CALLER: Mr. Limbaugh.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Sir.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I cannot believe I\u2019m actually talking to you after all this time.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, here you are. Glad you made it through.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Me, too. Quick and to the point: Mitt Romney, Speaker of the House.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah?<\/p>\n

CALLER: I believe that he would be a wonderful speaker. I called this when I heard Boehner was backing out, I told my mother about it. He\u2019s ethical. He\u2019s honest. You can\u2019t bullrush this guy. We know what the media is gonna do to him.<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH: Right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: When he comes out and they\u2019re gonna call him a loser, they\u2019re gonna call him a has-been, yada yada yada. But he would be ethical. I don\u2019t see how anybody can\u2019t see that, but of course, I\u2019m not a liberal.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Nobody… Well, now, wait, wait, wait, wait just a second. You have forgotten. Mitt Romney stood idly by while a man once in his employ\u2019s wife died, and Romney didn\u2019t care. And Romney didn\u2019t pay his taxes for ten years. And Romney put the family dog on the roof of the station wagon on family vacation for two weeks, where it got thirsty and sweaty. (Well, dogs don\u2019t sweat.) Heat and everything else! Romney\u2019s a mean guy. He doesn\u2019t pay his taxes, and he\u2019s heartless. A woman died.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, bypass all that, but he\u2019s still a good guy. (laughing)<\/p>\n

RUSH: (laughing) No, it is just what the media said about him last time.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah, they tried to crucify him, and they\u2019ll do it again.<\/p>\n

RUSH: They didn\u2019t “try.” They did.<\/p>\n

CALLER: You\u2019re right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I mean, the bottom line is that they did. You know, by the way, Paul Ryan\u2019s name surfaced in this… What do you want to call this? This fight, this quest, whatever it was. (laughing) It was looking like Ryan might have a chance at this, at speaker of the House. Now, some people would not have been happy about it because, hey, it\u2019s gotten tough there. A lot of people think Paul Ryan has sold out. His original… (interruption) Yeah, he may be thinking about it but his chance just went up in smoke.<\/line><\/p>\n

Because he got the coveted endorsement of Luis Gutierrez! Now, Luis Gutierrez… For those of you who don\u2019t know, Luis Gutierrez is Mr. Amnesty in the House. He\u2019s a Democrat from Chicago. And he\u2019s already. (laughing) He\u2019s been greasing the skids for Obama\u2019s executive amnesty for, well, almost a year now. He\u2019s been getting the preparatory work done. He\u2019s one of the biggest supporters of amnesty for illegals in the country. He is militant on it. He\u2019s been vocal; he\u2019s been demanding it.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s even getting on Obama\u2019s case for dragging his feet about it. So, Paul Ryan\u2019s name gets floated — is in the mix — and, jey, you know what? Paul might do it. “Yeah, this could happen. I might want to do this.” He starts getting some momentum, and here comes Luis Gutierrez. “Oh, man, Paul Ryan? That\u2019s exactly what this place needs.” Thud. Thud. (laughing) That\u2019s the last thing he needs is the endorsement of Luis Gutierrez. Can we…? Let\u2019s take this a different direction. You know, in addition to this race for the speakership going on, there\u2019s also a presidential primary taking place.<\/p>\n

And the leaders of the presidential primary have about as much in common with the people in the establishment that want to be speaker as you and I have with the Bosnians. So given that Trump and Carson and Fiorina are in the top tier of Republican presidential candidates, what happens in the House? What is it that happens in the House that strengthens, say, Trump? What would be something that would help the Trump campaign in this House speaker race? (interruption) No, no, no. The exact opposite.<\/p>\n

How about what I\u2019m hearing now, that Boehner may stay on longer than what he said, given the problems they\u2019re having coming up with a credible replacement? Well, the more Boehner stays, what does Boehner represent to people? “Status quo, no good, gotta get off of this.” Boehner represents the problem. That gives Trump added strength. It helps Trump solidify what he\u2019s running against, within his own party and elsewhere. It gives Trump the opportunity — and Fiorina and Carson at the same time.<\/p>\n

It helps them further identify as not members of this club in Washington that can\u2019t shoot straight. If, on the other hand, the House speakership would happen to go to, say, conservative outsider member of the Conservative Caucus, I don\u2019t know that it would necessarily hurt Trump. But could you agree that in terms of the Republican presidential campaign, a Milquetoast speaker helps them? Or am I suffering still the ravaging of this virus and not thinking straight? (interruption) I may have a point, right? I could be wrong about this.<\/line><\/p>\n

I should have added a caveat to this program, and that is anything I say today I get a chance to withdraw on Monday. (interruption) No, I don\u2019t take cold medicine, because it doesn\u2019t work, once they got rid of Zicam. That\u2019s the only thing that worked for me, and once they got rid of those swabs… NyQuil, that stuff, I just feel drugged up for long after the stuff is supposed to stop working. So no, I just deal with it. I don\u2019t think there is any common cold or fever medicine out there, flu. I mean, this is not a…<\/p>\n

Whatever it is, it\u2019s a virus. There\u2019s no cure for it. You just have to endure it. And any medicine that suppresses the symptoms, they don\u2019t work on me. So, as a result, I may not be 100% focued here even though I think I am. So I\u2019m gonna assert now the privilege of revising and extending my remarks on Monday anything I say today.
