RUSH: Tupelo, Mississippi, this is Guy. You\u2019re next on the Rush Limbaugh program. Hi.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hi, Rush. Man, I\u2019ll tell you what. This is the greatest honor.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you very much, sir. I understand that.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I\u2019ve been listening to you since \u201988, and first-time caller so a little nervous, but, anyway —<\/p>\n

RUSH: I understand that, too. You know, I\u2019ve been where you are. I have been on hold calling a talk show and you never know when the guy that the screener is going to say, ‘Okay, you\u2019re next!\u2019<\/p>\n

CALLER: That\u2019s it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You\u2019re waiting all this time, you\u2019re hoping you don\u2019t forget what the guy was talking about and all of a sudden you get the ‘go\u2019 signal and you your brain freezes. I\u2019ve been where you are. That\u2019s why we\u2019re kind, patient, and tolerant with all first time callers here.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Thank you.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You bet.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I bought a cash-for-clunker deal, and I really sort of feel guilty about it now.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Why?<\/p>\n

CALLER: My daughter needed a car really bad. She had a 14-mile-per-gallon Chevy Blazer, and she needed something better, and we got a great deal, but I just really feel guilty about it. <\/p>\n

RUSH: Why?<\/p>\n

CALLER: It\u2019s almost like I let you down.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Me?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah, sorta.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Why are you feeling guilty about using the cash-for-clunker program? All you did was use somebody else\u2019s money, some other taxpayer\u2019s money to go buy a car, what\u2019s the big deal? I mean, people do that in this country all the time. <\/line>CALLER: Well, I know. I try not to. I agree with you on about 99% of the stuff that you talk about. I can\u2019t stand the Pittsburgh Steelers. They\u2019re my worst team, but…<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH: (laughing) Can\u2019t stand the Pittsburgh Steelers!<\/p>\n

CALLER: Other than that, I agree with you on most everything else.<\/p>\n

RUSH: (laughing) They\u2019re not the worst team. What\u2019s your favorite NFL team, then?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Cowboys.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Cowboys.<\/p>\n

CALLER: And the Raiders second but they\u2019ve done terrible. They let me down.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, the Raiders, that\u2019s tough fandom for the Raiders. <\/p>\n

CALLER: Yep.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, look, the cash-for-clunkers thing, I can understand you feeling guilty because when it came along, I\u2019m sure you thought of it as you\u2019re getting your own money back. ‘Okay, fine. I paid enough in taxes, I\u2019m getting my own money back. I\u2019m gonna go buy a car and get ride of the clunker,\u2019 but really all it was was a redistribution of wealth. The way to look at it, you know, is they only gave money away to people buying cars. They didn\u2019t give everybody $4500 back. And, by the way, they didn\u2019t ‘give\u2019 anybody anything. They had to borrow it. We don\u2019t have the money. We don\u2019t have the money. Have you seen the deficit? Have you seen the national debt? But, look, I don\u2019t want you to feel guilty for too long over this. At some point, you have to get past it. What kind of car, Guy, did you buy for your daughter?<\/p>\n

CALLER: A Hyundai Elantra.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You bought a Hyundai?<\/p>\n

CALLER: A Hyundai. It was made in the United States.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You traded in an Obamamobile Blazer and you bought a Hyundai?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: A Hyundai Elantra?<\/p>\n

CALLER: It was made in the United States so I will say that.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah. It might have been assembled here.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, what miles per gallon does a Hyundai Elantra get?<\/p>\n

CALLER: The average is 24.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Oh, well, so you get ten miles per gallon ahead of the game.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: It\u2019s a smaller car, right? <\/p>\n

CALLER: It is.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Does she like it?<\/p>\n

CALLER: My daughter had to have something. She just got married, her husband is in Iraq, and she had to have something better.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Wait a minute, now! Why didn\u2019t you say this in the first place? Her husband is in Iraq?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You got nothing to feel guilty about!<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well..<\/p>\n

RUSH: You\u2019ve got nothing whatsoever, nor does she! You shoulda told me that at the beginning. You have nothing to feel guilty about.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I appreciate it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: All right. I\u2019m glad you mentioned that to me. Nothing but pride you ought to have.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I go, oh, he definitely have great pride in him.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Good.<\/p>\n

CALLER: In all our soldiers. Big time.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, yeah. Guy, you\u2019re absolved. You don\u2019t need to feel guilty; just the exact opposite! I wish you\u2019d told me about your son-in-law in Iraq first. Go in peace. You don\u2019t need to be all tensed up about this.<\/p>\n

CALLER: All right.<\/p>\n
