RUSH: Folks, I\u2019ve been looking at all the exit poll data. I\u2019ve been looking at all of the election analysis that I can find. I\u2019ve had my staff working diligently trying to find something. I can\u2019t find it. I\u2019ve tried to find out how many votes Obama created or saved in New Jersey or Virginia. I mean we know everything else about the vote in Virginia and New Jersey, but I can\u2019t find out how many votes were created or saved there. Five hundred thousand is what I\u2019m guessing, may have been more. See, even though Obama\u2019s candidates lost, let me tell you something, folks, losing New Jersey is like Stalin being defeated in Moscow. It\u2019s like Castro being defeated in Cuba. It\u2019s like Reagan winning 100% of the vote in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It\u2019s like Hu Jintao being thrown out by the street sweepers of Beijing. It\u2019s like Kim Jong-il, the little pot-bellied guy over there in North Korea being eaten by dogs. I mean, Virginia is big, too, but New Jersey, the bluest of blue states. <\/p>\n

And they\u2019re trying to say this isn\u2019t about Obama? ‘Oh, no, Rush, it\u2019s not about Obama, look at the exit polls, it\u2019s about the economy.\u2019 Yeah, right, who\u2019s killing it? Obama is killing it. Look, he inherited — ha-ha — two blue states and they\u2019ve gone red. It\u2019s no wonder that Michelle took the two daughters out to see Miley Cyrus last night. Why watch dad\u2019s humiliation at home on TV all night. Get the kids out of the house. That\u2019s a good move by Michelle (My Belle) Obama out there. I mean, folks, I\u2019m trying to find the number of votes that have been saved or created in Virginia and New Jersey because even though Obama\u2019s candidates lost, I mean, if they follow through on the way they\u2019re analyzing everything happening here in the economy Obama can still declare a victory that his campaigning is working, even though he promised victories and his campaign plans failed, Obama\u2019s campaign plans for Corzine and Deeds are working exactly as he expected. <\/p>\n

In fact, Obama\u2019s campaigning exceeded his expectations. I mean, that\u2019s what they\u2019re saying about the stimulus. That\u2019s what they\u2019re saying about the economy. That\u2019s what they\u2019re saying about his efforts to save it and create jobs. It\u2019s going to hell in a handbasket and it\u2019s not coming back any time soon and they\u2019re talking about what a great job he did. So I would expect Bob Gibbs out there, the White House press secretary in his briefing today, to claim victory in New Jersey and Virginia on the basis of jobs saved, jobs created. I\u2019ll tell you what, folks, the results last night tell us one certain thing and that is that the Democrat Party is in trouble, it is led by a radical, it is stuck with extreme leaders in Congress who continue to defy the public and advance an extreme agenda that will undo that party. I predicted this. I predicted this months ago. This Virginia victory, too, I think they\u2019re both big in equal ways, but the Virginia victory is massive because it\u2019s only the second time one party has swept all three statewide races. That happened before we knew the results of New Jersey, and so you combine Virginia and New Jersey and what you have is a blowout. <\/p>\n

I think the worst is yet to come for the Democrats. Folks, psst, I know the media is actually listening to hear what I have to say about New York-23, but I want them to hear what I think about all these other things first. So I\u2019ll get to New York-23 in just a second. Psst, don\u2019t tell anybody. Don\u2019t give away the plan here. I know they\u2019re out there. If they\u2019re not, they got assigned people listening because they want to know what I\u2019m going to say about New York-23 and they\u2019re going to be shocked and stunned when they hear what I say about New York-23, and so will you. But I want them to hear this other stuff first. Shhh! Shhh! Shhh!<\/p>\n

Okay, where was I? Oh, yes. The worst has yet to come for the Democrats. Gosh, this is fun. Pushing not only health care but cap and trade and soon amnesty. I\u2019ll tell you something, you look at the exit polls, health care is way the hell down at the bottom in both Virginia and New Jersey, way down there at the bottom, like 14% in one place and 20% in another. I love they\u2019re focusing on the exit polls. In one state, I forget which, Virginia, 60% said it wasn\u2019t about Obama and in another state 55%. Well, that means 40% said it was about Obama in a state that he swept, in two states that he swept, 40 to 45% said it was about Obama. When the exit polls say in both states that the economy is number one and jobs and taxes, I mean if that isn\u2019t about Obama, I don\u2019t know what is. Do you think they\u2019re still voting against George Bush out there? I don\u2019t think so, folks. How is that hope and change working out for you? <\/p>\n

