RUSH: Steve, Jefferson, Wisconsin, great to have you on the EIB Network, sir. Hello.<\/p>\n

CALLER: The last day and a half and regarding to what Trump wants to do, you know, not letting people into this country that want to kill us is another example of the right: we can\u2019t, we can\u2019t, we can\u2019t. If you think back to the presidential debate when Kasich and the other Bush stood up there and told Trump, “Well, we can\u2019t deport all those people. We can\u2019t do this. We can\u2019t do that.” Well, because of the right “we can\u2019t” attitude is why we have Obamacare and all of the other things that the left and Obama and his minions have shoved down our throats because of the right “we can\u2019t.”<\/p>\n

RUSH: I think that\u2019s pretty conclusive, pretty encompassing, pretty well said. And it explains why Trump supporters are Trump supporters. Trump supporters — and, by the way, not just Trump supporters. A lot of people in this country are very alarmed at what is happening. This isn\u2019t right. This is not traditional America. There are serious challenges to what this country has always been underway. This country is under a major transformation into something it\u2019s never been, never intended to be.<\/line><\/p>\n

A lot of Americans are very, very worried about it, and he\u2019s right. When they listen to the Republican Party talk about stopping it, they say, “I can\u2019t. We can\u2019t do that. We can\u2019t stop illegals. We can\u2019t deport, we can\u2019t do anything. We can\u2019t stop Obamacare. We can\u2019t do that. We can\u2019t stop that. We can\u2019t not shut down the government. We can\u2019t do that.” And so this guy\u2019s saying the only natural thing to do, the only reasonable thing to do when the party you\u2019ve always supported is nothing but “we can\u2019t,” you go to somebody who says he will. You gravitate to somebody who says not only can we, he\u2019s going to.<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t hard to understand. The media and the Washington establishment want to chalk all of this up to a dangerous level of bigotry and racism in America, and that\u2019s not what explains this at all, not even close. What explains this is exactly what this guy said. A bunch of Americans who love their country, are afraid of losing it, and they\u2019re listening to the party they think should be the opposition party pushing back saying “we can\u2019t.” So why continue to support them?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, thank you so much for taking my call, Rush.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yes, ma\u2019am.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I wanted to get your opinion. Do you think it was any coincidence that Donald Trump yesterday comes out with his comments on Muslims so that he ensures that he dominates the media with his comments rather than Ted Cruz, who is now first in Iowa?<\/p>\n

RUSH: You know, you are very shrewd, because in the opening half hour of this program, I asked people to look at the politics of what Trump had done and what he had said. And I think you\u2019re exactly right. I don\u2019t know specifically that Trump said, “You know what? I have to say something crazy, I have to go out there and say, ‘You know what? We\u2019re gonna deport everybody.'” But I think, you know, Trump doesn\u2019t want to lose Iowa. And Cruz is surging. I mean, Cruz is really — that\u2019s another story I have in the Stack to get to later. Cruz is really surging in Iowa, I mean, big, to the point now that some in the professional political science world are opining Cruz could win it going away.<\/p>\n

Now, it\u2019s early. Sometimes things like that are the kiss of death, but it\u2019s not being widely said, just a couple of people have made the point of studying the data, which is just polling data right now. But I think your question is entirely possible. The answer to your question, yeah, it\u2019s entirely possible.<\/line><\/p>\n

CALLER: And it also prevents Donald Trump from attacking Ted Cruz, which Senator Cruz doesn\u2019t attack Donald Trump, and Donald Trump doesn\u2019t attack Senator Cruz, but it\u2019s kind of a way, a skillful way around it that he\u2019ll control the media so he doesn\u2019t get the attention to help his ratings.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, I\u2019ve got a guy waiting on hold here.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Thank you, sir.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, no, no, no. That was not to tell you to go away.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay, sir.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, no, no. I never would dismiss callers like that. I\u2019ve got a guy waiting to talk, he\u2019s mad at me. He thinks that Cruz is actually saying the stuff Trump says first but in a much less bombastic way and that Trump is stealing what Cruz is saying, and he\u2019s upset with me for not pointing that out.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, actually I have a thought on that, if I may, sir.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, you may.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I believe in November, mid-November, a little later in November after the Paris attacks, I believe Senator Cruz introduced a bill into the Senate, the content was approximately something that stated that he was going to, for three years, I believe was the time limit, he would pause the refugees coming into the country from hotbed areas so that until we could get and reassess that program three years later. So I think Senator Cruz had it first.<\/p>\n

RUSH: See?<\/p>\n

CALLER: I think it was right after the Paris attack, sir.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, I remember, I know what you\u2019re talking about. The Cruz people are also smart, folks, and they\u2019re paying attention, and they\u2019re very much aware of what\u2019s going on here. And as I needed to correct myself earlier, I\u2019m gonna say it again, Cruz is the only other person in politics who has not jumped in Trump\u2019s chili over this.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

