CALLER: Hey! It\u2019s an honor to speak with you, Rush.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah, I have a question. If Obamacare goes through why do I keep hearing that it would be impossible to go back even if the conservatives take over in 2012? You know, I mean, like, Prohibition was overturned.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, Prohibition was overturned, but has any social program that has gotten started with its tentacles dug deep into the fabric of society ever been rolled back? Has it ever been fixed? Has it done anything but get worse?<\/p>\n

CALLER: No.<\/p>\n

RUSH: All right. Now, with health care, the thing about health care is that it will not be implemented \u2019til 2013, four years after it is signed by Obama. Now, that means that if Obama could be defeated in 2012 then there could be an effort made to not implement it. Congress can go back and do it, but once it starts… Look, it could be rolled back but it\u2019s going to take a long time — and depends on how long it is entrenched. I mean, has Medicaid been rolled back? It\u2019s done nothing but get worse and worse and worse.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah, so… I mean, is that the future of our country, every time the Democrats pass something, you know, we can\u2019t roll anything back, or are we just going down that road of socialism eventually?<\/p>\n

RUSH: One of the sad realities is that both political parties these days have gotten accustomed to the Washington culture, just sharing power now and then. But everybody in Washington believes, ‘You gotta get the bill! You gotta get a bill! You got to get a bill! You gotta get a bill!\u2019 You can\u2019t not get a bill.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah.<\/p>\n

RUSH: A bill can\u2019t fail, because if a bill fails the lobbyists don\u2019t get paid off.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hmm.<\/p>\n

RUSH: But look —<\/p>\n

CALLER: It kind of depresses me.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No. No, no, no, because we\u2019re in a conservative ascendancy now and conservatism is what\u2019s going to roll this back. Before you roll it back it\u2019s gotta be stopped. <\/p>\n

CALLER: Mmm-hmm.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You know, that\u2019s a hard, cold reality. It\u2019s like we\u2019re on this giant cruise ship and, ‘Okay, pull the engines. Just go to a dead stop.\u2019 You\u2019re still going to coast for a while out there because of momentum.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Same thing here. Look, we did succeed in the nineties. I\u2019ll give you an example of this. We succeed in welfare reform. It worked. Guess what? It is a target now for ‘reform\u2019 to get rid of all the reforms that made welfare reform work. So the Democrat Party wants as many people in dependency and need as possible, to get them to vote for the people who are making it possible for them to live. So it\u2019s a mighty task. In this case, rather than even think about rolling it back (you deal with that when it happens) the thing now to do is stop it. And, believe me, there are people working their butts off trying to stop it all over the place. I gotta run.