Now, taxes are heading up, unemployment keeps edging up, Obama\u2019s policies cannot reverse this, and they\u2019re not intended to reverse this course. They are intended to do exactly what they are doing, as I have bravely, singularly said anyplace I\u2019ve had the chance. Obama has now put several blue states in play, the red states are hardening. Don\u2019t believe any of the accurately predicted by me yesterday media spin today. This is a nightmare for the Democrats, what happened in Virginia, and the truth of the matter when we get to New York-23 that\u2019s not all that big a deal for them. I\u2019ll explain that when we get there. I mean, folks, let me tell you something. I think last night Virginia and New Jersey — and, by the way, in New York, upstate New York, Republicans were winning all kinds of little local offices, same thing in Virginia. It\u2019s a huge sweep. This last night may well have been Obama\u2019s Waterloo. I\u2019m not kidding about that, it may have been Obama\u2019s Waterloo last night. <\/p>\n

My first clue that they\u2019re really bugged by it was when they tried to tell everybody he wasn\u2019t watching the returns. Ha! What was he doing? Chain smoking, shooting hoops? You know, the interesting thing about all this, folks, is that it is anti-Obama. This is not to take away from McDonnell or Christie. McDonnell, as the campaign wore on, started sounding more and more conservative and saying so, testifying to his conservative credentials, and Christie did, too, toward the end of the campaign. And they\u2019re going to try to say there\u2019s a war in the Republican Party because of New York-23, but, no, no, no, no, no, there is a war in the Democrat Party. <\/p>\n

I have two stories, one is by Byron York in the Washington Beltway Examiner: ‘MoveOn.org is sending out e-mails today seeking more contributions for its campaign to defeat any Democratic senator who does not fully support Obamacare. Yesterday the left-wing activist group asked members to contribute ‘to a primary challenge against any Democratic senator who helps Republicans block an up-or-down vote on health care reform.\u2019 Today, MoveOn reports that it has received $2 million in pledges in less than 24 hours. ‘It\u2019s a clear sign of how angry progressives would be at any Democrat who helps filibuster reform,\u2019 MoveOn executive director Justin Ruben writes in the new e-mail.\u2019 I also have buried in the stack here someplace, not going to waste time finding it now, I\u2019ll find it during the break, I\u2019ve got a funny post from the Daily Kos, Markos Moulitsas, whatever his name is, and it\u2019s funny. I mean these guys are blaming these losses on the fact that the Democrats were not socialist enough, the Democrats are not communist enough, didn\u2019t go far left enough. <\/p>\n

So for all this talk about an attack and a war going on in the Republican Party, believe me when I tell you there is one happening in the Democrat Party at their grassroots level. Make no mistake. Look, folks, losing New Jersey is like Ted Kennedy losing Massachusetts. I mean, it\u2019s huge. I gotta take a break but let me get one more thing in here and then we\u2019ll get to New York-23 and some other details and sound bites all straight ahead. Obama now has to defend his base. He can\u2019t count \u2019em. That\u2019s what this Move On stuff means, it\u2019s what the Daily Kos stuff means, these returns last night is what it means. He\u2019s turning purple states red. He\u2019s making red states redder. And he\u2019s now defending states he should never have to defend. He should never have to defend in New Jersey. New Jersey! And 18 points in Virginia! They thought they had Virginia forever after the 2008 election and not only does Obama have no coattails, he may actually hurt candidates when he goes in there and campaigns for them. <\/p>\n

I mean he put it all on the line in New Jersey. They knew it was over, threw Creigh Deeds overboard a couple weeks ago but they were all in New Jersey. They can\u2019t run around and say this wasn\u2019t about him. I mean they can take it and the media acolytes, sycophants will say it, but we know the truth. He\u2019s defending states he should never have to defend. He\u2019s on defense. The party, trust me when I tell you, the party is unraveling. It was always a weak coalition disparate elements and his policies, Obama\u2019s policies are so radical that he\u2019s changing the map in ways that are killing his own party. Trust me on this. Look at Virginia. Twelve months ago it was said to be lost to conservatives. Obama\u2019s defeat there was smashing, embarrassing, humiliating. And you tack New Jersey on to it, and it\u2019s hubba hubba. <\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: Here\u2019s this post. It\u2019s from last night at the Daily Kos. ‘There will be much number-crunching tomorrow,\u2019 he says here, ‘but preliminary numbers (at least in Virginia) show that GOP turnout remained the same as last year, but Democratic turnout collapsed. This is a base problem, and this is what Democrats better take from tonight: 1. If you abandon Democratic principles in a bid for unnecessary ‘bipartisanship\u2019, you will lose votes. 2. If you water down reform in favor of Blue Dogs and their corporate benefactors, you will lose votes. 3. If you forget why you were elected — health care, financial services, energy policy and immigration reform — you will lose votes. <\/p>\n

