Everybody’s falling for this notion that there’s Muslim outreach going on. This is not Muslim outreach. They’re planting the flag of victory with this mosque. That’s what they’re doing. Opening a mosque at Ground Zero? That says we won. That’s what’s going on here. Anyone who has ever dealt with the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission could see this coming 600 feet away. The ladies of New York City’s Landmarks Preservation Commission represent the quintessential liberal busybodies. If you saw Woody Allen’s movie Sleeper, the women, the New York busybodies depicted in that movie are exactly who we’re talking about here on the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. They are women with the body of a crab and the head of a social worker. That’s the best way to describe it. And these are the neophytes that sit up there and vote for denying landmark status, which in essence, as far as these babes are concerned, is a vote for the mosque.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Now we get to see a real race, ladies and gentlemen. Now we get to see a real race. Who will get their project built faster? The new Freedom Tower, will it go up faster, or will the new mosque at Ground Zero go up faster? My money is on the mosque. Yours ought to be, too, if you’re gonna place any money on it.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Freddie in Dutchess County, New York, you’re first. I’m glad you held on. Great to have you on the EIB Network.

CALLER: Oh, hey, great to speak with you, Rush. Great show, as always.

RUSH: Thank you, sir.

CALLER: I wanted to talk about this mosque that’s in the news down in the city. It seems to me like as soon as it made the news it was a no-win situation, and why it made the news is beyond me because the best thing our politicians do is demagogue, filibuster. I mean my whole life I just wanted a bureaucrat to go away and this is the one time I wanted one, and so I just wanted your thoughts on it.

RUSH: What do you mean it’s a no-win situation?

CALLER: Well, if you stop it it’s a religious war; if it goes ahead it’s a victory for the enemy. I mean, there’s no good in it. It just seems like it’s dividing us again like the Arizona situation. The people that are sensitive and the people that aren’t. You know, you got all these ones, ‘Oh, you gotta let the religion through.’ You know, the same old same old.

RUSH: Hey, wait a second, I don’t buy the premise that it’s a no-win situation. There are hundreds of mosques all over New York City. New York City is not denying Muslims mosques, but to put one at Ground Zero? I mean that’s caving — and to say there’s a no-win in Arizona over illegal immigration? What happened…? No win in enforcing the borders? The only way you can have that kind of attitude is if you don’t want any controversy or any confrontation or any disagreement. You can live your life that way. That’s give everybody what they want, whatever it means to you whether they are right or wrong and you won’t have any confrontation. Everybody will love you. You’ll be a doormat, but everybody will like you. I don’t mean personally, Freddie, I just don’t accept the premise that this is a no-win situation.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Here’s Joe in Centerport, New York. It’s great to have you on the EIB Network. Hello.

CALLER: Rush, nice to talk to you. It’s an honor.

RUSH: Thank you, sir.

CALLER: I’ve been trying to reach you for many years now. Rush, I’d like to talk to you today about the mosque in Lower Manhattan.

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: I’d like to just point out to all the liberals out there who think that this is some sort of an outreach program to us, just look at the name of the mosque: The Cordoba mosque. This is a significant name in the Muslim faith, okay? It was captured in 711, and anybody could just Google this, all right? This is nothing I’m making up. In 766 it was named the great capital and financial and cultural center in the religion. What they’re doing is claiming victory. The day that the first piece of concrete is knocked off of that old building to make way for this mosque, it will be all over the news.

RUSH: Oh, I know. This is, exactly as I said at the top of the program, a way to claim victory. This is not an outreach program.

CALLER: No, not at all. This is the line in the sand. The people have to come out, come out of their homes and start making themselves seen down there and just prohibit anybody from going near that building. That whole area down there is sacred ground. Three thousand citizens died. Doesn’t anybody remember that?

RUSH: Yeah, but they don’t want it to happen again. So they think that making nice will stop these kinds of things.

CALLER: No. No. That’s not going to happen.

