RUSH: There\u2019s a piece in the New York Times. I think it\u2019s the Sunday magazine that\u2019s coming this Sunday. Might just be the straight New York Times. It\u2019s devastating! It\u2019s incredible that this story is running in the New York Times. “This Skilled Storyteller Duped America into Passing the Iran Deal.”<\/a> It\u2019s a story about Ben Rhodes, who is Obama\u2019s head honcho on foreign policy. His brother, by the way, runs CBS News, just as an interesting little side light. I think his name is David Rhodes. But let me just… To give you an idea here of who this guy is, I want to read to you a pull quote from this story that\u2019s in the New York Times<\/a> coming up this week about Ben Rhodes.<\/p>\n


\nAgain, the headline: “This Skilled Storyteller Duped America into Passing the Iran Deal.” Here\u2019s the excerpt: On 9\/11 Ben Rhodes “saw the planes hit the towers… and after that he walked around for a while, until he ran into someone he knew, and they went back to her shared Williamsburg apartment and tried to find a television that worked…. and when he came back outside, everyone was taking pictures of the towers in flames. [Ben Rhodes] saw an Arab guy sobbing on the subway. ‘That image has always stayed with me,\u2019 he says.<\/p>\n

“‘Because I think [that “Arab guy”] knew more than we did about what was going to happen.'” So Ben Rhodes knew, even on 9\/11, that the “Muslim backlash” would be the worst thing about 9\/11. He knew! He saw an Arab man crying on 9\/11, and he knew. He knew that that the Arab guy was way ahead of us. He knew that Arab guy knew that there was gonna be all kinds of Muslim backlash, and he was worried about it. He was already crying! He wasn\u2019t crying about what happened the towers going down. He wasn\u2019t crying about the 3,000 people murdered. No, no, no, no.<\/p>\n

In Ben Rhodes\u2019 worldview, the Arab guy was crying \u2019cause he knew the United States was a bunch of racist bigots and were getting prepared here for the inevitable Muslim backlash that would happen. It\u2019s the New York Times Sunday magazine. That\u2019s Ben Rhodes. That\u2019s Obama\u2019s national security advisor. Now, “The Obama administration cooked up a phony story to sell Americans on the Iranian nuke deal, lying that US officials were dealing with ‘moderates\u2019 in the Islamic theocracy who could be trusted to keep their word, it was reported Thursday.<\/p>\n

<\/a>“In a revealing article posted on the New York Times website, President Obama\u2019s foreign-policy guru Ben Rhodes bragged about how he helped create the false narrative [that we were dealing with Iranian moderates] because the public would not have accepted the deal had it known that” we were actually talking to the imams and the mullah\u2019s about it, that we were talking to the ayatollahs — which we were. He knew the American public would reject it if they found out — if we found out — that Obama was dealing (and caving to) and John Kerry was dealing with (and caving to) the Ayatollah Khamenei and the President Rouhani and all the rest of the hardliners.<\/p>\n

So he creates this lie! He crafts this story. We were dealing with moderates in Iran, there\u2019s a big moderate class there, and they not really sign on to all of the radicalism represented by Ayatollah Khamenei. It was a total lie. “The White House line — which Rhodes says he created — was that Obama started negotiations after the supposedly moderate Hassan Rouhani was elected president in 2013. But Obama had set his sights on working out a deal with the mad mullahs as early as 2008, and negotiations actually began when strongman Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was still president.”<\/p>\n

Now, I am not gonna sit here and tell you that I\u2019m shocked. I\u2019m not gonna sit here and tell you that I am in any way surprised that Obama would be able to find common ground with Islamic radicals in Iran. Doesn\u2019t surprise me a bit. (Keep in mind that the worst thing happening in America today is Donald Trump. Never forget that.) We have Obama now dealing with Ahmadinejad. One of the first things he did when he was inaugurated was start working on a nuclear deal with Iran, not with “moderates.” Ben Rhodes is out there bragging that he made up that whole story to sell it to the American people.<\/p>\n

Ben “Rhodes, the deputy national security adviser for strategic communications,” his brother runs CBS News, “concedes in the article [in the New York Times] that the so-called moderate regime is not moderate at all,” that there are no “moderates” in Iran\u2019s government! “Despite having little foreign-policy experience, Rhodes, 38…” No foreign policy experience! None! He\u2019s 38 years old. Last time I looked at the news, everybody\u2019s worried that Donald Trump\u2019s gonna pick diplomats and so forth that have never worked at the State Department before.<\/p>\n


\n“They don\u2019t have any idea what foreign policy is, don\u2019t have any idea what diplomacy is. Oh, wow, this Trump guy, he\u2019s a dangerous risk! Oh, we can\u2019t deal with him. My God, it\u2019s horrible!” And we find out that that very thing has been going on in the Obama administration — and many things just like it and worse — but we haven\u2019t been able to be critical because, why, they might think we\u2019re racists.” We have been critical, but the Republican Party refused to be — and those of us who were critical, are now being blamed. Yes, you see, we\u2019re the ones giving conservatism bad name because we\u2019re the ones that “don\u2019t behave with grace.”<\/p>\n

We\u2019re the ones that “don\u2019t behave with politeness” and we\u2019re the ones that “don\u2019t compromise” and we\u2019re the ones that “are not willing to look the other way and try to compromise with people.” We are “hypercritical” and what have you. No all we are is truth-tellers, and the Republican Party says, “No, no, no! We can\u2019t have that. We gotta work with the Democrats and Obama on amnesty! We can\u2019t risk this. We\u2019ve gotta hold onto our Senate committee chairmanships. We can\u2019t be critical.” This is a piece by Thomas Ricks, ForeignPolicy.com. Ricks is an accredited foreign policy foreign policy diplomat guru type of guy. Perhaps the key sentence in this profile of Ben Rhodes:<\/p>\n

“His lack of conventional real-world experience of the kind that normally precedes responsibility for the fate of nations — like military or diplomatic service, or even a master\u00c2\u2019s degree in international relations, rather than creative writing — is still startling.” Ben Rhodes\u2019 “lack of conventional real-world experience.” No, all he is, is he\u2019s a guy that can go out and wine and dine the media and get him on Obama\u2019s side. That\u2019s why he was given this position. I know we\u2019ve made jokes about White House press secretaries for Democrats and what their jobs are. You get paid to go out and lie. You know, either Clinton or Obama, whatever. Apparently it\u2019s true here at the National Security Department and the spokesman over there.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