‘Tonight proved conclusively that we\u2019re not going to turn out just because you have a (D) next to your name, or because Obama tells us to. The choice is yours. Give us a reason to vote for you or we sit home.\u2019 You know what\u2019s amazing about this? It sounds just like conservatives angry at the Republican Party. It\u2019s almost just like that. So this guy is saying that the problem was with the Democrat base not turning out and that going along with Blue Dogs isn\u2019t the way to cure that. So I guess we could say here that there\u2019s a civil war brewing in the Democrat Party and they need to go more in the middle. The Democrat Party needs a bigger tent! The Democrat Party needs to go to middle. The Democrat Party needs moderates! The Democrat Party needs to expand it\u2019s base! Everything that they are saying from a template about us on the Republican side we could turn right around and smack \u2019em with. <\/p>\n

Really. ‘Look at this. Why, your base is unhappy with you. Your base is threatening to stay home and not vote. Obama is not even enough to get them out there. You need moderates in your party. You can\u2019t let these far left-wing extremists run the show! They\u2019re going to take you down to defeat.\u2019 The same thing that they say about us we can say about them. I mean, every template, every premise that is falsely presented we\u2019re about to throw it right back at them — and in our case we will be telling the truth. Now, New York-23… Oh, one little bit of information here before getting into New York-23, I have a friend who lives in Westchester County in New York. That\u2019s deep blue, deep blue Westchester County. A Republican there, Rob Astorino, won by 16 points over a longtime Democrat incumbent. And Rob Astorino has a day job. <\/p>\n

He runs the Catholic Channel for Sirius XM Satellite Radio. He hosts a weekday show with the Cardinal. Now, folks, this is a deep blue place. I mean, the Democrats ought to be terrified by this. It means they can no longer win in races for offices that have nothing to do with social issues in blue states by scaring voters about conservatives\u2019 positions on social issues. Because as far as liberals are concerned, you can\u2019t get any scarier than a Catholic talking to the Cardinal every week on the radio. So a Catholic in a deep, deep blue county talking to the Cardinal every day on a Catholic by satellite radio wins by 16 points and they want to try to tell us the social issues scare people off? Don\u2019t buy any of it! Don\u2019t buy any of the template, any of the conventional wisdom that\u2019s spouted by the State-Controlled Media. <\/p>\n

RUSH: Barbara, Westchester County in New York, deep blue it is. Welcome Barbara.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hi, Rush, thank you very much for taking my call.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I think you\u2019re great, really —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you. Thank you very much.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I can\u2019t believe I\u2019m talking to you. That\u2019s just great. Look, I was calling you because in Westchester County we did a great thing last night. We voted out Andy Spano, who is the county executive and was our county executive for 12 years.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah?<\/p>\n

CALLER: And the Republican, Rob Astorino, won by 16%. And, get you, that Andy Spano, not only did he raise our taxes 60%, but at the same time he was not only on the line, you were talking about the man upstate, but in Westchester County Andy Spano was on the ticket not only as a Democrat, but Andy Spano was running for county executive was on the ticket as a conservative. There is a backroom deal that\u2019s another whole story, but believe it or not, he was on there ‘conservative.\u2019<\/p>\n

RUSH: Right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: And we won. We won because the people in Westchester County are fed up, fed up with the property taxes.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Let me repeat, Barbara, what to me is fascinating, because all of what you said is true, and I\u2019m sure it was a huge factor. One of the things also that we are told is that the social issues are going to kill any chances the Republican Party ever has. Abortion and all this attention to cultural issues will be the certain death, doom of the party. Well, who is the guy who won? Who is he? He has a day job. He hosts the Catholic Channel on Sirius XM satellite radio, and he interviews the cardinal once a week. Now, you\u2019re in Westchester County. You have a 12-year incumbent, you have a man who hosts a Catholic radio network, runs it, interviews the cardinal once a week, in deep blue Westchester County winning by 16 points. Now, the Democrats up there, I\u2019m guaranteeing you, a guy that hosts the Catholic Channel in deep blue Westchester County? That\u2019s like showing the cross to Dracula, and the guy wins by 16 points!<\/p>\n