RUSH: Let me ask you: What would happen, do you think, if the Ku Klux Klan wanted to establish a memorial at Gettysburg?

CALLER: Well, uh… (laugh) You know, I don’t know. Nothing’s happening in lower Manhattan.

RUSH: What do you mean, you don’t know? They wouldn’t get to first base! Nobody would put up a Klan building memorial anywhere, much less Gettysburg.

CALLER: Well, you’re right there, but where is the public outrage? If we don’t have it for Lower Manhattan —

RUSH: The public outrage, it’s there, you’re just not seeing a march in the street. Rasmussen, a lot of people are polling, and the numbers opposing this mosque are in the seventies and eighties.

CALLER: And how do you explain Bloomberg’s stand on this? You know, just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should do it and he hasn’t even brought that out.

RUSH: How do I explain Bloomberg’s stance on banning trans fat? For one thing he’s a liberal! That’s all I need to know in explaining Bloomberg. Number two, he’s power hungry. Number three, he’s a nanny. Understanding liberals is easy for me. You’re frustrated people aren’t in the streets opposing the mosque when the vast majority of the American people — not just in New York, but American people — oppose it. What’s frustrating to me is after years, decades of examples of liberal failure and destruction, people still refuse to identify it and recognize it when it’s right in front of their face. ‘How do you explain Bloomberg? ‘ He’s a liberal. Don’t give me this he’s a Republican or he’s a moderate, an independent or a Libertarian.

He’s a liberal, and one of the things that you have to understand about liberals is they look at this country as flawed. Many liberals — privately, some of them publicly — believe we deserved what was coming to us on 9/11 because we’ve been running the world roughshod. We’ve been conquering and we have been stealing resources, and we have been enriching ourselves while making the rest of the world poor and impoverished. No, it’s not hard to understand at all. It may be tough to accept but it isn’t hard to understand. It just takes a little courage.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Hey, got an idea, folks. Let’s go to Hiroshima and Nagasaki and let’s build giant monuments in the shape of nuclear bombs and call it the Manhattan Project. I mean you’d have Americans objecting to that, wouldn’t you? Robert Gibbs today at the White House press briefing was asked the White House position on the mosque at Ground Zero. You know what he said? He basically said it’s in the hands of the local authorities. The local authorities. Which reminds me, have not we been told for years by the Democrats and the rest of the left that international terrorism’s a local police issue and that we don’t really need to deal with it like the Bush administration. And now we’re told that illegal immigration is not a local issue, illegal immigration in Arizona’s not a state issue, it’s a federal issue? Only the federal government can handle it? But a mosque at Ground Zero, that’s something for the local authorities to worry about, Gibbs said. Don’t bother me here at the White House. We have more important things to do than worry about that, like coordinating the Khalid Sheikh Mohammed trial near the mosque when it’s built.

This regime, ladies and gentlemen, seems to be very highly selective in deciding what matters should be left to the local authorities versus those that should be directly controlled by the regime. Local authorities? Does that not sound Orwellian, local authorities. I remember there was a town hall meeting back in the Clinton years. Clinton was gonna go somewhere in Ohio. CNN was covering it, and the people were not happy. I don’t remember what it was about. Bernard Shaw was the anchor and they went on the air before Clinton and the administration and Madeleine Albright, somebody came out there and the people were just raucous, and Bernard Shaw, ‘Wait for the officials!’ as though the final ultimate word was from the officials, meaning the administration. Wait for the officials, before you get mad, wait for the authorities. The authorities are at checkpoints at the Berlin Wall, the authorities.

We have time to squeeze in a call here? I don’t think so. I’m looking at the list here, and I don’t see anybody that’s only worth less than one minute. So those of you on hold we’ll get to more phone calls in the ensuing hour, as soon as we get to it.