This is Alan in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Great to have you, sir. Hello. <\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, hello, Rush. It\u2019s great to be on with you. I think you were referring to me on the last call you took. <\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, yes, I did. <\/p>\n

CALLER: I wouldn\u2019t say I was mad at you. I\u2019ve been a fan of yours for a very long time. I was just hearing you go on about Trump in your monologue and kind of lumping everybody else into the same bucket, but Cruz isn\u2019t in that same bucket, and you\u2019ve since clarified that, which I appreciate. But, you know, I\u2019m frustrated because Ted Cruz is the better candidate, but Trump is eating up media coverage which gets him a whole lot of legs. So I don\u2019t know if you have any suggestions as to how the Ted Cruz campaign can surpass that, but that — <\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay. So I understand now. I get it. You think that, given Trump and Cruz, it\u2019s automatic Cruz and why am I not coming out and saying so. And you think that if I did, it would help Cruz launch past Trump or anybody else. And, by the way, Alan, most people are mad at me most of the time. That\u2019s why I say it. I mean, it doesn\u2019t matter here, home, wherever, most people are mad at me, most people think I\u2019m doing something wrong most of the time. So I\u2019ve just been conditioned to think everybody\u2019s mad at me. ‘Cause most people usually are. So I apologize for lumping you in with the crowd. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s the same old thing here. I\u2019m standing back and observing. I don\u2019t endorse in primaries or any of this. I\u2019ve made a practice, Alan, never to tie myself too closely at all to people in politics \u2019cause I don\u2019t control \u2019em. It\u2019s experience guided by intelligence. It\u2019s better to be a couple steps removed until you really get to know somebody. I know both these guys. I know Trump pretty well. I know Cruz pretty well. I\u2019ve been in social circumstances with them both. I think you ought to be actually kind of buoyed. Cruz is coming on and he\u2019s doing it on his own. He\u2019s doing it on his own without media. I mean, he\u2019s earning it. It\u2019s real. It\u2019s not the result of buzz and PR. <\/p>\n

Cruz is coming on strong in Iowa right now. And yesterday I made this point. And I want to create the circumstance again. Let\u2019s jump forward to February 2nd, you know, Hawkeye Cauci February 1. Let\u2019s sit here and pretend Cruz wins it. Do you realize what February 2nd\u2019s gonna be like? It\u2019s gonna change everything. It\u2019s gonna change media perception, Republican Party perception. It\u2019s going to change everything. Right now everything\u2019s just theoretical. Right now everything is just polling data. That\u2019s all anything is, which is all the media cares about is the horse-race aspect of things. <\/p>\n

The Trump thing frustrates \u2019em \u2019cause they\u2019re not able to affect him one way or the other. If anything, they\u2019re making him more popular. They would want to be able to destroy him. They can\u2019t. The Washington establishment has been relying on the media to destroy Trump. They can\u2019t. They\u2019re frustrated as all get out. They focus on the horse race, the polls. Every time a new poll comes out, that\u2019s the news, and it may as well be what the election\u2019s gonna say that day, and they react to it as though that is the end result, when it isn\u2019t. We don\u2019t know what\u2019s gonna happen on Hawkeye Cauci day. <\/p>\n

But if Cruz actually wins that? He\u2019s the last person a month ago that anybody gave a prayer of winning. Carson a month ago was leading it, and Trump was starting to fade in Iowa. By the way, there\u2019s another poll out. The Monmouth poll yesterday had Cruz leading in Iowa. There\u2019s another poll that came out last night that shows Trump leading in Iowa. I got it here. I don\u2019t remember which specific poll it is. But just play the game. Cruz wins the Hawkeye Cauci. You can\u2019t imagine the panic that is going to set in in the Drive-By Media and the Republican Party. You think they hate Trump? <\/p>\n

One of the reasons why they are very worried about taking Trump out is that they fear it would lead to Cruz getting the nomination. And the Republican establishment is just apoplectic at that happening, because there, in Cruz, there is your thoroughbred conservative that nobody can outdebate, that nobody can outtalk, and they would be in utter panic. I would venture to say that the entire Washington establishment would much prefer Trump to Cruz. And you may have picked up on that as well. <\/p>\n

Now, what Cruz has said about Trump\u2019s plan — I finally have this here — he said, “I disagree with that proposal. I like Donald Trump. A lot of our friends here have encouraged me to criticize and attack Donald Trump, but I\u2019m not interested in doing so.” This was Cruz talking to reporters at a capitol press conference. He was there with the Texas governor Greg Abbott. And they were touting Cruz\u2019s own legislative offerings. He said, “I disagree with the proposal, but I\u2019m not gonna sit here and pile on Trump.” So that\u2019s his way of dealing with this. Clearly Cruz does not want to alienate Trump voters. The rest of the Republican Party apparently doesn\u2019t care if they do. And I\u2019m up against it on time again here. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
