the Republic of Korea, South Korean, leader Lee Myung-bak. And during the press conference Obama had this to say about Iran.<\/p>\n

OBAMA: You\u2019ve seen in Iran some initial reaction from the supreme leader that, uh, indicates, uh, he understands the Iranian people have deep concerns about the election. Uh, it\u2019s not productive given the history of US-Iranian relations to be seen as meddling —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Whoa! <\/p>\n

OBAMA: — the US president meddling in Iranian elections.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Whoa!<\/p>\n

OBAMA: What I will repeat and what I said yesterday is that when I see violence directed at peaceful protesters, when I see peaceful dissent be suppressed, wherever that takes place, it is of concern to me and it\u2019s of concern to the American people.<\/p>\n

RUSH: He says, ‘It\u2019s not productive given the history of US-Iranian relations to be seen as meddling, the US president meddling in Iranian elections\u2019? What did he do last Friday when the exit poll data showed that the challenger was going to win? He went out there and started claiming credit for it because of his Cairo speech! He was meddling even then, claiming credit for this massive result. Remember, we have this exclusive statement to the world from President Obama sent to us by the White House this morning. <\/p>\n

(playing of Message to the World spoof) <\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s President Obama and his address to the world via EIB, but yet in his press conference this morning he said this.<\/p>\n

OBAMA: My hope is is that the Iranian people will make the right steps in order for them, uh, to be able to express their voices, express their aspirations. I do believe that something happened in Iran where there is a questioning of the kinds of antagonistic postures towards the international community that have taken place in the past and that —<\/p>\n

RUSH: What?<\/p>\n

OBAMA: — there are people who want to see greater — <\/p>\n

RUSH: What?<\/p>\n

OBAMA: — openness — <\/p>\n

RUSH: What?<\/p>\n

OBAMA: — and greater debate, uh, and want to see greater democracy. <\/p>\n

RUSH: Whoa!<\/p>\n

OBAMA: How that plays out over the next several days and several weeks is something ultimately for the Iranian people to decide, but I s-stand strongly with the universal principle that, uh, people\u2019s voices should be heard, uh, and not suppressed.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Can I translate that for you? Let me translate that. Basically what he says is he\u2019s standing with the Iranian people but whatever the government there decides is fine with him. Which means he\u2019s not standing with the Iranian people. Now, since when did Barack Obama become concerned about democracy? Barack Obama opposed Iraq. He opposed the plan to bring democracy to the Middle East in Iraq. Now all of a sudden he\u2019s worried about democracy? That\u2019s because of his speech. He\u2019s burned, folks. He\u2019s burned. He thought that speech… I mean, he\u2019s got a complex. He thought that speech was going to have a massive impact on the Iranian leaders and the people, and all it did was arch and stiffen the backs of the mullahs. You know, this guy, I tell you, he keeps whining. He keeps moaning and complaining. <\/p>\n

He\u2019s dealing with all this stuff that he ‘inherited.\u2019 Have you heard that, Rachel? Have you heard him complain about that? Did you ever hear George W. Bush complain about 9\/11? What if Bush had spent the months and years following 9\/11 whining and moaning about it, that he didn\u2019t bargain for that, that nobody told him that was going to happen? But you know what? He didn\u2019t. Ever. All he did was roll up his sleeves, got the country out of a serious financial crisis after 9\/11, and pretty damn quick. Now, Obama knew exactly what he was getting into here with Iran. Whether he wanted to admit it or not, he knew. He knew exactly what he\u2019s dealing with with Hamas. <\/p>\n

He knows exactly what he\u2019s dealing with with Hezbollah, and he seems to side with them, particularly over Israel. Now, if he thought this was going to be so difficult and so horrible, be it the economy, be it foreign policy, then he should not have asked to be placed in the office. If he keeps complaining about what he inherited and keeps crybaby whining and moaning about it, somebody at some point is going to tell him to just shut the hell up and man up. Like I just advised the gay-lesbian- transgender community to do: Man up in dealing with this guy being somebody other than what you thought. <\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: All right, I want to go back to a sound bite here, folks. Something just occurred to me. Well, it occurred to me during the top-of-the-hour break. This is Obama this morning at the White House in the middle of a joint press conference, he\u2019s talking about Iran here.<\/p>\n

OBAMA: You\u2019ve seen in Iran some initial reaction from the supreme leader that indicates he understands the Iranian people have deep concerns about the election. It\u2019s not productive given the history of US-Iranian relations to be seen as meddling, the US president meddling in Iranian elections. What I will repeat —<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s enough. Now, I\u2019m going to be honest. He says we\u2019re not going to be seen as meddling, the US president meddling in Iranian elections. Now, mostly you can go back and look — some bloggers have found this, Reagan talking about what happened in Poland, supporting Lech Walesa when the unions, they rioted against the communist government. Whenever Reagan, Bush, whatever, whenever there was an outbreak against freedom in the world they went out and made a statement, because we played a sound bite from Bush yesterday from his second inaugural telling anybody in the world you stand for freedom, you stand with us and we stand with you. It\u2019s a tradition for the United States president to signal people all over the world that we stand for liberty, your liberty and ours, we stand with you. This man cannot bring himself to do it. He says we\u2019re not going to meddle; we\u2019re not going to meddle in their elections. <\/p>\n