In the meantime, Washington Post: ‘Save the date, America. Democrats in Austin are throwing a Hawaiian-style luau Wednesday, complete with delicious ‘tropical fruit, desserts and side dishes.’ There’s a ‘presidential potluck’ in Phoenix, a ’49 Candles for America’ party in Des Moines and a ‘Yes We Cake!’ celebration in Evanston, Ill.’ Tomorrow is The One’s birthday. The One is 49. ‘In need of an enthusiasm transfusion, the president’s political operatives are staging a nationwide birthday extravaganza for the president.’ Barack Hussein Obama, mmm, mmm, mmm. Donate some of your unemployment compensation money to the Obama birthday party. They say tomorrow’s his birthday, but we really haven’t seen any proof of that.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I got an idea. For those of you in Arizona, I have an idea to solve the immigration problem. Just build a wall. Start building a wall along the border and call it a mosque. By the way, you could say, ‘Look, Arizona is not being attacked, America is. It’s not just Arizona being invaded. America is.’ So just build a wall, put a couple doors in it, call it a mosque and nobody will stop you.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: We have the sound bite of Gibbs this afternoon at the White House press briefing being asked a question by Suzanne Malveaux, ‘There’s a debate taking place in New York whether or not it’s appropriate to build a mosque, Islamic cultural center near the sight of Ground Zero. What’s the administration’s position on this?’

GIBBS: I’ve been asked about this a couple times. I think this is a — widely a matter for New York City and the local community to decide.

MALVEAUX: The president takes the position on religious freedom, on tolerance, why wouldn’t the administration —

GIBBS: Well, I think you’ve heard this administration and the last administration talk about the fact that we are not at war with a religion but with an idea that has corrupted a religion, but that having been said I’m not from here gonna get involved in local decision making.

RUSH: Isn’t this fascinating? Not gonna get involved in local decision making. Wouldn’t you love to be hearing that in Arizona? Let me ask you a question, was it just New York that was attacked on 9/11, or was it the country? It was the country, was it not? United States of America was attacked on 9/11. They’re getting involved in our local health care decisions. They’re getting involved in the kind of cars that we buy. They are getting involved in virtually every aspect of our lives they can insert themselves. Wall Street’s local. Wall Street is specifically in New York, and I don’t see Obama saying, ‘Well, it’s something for New York to handle, we’re not gonna really worry about bonuses there. That’s something for Mayor Bloomberg. You know, we believe in financial freedom.’ I don’t see ’em saying that. They are telling us what kind of thermostats we’re going to have in our houses. They’re telling us what kind of lightbulbs we’re going to have in our houses. They are involving themselves intimately at the local and personal level, but when it comes to the mosque, Gibbs said, (imitating Gibbs) ‘Well, I’ve said this repeatedly, it’s a local issue, religious freedom, tolerance, local community decide that.’ But Arizona, not national, Arizona’s local. I mean Phoenix is local. Phoenix has got immigration problems.

The governor, the mayor, sheriffs that run counties are not allowed. Henry Gates, Skip Gates, he’s local. Broke into his own house, neighbor called a cop, Obama called the cop stupid, had to have a beer summit at the White House. That’s local. You can’t get more local than somebody’s house. And Obama inserted himself in that, but we’re not gonna get involved in a local community issue, a mosque, not gonna decide. That’s for other people to decide.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: The Hill newspaper, the ACLU has praised the mosque, the Muslim center near Ground Zero. The ACLU, by the way, is a 501(c)(3) taxpayer supported charity. ‘The New York Civil Liberties Union and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) praised the center’s progress, saying that it represents the core of American values.’ The mosque, the ACLU: Represents the core of American values. If the ACLU thinks it, so does Obama.

Here’s Dan in Philadelphia. Great to have you on the program. Nice to have you here, sir.

CALLER: Hey, Rush, how are you?

RUSH: Very good.

CALLER: Hey, Rush, this one thing on the mosque that I haven’t heard addressed, where are the unions gonna weigh in? There’s nothing that’s done in New York from a shovel of dirt to a hammering a picture on a wall that’s not done by unions out there. This place is going to be built by unions.

RUSH: Yeah?

CALLER: How do they reconcile that?

