RUSH: Jerry in Glendale, West Virginia, nice to have you on the EIB Network. Hello.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Good afternoon, Rush Limbaugh. How are you today?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Fine and dandy, sir, thank you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019ve got a question for you. The island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean, it has two countries on it. One side is the Dominican Republic, the other side Haiti. Haiti had an earthquake the other day that has devastated and killed many people. Why do we not hear anything from the other side of the island?<\/p>\n

CALLER: The Dominican Republic. In fact many reporters are staying in Santo Domingo for their accommodations. They fly back and forth to report on the horrible news in Haiti. I\u2019m not a geologist. I do not know why, on the same island, such a massive 7.0 earthquake only damaged Port-au-Prince and other parts of Haiti. One thing that you could speculate on is that there don\u2019t appear to have been too many building codes in Haiti. It doesn\u2019t appear that construction there was worth much. And probably you have a little bit better construction, building codes and techniques being used in the Dominican, but beyond that I can only guess. But I\u2019m sure we have geologists in this audience. We have people who will know this, and we\u2019ll get the answer to that before this program is over. It is interesting. I haven\u2019t heard of any damage in the Dominican Republic, have you? Has anybody been reporting on any there? <\/p>\n

The island of Hispaniola is close to a lot of places. There was a tsunami watch at first that was canceled. So it is an interesting question. I don\u2019t think it\u2019s all building codes. It\u2019s gotta be something about the topography, the geography. There\u2019s a huge mountain range that separates the two countries right on the border, and I don\u2019t know if that has anything to do with it but that huge mountain range, if there\u2019s ever, for example, a cat five or cat four hurricane headed our way, you want it to hit that mountain range because the altitude of the range is so high it can tear down the eye wall of a hurricane. Altitude is one of the big enemies of a hurricane eye and the falling pressure up there. I don\u2019t know why. I just know that it\u2019s true because the meteorologists that I\u2019ve studied have mentioned this, and I\u2019ve witnessed it once. There was a hurricane that weakened significantly; it wreaked havoc in the Dominican, got to that mountain range and the eye fell apart. It reformed after it came off the other side, after it came off of Haiti, but it never regained the full-fledged strength that it hit the Dominican with. <\/p>\n

RUSH: Jerry in Cookeville, Tennessee, you\u2019re next. Jerry, it\u2019s great to have you on the program.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Thank you, Rush. It\u2019s great to be on.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you, sir.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah, I heard earlier today that the president, Obama, was going to ask former President George W. Bush if he would lead… I guess… I don\u2019t know. If it would be a distribution or something to help with the relief program in Haiti. And I\u2019m thinking, ‘Well, why would he do this since he blamed him for all the disaster of Katrina down in New Orleans? Why would he even think about doing this, unless if something goes wrong, well, he can blame Bush again?\u2019<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, no. No. There are two things here. He can show bipartisanship. Get Clinton and Bush down there working in tandem. At the same time while Bush is down there, Obama will be able to say, ‘Look at our response to what happened in Haiti as opposed to the response in New Orleans.\u2019 We\u2019re going to hear that. We are going to hear that before this is all over and we will hear it orchestrated by somebody in the State-Run Media. We\u2019ll get a story (it won\u2019t be long) marveling at how quickly Obama mobilized an entire world and the United Nations to start immediate relief. ‘Why, that day US soldiers, US jets and materials and supplies arrived,\u2019 and it won\u2019t be long. It could be by the end of the day. On the cable shows tonight (certainly by tomorrow) we\u2019re going to get stories about how rapidly the Obama administration reacted and how thoroughly competent they were. Having Bush out there for this comparison to how slow Katrina was, it\u2019s just going to personalize it even more. I have no doubt that Bush is being used here by Obama for a multitude of purposes. <\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, hi.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hello? Hey. Hey, I agree with you that the media is going to be comparing Obama\u2019s — are you there?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, I\u2019m here!<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay. I agree with you that the media is going to be comparing Obama\u2019s reaction to Bush\u2019s reactions to their disasters, but I bet you nobody talks about how much opposition Bush had with so many local, clever Democratic politicians down there in Louisiana.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Oh, I know. You had ‘School Bus\u2019 Nagin and you had Kathleen Blanco keeping officials out of there. <\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Kathleen Blanco was really the culprit down there. She was so disorganized, incompetent, didn\u2019t know what she was doing. ‘School Bus\u2019 Nagin didn\u2019t move the school buses out, didn\u2019t use the buses to evacuate anybody. They totally politicized that, and they\u2019re going to do it with Haiti. They politicize everything. This is a golden opportunity. By the way, it\u2019s not that Obama has to burnish his credentials with the black community, but he\u2019s going to do it anyway. And if he gets the chance to say, ‘Republicans don\u2019t care about this. I\u2019m the one that had to move in,\u2019 he\u2019ll do it. He\u2019ll do it. Anyway I\u2019m glad you called out there, Jim. Thanks.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I\u2019m not going to be at CPAC this year.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Ugh! Oh, God. I\u2019m going to CPAC.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I have a scheduling conflict.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, darn you. Well, I\u2019m going to see Glenn anyway. I heard that he\u2019s speaking this year.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, he\u2019s keynoting this year.<\/p>\n

