RUSH: My brother, who is easily reachable<\/a> where I am not, my brother received an e-mail yesterday from Jack Phillips, who owns Masterpiece Cakeshop, and here\u2019s the e-mail. I just want to read it to you.<\/p>\n

“My sister tells me that you are the brother of Rush. I\u2019m terribly sorry.” He didn\u2019t say that. I just threw that in there. “My sister tells me that you are the brother of Rush. I\u2019ve been trying to alert Rush that he\u2019s reporting erroneous news regarding my bakery\u2019s closing. We have been open continuously since 1993. I know that this may not be your line of work –” this is to my brother now “– but if you could contact Rush and straighten this out I would greatly appreciate it, though I can\u2019t repay you in any way. This can all be verified by checking the shop\u2019s website.” He gives the link, “using the phone, e-mail on the website and contacting me personally. If you can\u2019t do it, that\u2019s okay, but I want you to know.”<\/p>\n

<\/a>So my brother sent me the note and I said, “I\u2019ll fix it.” I\u2019m happy to know the guy didn\u2019t lose his bakeshop, and I started to wonder why did I get confused on this, because I know the photography business got shut down in New Mexico. I thought the bakery did, too, but it didn\u2019t, so that\u2019s excellent.<\/p>\n

Now, there\u2019s more news on the Indiana story today involving Arkansas. Arkansas, despite what\u2019s going on in Indiana, was prepared to do their version of the same law, and then their governor went on TV (paraphrasing), “Nah-nah-nah-nah, no, no, no. We are going to tweak ours in light of what\u2019s happening in Indiana, and we will have a little bit different flavor to our law.”<\/p>\n

So that\u2019s the latest. And the media, they were ready to pounce on Arkansas. They were lining up. They were lining up the guns and the ammo to go after Arkansas if Arkansas decided to mirror whatever they think the Indiana law is.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

You know, this may be the source of my confusion on the bakery business. This is a story from October 2nd of last year. It is at ChristianPost.com, and the headline is: “Christian Couple Forced to Close Bakery Due to Gay Activism May Face Over $150K in Damages — Oregon couple Aaron and Melissa Klein were forced to close their bakery after declining to bake a wedding cake for a lesbian marriage ceremony and are now facing the threat of having to pay $150,000 in damages.<\/p>\n

“Seated next to his wife at a panel on marriage at the Values Voter Summit on Friday,” that\u2019s always in Washington every fall, “Aaron talked about their faith and what Melissa\u2019s bakery meant to her before they had to shut down their business. ‘The boycotting, the harassment. I mean, quite frankly, they didn\u2019t just harass us they harassed the other wedding vendors that we did business with,\u2019 Aaron told the audience… ‘It cut off our referral system, we had to shut the shop down. …<\/p>\n

“‘We were facing in excess of $150,000 in damages for this, just for simply standing by my First Amendment rights. I can\u2019t say it more forcefully,\u2019 Aaron continued, ‘what it came down to was that [my wife] has a God-given talent to create a work of art to celebrate a union between two people,'” and they didn\u2019t want to make it for this gay wedding, and so they had to shut down the bakery. I knew there was a bakery had been shut down. I just got it wrong.<\/p>\n

It was not the bakery in Colorado.<\/p>\n
