CALLER: Thank you, Rush. How are you today?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Pretty good. Pretty good. Thank you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I just wanted to talk to you about your Rush Revere series<\/a>. We went out — me and my wife went out — and bought all three of them. And my son has dyslexia, and he just… I\u2019ve never been able to get him to read anything, so I kind of bribed him. I made him a deal: If he read just one, then I would get him an iPhone or whatever I could find cheaper.<\/p>\n

RUSH: How old is your son?<\/p>\n

CALLER: He\u2019s 11.<\/p>\n

<\/a>RUSH: And you pro…? Wow. At 11. That\u2019s cool.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah, he doesn\u2019t… It\u2019s like prying teeth to get him to read anything. So, you know, but he wants that. So he read the book. What\u2019s great about it is I never asked him to read another one. I never bribed him to read another one. I never said anything about another book, I never mentioned it, and he\u2019s actually reading them on his own. He just goes to his room, spends an hour or two a day reading.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Is that right? That is just… Well, you\u2019re tugging at my heartstrings here.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Actually, it tugged at mine. I get goosebumps when I even think about it. He\u2019s just… It\u2019s amazing that something has got him interested enough to actually want to do it because it —<\/p>\n

RUSH: What was —<\/p>\n

CALLER: It gives him a headache to even read, so —<\/p>\n

RUSH: What was the primary manifestation, problem for him, with dyslexia? What was it about reading that frustrated him?<\/p>\n

CALLER: He just… It just takes too long. You know what I\u2019m saying? It just takes him too long.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Too long, too much patience, too much concentration?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Exactly. The way he explains it to me, is he\u2019s gotta read the sentence two or three times to understand it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, you tell him I have to do that every day with half the stuff I read — and I don\u2019t have dyslexia — just to make sure I understand it.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (laughing)<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, I\u2019m not kidding. I read an essay by Henry Kissinger. I had to read every paragraph four times yesterday.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Wow. (laughing) That\u2019s dedication.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, not every paragraph, but pretty much. Pretty much. No, no, you… Anyway, that\u2019s one of the greatest compliments that we have received.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah. I just wanted to thank you for helping me figure out how to get him interested.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, has he now read all three?<\/p>\n

CALLER: No. He\u2019s actually in the middle of the second one right now, but we have the third one waiting on him.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, let me tell you. We\u2019ve got the fourth one that\u2019s in pre-order right now, Rush Revere and the Star-Spangled Banner<\/a>. And it is going… It\u2019s rivaling Star Wars out there for pre-order interest.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Wow!<\/p>\n

RUSH: I\u2019m not making it up. It\u2019s rivaling Star Wars in interest factor, and it actually hits the streets on the 27th of October. But I would like to send him one —<\/p>\n

CALLER: That would be great.<\/p>\n

RUSH: — when it comes out, and also the audio version. I record the audio version, so you tell him that for those moments when he just gets exhausted reading, he can plug in a CD and listen to me read it. And he can take a break from reading and he can stop whenever he wants and go back to it.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I definitely will.<\/p>\n

RUSH: What kind of iPhone did he get?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, actually I\u2019m in the process. I\u2019m still looking for the best deal, so —<\/p>\n

RUSH: But that\u2019s a big buy for a kid. An 11-year-old to get an iPhone, that\u2019s huge.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I have a line, but he doesn\u2019t have a phone. I don\u2019t… I\u2019ve been… My wife\u2019s been on me, she wants him to have one. I\u2019m not a big fan, but I have an extra line, so I kind of made him a deal, so I\u2019m gonna go with the deal. Obviously there will be restrictions, but —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Let me tell you what to get. Let me tell you what to get. I\u2019ll help you here. You can get an iPhone 5S probably for no money down on a contract, and it\u2019s a four-inch screen. It\u2019s small; he\u2019s 11. It be perfect for him. It runs the latest operation system. It\u2019s a great, great phone. It was top of the line when it was out. It\u2019s a couple years old now. But it would be ideal and it wouldn\u2019t cost you any money up front. I think it\u2019s their free phone when you buy it on contract. I think that\u2019s right.<\/line><\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay.<\/p>\n

RUSH: But, anyway, I want you to hang on here because I want to send you the fourth book the moment I have it in my hands. Well, I do have one in my hands, but I only have one. You know, I meant to bring it in today and wave it in front of the Dittocam and I got in a hurry so I didn\u2019t bring it in. It\u2019s a great, great cover. We\u2019re just so excited about these things, and your story about your dyslexic son who actually has been made to like reading because of these? I can\u2019t tell you how that makes our heart sing.<\/p>\n