You can\u2019t get more social issues than somebody running the Catholic network and talking to the cardinal once a week. You can\u2019t get more social on issues and culture than that. You know, everybody thinks Catholic Church is hated and despised and so forth. How do you explain this? There\u2019s a lot of factors here. Barbara is exactly right. The corruption and raising taxes and all these things, it\u2019s arrogance which rubs people the wrong way, but I don\u2019t think that you can take out of the equation his day job. See, folks, here\u2019s my point. Exit polls say no, it wasn\u2019t about Obama. Conventional wisdom: Republicans have gotta get rid of social issues. Conventional wisdom: Republicans gotta have a big tent, get moderates in there. Don\u2019t believe any of it. Don\u2019t believe a word of it. It is all intended to get you to adopt beliefs that will secure defeat of your party. And, sadly, some of our smart people have fallen right in line with it.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: Snerdley has a good question. I think I have an answer for it. Barbara from Westchester County called in just outraged about property taxes. I got my property tax bill yesterday. Did you guys get yours? Percentage-wise a staff member is saying that they may be paying a higher percentage than do I. Yeah, you\u2019re in New Jersey. Well, we\u2019ll compare percentages. Anyway, in my case I write the check for the property taxes. The question certainly is, ‘How come people get so upset about their property taxes but not their overall tax burden?\u2019 <\/p>\n

I\u2019ve always believed that people are not as aware of income taxes that are withheld \u2019cause they never see it anyway. They might look at the gross on a pay stub or the automatic deposit slip, but they see the net. I don\u2019t know how many people, you know, property taxes are part of the mortgage payment. But you still make the payment, you\u2019re still paying it, you still write the check so you know how much it is. You add to it now the plummeting value of most people\u2019s homes, and the rising property taxes, and then you realize we\u2019ve been lied to all this time. This is not about assessing the value of our homes, they\u2019re just taxing what they think we\u2019ll pay, what we\u2019ll put up with, \u2019cause if it was really about accurate assessments, our taxes would be going down. But they\u2019re not. So there\u2019s a whole lot of reasons, Snerdley, why this is irritating to people. <\/p>\n

CALLER: First I want to say I loved your comments on the Berlin Wall. If they weren\u2019t so true it would be funny. What I wanted to tell you: The race in New York was so reminiscent of letting the liberal press pick our candidate for president last year.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, I know. It\u2019s pretty much like that. It\u2019s like letting the liberal media and the Democrats pick our candidate.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah. I mean, if we had any other candidate, like for mayor, I think we would have won. It\u2019s just (snorts) it\u2019s so frustrating.<\/p>\n

RUSH: See, that is the dirty little secret of New York-23 is how the smart thinkers in the Republican Party totally blew this. They picked the wrong candidate, stood by the wrong candidate, sent the wrong candidate 900 grand. The wrong candidate gets shellacked and pulls out and they praise her (clapping) ‘Oh, we love Dede,\u2019 and she endorses the Democrat. Had there been a primary up there — I know it\u2019s a special election but had there been a primary up there — none of this would have happened. And don\u2019t forget, now, Hoffman got a larger percentage of the vote up there in New York than any candidate has in a conservative line. I\u2019m not talking about total numbers of votes. I\u2019m talking about percentage. He got even a higher percentage than James Buckley got when he won a Senate seat running on the conservative line. <\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes, sir. A pleasure.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: What I\u2019m worried about is the split. All right, Virginia, McDonnell won by I think 20%, they said on Fox.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Eighteen, 18%, but who\u2019s counting.<\/p>\n

CALLER: All right, yeah. But the other races were like three to five percent. What I\u2019m worried about is this so-close split, how are the conservatives — not the Republicans, not the Republicans —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Wait a minute. What races are you talking about three to five percent?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, Corzine, New Jersey.<\/p>\n

RUSH: That was 5% in —<\/p>\n

CALLER: That\u2019s what I\u2019m saying. And then Hoffman. What did he lose by, six or seven percent?<\/p>\n

RUSH: He lost by five, but that\u2019s because 5% went to a candidate that wasn\u2019t even still in the race.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I understand, sir. I understand. But I\u2019m saying is, we\u2019re on this divide. We\u2019re so split, sir. How do we turn it conservative?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Who is this ‘we\u2019? Who are you talking about when you say ‘we\u2019?<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019m talking about conservatives. Not Republicans. Conservatives. How do we turn it, you know, to… We\u2019re so close. How do we turn it to our…? You\u2019re the one that can answer this, sir.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You want to know how we can get bigger majorities?<\/p>\n