RUSH: So?

CALLER: So, how do they do it? How do they do it with their brothers — policeman or fireman’s unions, they’re unions, too. How do these people do it? How do they reconcile building this place in light of what they’re doing?

RUSH: Have you ever heard of Richard Trumka? Have you ever heard of Andy Stern?

CALLER: Well, I’ve heard of them but I haven’t heard them address this. I’d like to see them do that.

RUSH: Well, they support Obama and they are the two biggest union chieftains in the country. So I think if a contest ensues between the trade unions, the people that are gonna build the mosque, if they indeed are going to do that, over loyalty to the cops and firemen, the first responders who died on 9/11 versus Obama, it’s not a contest.

CALLER: Well, they’ll have to publicly do it and that will be a contest. It will be a contest certainly for the rank-and-file.

RUSH: Well, it will be interesting to see. It’s a good point. It will be interesting to see. But the leadership is not a question mark.

CALLER: Yeah.

RUSH: The leadership is not a question mark. Interesting point. By the way, how are you doing? You got the NFL season coming up with no Donovan McNabb, no number 5 on the Iggles. How you doing? How is your attitude going into the season?

CALLER: It’s fine. Just another page turned, new players and —

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: — it’s just another product and these guys will put their brand of it out there —

RUSH: Let me ask you a question. The day that trade was announced, Donovan McNabb traded to the Washington Redskins, did the sun come up the next day in Philadelphia?

CALLER: Sure did.

RUSH: Really?

CALLER: Yeah. Yeah. He’s a good man, he’s a good man but his time had come and it’s time for new players.

RUSH: God’s a powerful entity in all this, really is. Thanks, Dan.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: It’s Tucson and Barney. Barney, welcome to the program, great to have you here.

CALLER: Thank you, Rush. You know, we’re almost 70 years past Pearl Harbor but even today if the Japanese wanted to build a shrine to their emperor within sight of the USS Arizona memorial, there would be a holy uproar.

RUSH: Uhhhhhh — where?

CALLER: Nationwide.

RUSH: Uhhhhhhhhhh — really?

CALLER: That would be my hope, this country wouldn’t sit by. Political correctness rules the issue on this particular one and there’s not the uproar that there ought to be.

RUSH: There is. You’re not seeing it ’cause it’s not being reported. But you’re not alone. We are in the vast majority. Close to 80% of the American people oppose this.

CALLER: Here’s hoping that their voices are heard.

RUSH: Well, Obama just passed it off as a local issue so the people in New York can do what they want. What if we built a couple giant monuments in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, giant replicas of a nuclear bomb?

CALLER: Doesn’t sound like our style.

RUSH: No, but if we did and called it the Manhattan Project, what would the reaction be in Nagasaki, Hiroshima, and Tokyo?

CALLER: Mass demonstrations, bombings, the —

RUSH: I think they’d try to buy Rockefeller Center Trust again.

CALLER: Well, wouldn’t mind a little bit of additional investment in this country but not in the form of a mosque at Ground Zero.

RUSH: I understand and I think you’re not alone, as I say. The vast majority of the American people are with you on that.

We got time to squeeze one more in in Columbus, Ohio. This is Seth.

CALLER: Hi, Rush.

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: How are you?

RUSH: Very good, sir. Thank you.

CALLER: I have a quick question since we’re very tolerant and we’re considering building a mosque at Ground Zero, I’m wondering if they’d be willing to build a synagogue at Mecca?

RUSH: (laughing) Well, yeah, that may be the best example.

CALLER: Some tolerance just like they’re expecting from us.

RUSH: Synagogue in Mecca. Right. Excellent point out there, Seth.

CALLER: Thank you.

RUSH: You bet. That’s Seth in Columbus, Ohio.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Now they told us, folks, that we had to get rid of Club Gitmo, we had to close Club Gitmo. Why? Because it was a recruiting tool for terrorists. Remember that? We were creating other terrorists just by going to Iraq and by having Club Gitmo open.