CALLER: That\u2019s good. That\u2019s good. But I\u2019m going to miss you I thought I was going to finally meet you. Okay, now I\u2019ll talk about Haiti. Tell \u2019em I\u2019ll be right down. My husband is screaming for me. I\u2019m really, really upset about this, because we have poured so much money into Haiti. But nobody ever watches it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Uh, uh, uh! Hold on just a second. For everybody at Media Matters for America and the Huffington Post, get your transcribers going because here comes some more lack of compassion. Okay, fire away.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay. Well, it\u2019s not lack of compassion. It\u2019s lack of common sense.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, no, no, they\u2019ll think it is. I know what you\u2019re going to say: We\u2019ve poured millions into there and it\u2019s pouring it down a drain. The amount of money that the world has given Haiti and it still can\u2019t revive itself? The problem is not lack of money. The problem is not lack of resources. That\u2019s somewhere else down there that\u2019s not right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, then they can write this down, too. My name is Debbie PICAPOI, and that\u2019s an acronym, and it stands for ‘Politically Incorrect and Proud Of It.\u2019 (laughing)<\/p>\n

RUSH: Good! I like it.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I like it. PICAPOI is a new word. I just made it up the other day, and that\u2019s who I am because I am sick of PC, because PC is a personal computer, and I am tired of having to live by those regulations, because people just take advantage. I mean, there is such fraud and such waste. When I look at the president\u2019s house in Haiti? I knew we had a big house, but I didn\u2019t know it was like three times the size of the White House. I can\u2019t understand how come those people haven\u2019t gone through those gates and pulled him out of there by his head of hair, if he has any. I don\u2019t know. I don\u2019t remember what he looks like.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Because 80% of them are in poverty and they\u2019ve got nothing to go in there with but clumps of dirt.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I know but they could climb over the fence and throw rocks in the windows or do something.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Look, they\u2019ve done that. They get gunned down. I mean, this place has been led by dictators or communists, which is one and the same, since the thirties.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes.<\/p>\n

RUSH: It\u2019s a disaster. The problem with Haiti is there\u2019s no capitalism there.<\/p>\n

CALLER: That\u2019s right. You know what? You\u2019re absolutely right. And the problem is our system here is we just keep giving money away to every Tom, Dick, and Harry across the water, everywhere. We should stop doing that. It\u2019s just about time that everybody learned how to stand up on their own two feet.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I agree but it\u2019s not going to happen. You\u2019ve got half a million people maybe dead. The pictures coming out of there are brutal. Remember, we went to Somalia over one picture of a starving young kid with insects flying around his head. We went to Somalia over one picture on the front page of the New York Times. This? I mean, we got C-130s flying in there but practically all the houses have collapsed. People are in the streets and dead bodies are in the streets. There\u2019s no way to get this aid anywhere. I mean, it\u2019s absolutely chaos down there. It\u2019s impossible to set up an orderly system. That\u2019s how much destruction that there is. But… (chuckles) Media tweak number two, here we go: The pictures of those C-130s flying in, boy, that looks good. That looks good.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Did I call it or did I call it? The White House is already doing all they can to make the parallels with Hurricane Katrina. White House press release: ‘Vice President Biden and Dr. Jill Biden to Travel to Louisiana and South Florida. On Friday, the Vice President will Highlight New Recovery and Rebuilding Efforts in New Orleans and Grand Lake, Louisiana; Dr. Biden to Visit Delgado Community College in New Orleans. On Saturday, the Vice President and Dr. Jill Biden will Travel to South Florida to Meet with Members of the Haitian-American Community and Responders who are Mobilizing Relief Efforts for Haiti.\u2019 So that\u2019s a White House press release, Biden and his wife going to New Orleans tomorrow, South Florida on Saturday.