CALLER: That\u2019s right. I want to know how we can get instead of three-five percent, how do we get ten, twenty percent, besides Virginia?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, now —<\/p>\n

CALLER: McDonnell won pretty good.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Wait a second. (sigh) I\u2019m trying to be patient here. Let\u2019s look at both of these states. Don\u2019t tell me you\u2019re unhappy with 18% in Virginia? <\/p>\n

CALLER: No, no, I\u2019m not unhappy with Virginia.<\/p>\n

RUSH: All right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: But I\u2019m saying with that Hoffman.<\/p>\n

RUSH: All right. Now let\u2019s go to New Jersey, then. New Jersey is so blue, it\u2019s almost black. It\u2019s a navy blue state. I mean, it is deep Democrat. For a Republican to win by one vote in that state, it says something. The last Republican that did was Christie Whitman, I believe. Maybe there\u2019s something about the name ‘Christie\u2019 that people vote for in New Jersey. Maybe every Republican has to have the name Christie in there, first or last name. But the corruption in this state is such that the most popular jewelry item among elected Democrats this year has been a set of handcuffs, and even at that Democrats usually still win. To have a 5% win in New Jersey is nothing to sneeze at. We\u2019re just starting. We just had big, big Obama victories in these states a year ago and they were talking about ‘realignment.\u2019 This is…<\/p>\n

I think there are two things going on here, Richard. One thing: Obama has been stopped. There is no question this is an anti-Obama vote. And largely when you see the exit polls say it\u2019s the economy, there can be no other person that\u2019s associated with the economy than Obama. They\u2019re not voting against Bush \u2019cause he\u2019s not around. The whole business of expanding majorities has to be that the Republican Party\u2019s gotta finally decide: Is it going to be conservative or is it going to go moderate light, David Brooks type? And if it goes that way we\u2019re going to lose and we\u2019re not going to be talking about majorities, winning majorities. The conservative movement here is on an ascendancy and it\u2019s got a fresh opportunity here, and this was a great start yesterday to have these two margins of victory. Eighteen percent is huge in Virginia, and it was all the way down the ticket, Bob, all the way down the ballot for the statewide offices. So there\u2019s a lot to build on here. <\/p>\n

And both these candidates, Bob, you know, I\u2019ve had people say in e-mail, ‘Well, Rush, I\u2019m listening to the media talk about McDonnell in Virginia. They\u2019re saying, ‘This is the candidate Republicans need to nominate: a moderate candidate. Moderate! He\u2019s somewhat conservative but not a right-winger. You Republicans need this. This is the kind of candidate you need.\u2019 What people don\u2019t want to admit here is that both Christie and McDonnell, in the last weeks of the campaign, went pedal-to-the-metal conservative. Particularly McDonnell when he saw the margin that he had. Had Hoffman been in this race from the get-go as a conservative with no turncoat, no liberal Republican on the ticket in New York-23 — she was still on the ballot in two places, Bob. She gets 5% of the vote yesterday. That\u2019s just a mismanaged campaign, election from the get-go by the ‘smart thinkers\u2019 in the Republican Party. There\u2019s every reason to feel optimistic about this. <\/p>\n

CALLER: I wanted to tell you about I\u2019m down here in Roanoke on the west side with Bob McDonnell winning, it really is a statement against Obama. I mean we have people down here that was winning just on the cap-and- trade issue alone. It\u2019s going to devastate the western part of Virginia, and I heard a lot of people they were talking about the cap and trade, the spending, and, of course, health care. It definitely was a statement against Obama. Absolutely.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I don\u2019t think there\u2019s any question about it. When the exit polls say that people\u2019s primary concern was the economy, I don\u2019t know how you can say that has nothing to do with Obama. I mean it\u2019s his! He owns it! He\u2019s destroying it. I think people are aware of this. Look, folks, nothing he said was going to happen has happened. It\u2019s the exact opposite. It\u2019s gotten worse. There aren\u2019t any new jobs. The infrastructure is not being fixed. I mean the stories of the money, that $213,000, Syracuse University or wherever it is to study the sex lives of freshman female college students. (interruption) It\u2019s a dead story? What do you mean it\u2019s a dead story? Did they cancel the money? No, they didn\u2019t cancel the money. See, people would do that for a dollar.