Does that mean we\u2019re not going to meddle in what they\u2019re trying to do with nuclear power and nuclear weapons? Does that mean if they get nukes we\u2019re not going to meddle given our history with this insane regime? You know, it\u2019s very interesting who Obama chooses to impose his values on. He had no problem telling Israel to stop settlements in the West Bank, and I loved it when Netanyahu basically said, screw you, buddy. Now, given our history with Iran, does that mean that they have a permanent get out of jail card? What does this mean, not productive, given the history of US-Iranian relations, to be seen as meddling? The consequences of this statement, even if he did later specify elections, the consequences of this statement are breathtaking to me, stunning statement, because if he says we\u2019re not going to meddle in the elections it means we are going to excuse brutal authoritarian behavior because the regime is firing on protesters. He goes, I don\u2019t like that, but we\u2019re not going to meddle. An amazing thing to say. A rationalization, in other words, for not speaking up for liberty, which is something traditional that United States presidents do. It\u2019s as revealing as anything about Obama. <\/p>\n

I will guarantee you, my friends, I know these people like I know every square inch of my rapidly shrinking but yet glorious naked body. Sixty-five pounds, by the way, now, 225. The shirt I\u2019m wearing today fit Omar the tent maker. At any rate, we did a parody here on his address to the world. I will guarantee you that Cairo speech he fully expected the world to snap to. He expected free elections in Iran so much so that last Friday when there were exit poll reports — (laughing) — he goes out and starts talking all the new democracy and how it\u2019s great, and there may be change coming, all because he made a speech. This man\u2019s ego is not containable. There is no container in the world that will contain his ego because it\u2019s constantly expanding anyway. You could find a container large enough to put his ego in it would eventually be blown up with the expanding ego. This guy\u2019s ego is expanding faster than the Soviet Union was expanding back in the sixties and seventies, but there\u2019s no telltale birthmark on Obama to indicate it like there was on Mikhail Gorbachev. <\/p>\n

So that election was about him. It was supposed to be a new day just because of his words, and it didn\u2019t happen. And now he\u2019s fumbling around trying to, A, excuse what he said last Friday, and, B, we\u2019re not going to meddle, we don\u2019t like it when they fire on people, we don\u2019t like it when they repress the vote blah, blah — and now, folks, now the mullahs — these are smart people because they know what dummkopfs they\u2019re dealing with with worldwide journalists. The mullahs are now saying we\u2019re going to have a partial recount. So the idiot community of journalists, ‘Oh, this is wonderful, look what Obama\u2019s forced, he\u2019s forced a recount,\u2019 a partial recount? These people know exactly who all of the useful idiots in the world are and they play \u2019em like Stradivarius. You think there\u2019s going to be any change? The UK Telegraph has a story today about how there were leaked reports that Ahmadinejad actually came in third in this election. I am looking for it even as we speak. Sit tight and I\u2019ll find it as I go through this. See, I jump around here. I had this Iranian stuff at the bottom of the stack today but the way things unfold, where did I put it? <\/p>\n

By the way, the Democrats very upset that Robert Byrd\u2019s health is improving. They are. They\u2019re upset that his health is improving because he opposes the czars, he opposes Obama\u2019s czars, thinks they\u2019re unconstitutional. He opposes this health care stuff that Obama is trying to do. Here it is. UK Telegraph: ”Iran Protest Cancelled as Leaked Election Results Show Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Came in Third\u2019 — Iran\u2019s reformist presidential candidate Mir-Hossein Mousavi has called off a major rally to protest last Friday\u2019s election results, amid claims police had been cleared to open fire on protesters.\u2019 It\u2019s by Colin Freeman. It goes on to say that ‘a statement on Mr. Mousavi\u2019s campaign website announced that the demonstration had been postponed.\u2019 Leaked figures, authenticity cannot be confirmed, leaked figures say Ahmadinejad came in third. No surprise. It didn\u2019t matter what place he came in! Didn\u2019t matter what place anybody came in. It doesn\u2019t matter what the recount\u2019s going to say. The recount is for the benefit of dolts like our State-Run Media.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I want to play you an audio sound bite or two. They\u2019re hilarious. First the greatest press secretary ever, that would be the stumbling, bumbling Robert Gibbs in his press briefing this afternoon. Unidentified reporter said, ‘Robert, are you at all concerned that the president\u2019s measured response, the measured response of the United States so far to the Iranian election could harm the Americans, the president\u2019s image not only in Iran, but around the world?\u2019<\/p>\n

GIBBS: No, I — I think, uh, this administration\u2019s commitment to democracy has been demonstrated in the commitment in resources that, uh, that we\u2019ve put forward. But at the same time, I think it\u2019s important that I reemphasize what the president said about sovereignty, but more importantly, that I emphasize that this is a debate inside of Iran for Iranians.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, so the estimable Robert Gibbs had no problem, we\u2019re not going to meddle, we\u2019re not going to meddle. They\u2019re sovereign. If they want nuclear weapons, they can have nuclear weapons. They want nuclear power, they can have nuclear power. We\u2019ve already told them they can go nuclear power.
