CALLER: How are you?<\/p>\n

RUSH: I\u2019m great. Thank you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Gosh, they say it\u2019s really nerve-racking, and it is. I just wanted to thank you for the two books — or the three books. I haven\u2019t gotten the third book yet. My daughter has read the first two, and she came to me and asked me, “Who is this guy that wrote the book?”<\/p>\n

RUSH: (laughing)<\/p>\n

CALLER: So I said, “Okay, let\u2019s go on the Internet,” and so now she\u2019s reading See, I Told You So.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Wait a minute. How old is she? Your daughter is 10?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes. She\u2019s 10.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/map>\n<\/p>\n

RUSH: And your daughter is reading See, I Told You So?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes. We just got it, and she has it, and I said, “Okay, then you need to do a report to me on it on who you think he is,” \u2019cause I listen to you all the time and she hears you on the radio. She\u2019s a Rush Baby.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: And she absolutely loves the first two books. You did an awesome job, you and Kathryn, because behind every good man there\u2019s a woman.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, behind every good man there\u2019s a surprised woman.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (laughing) So I wanted to thank Kathryn, too, for having a part in making these books.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, let me tell you: It was Kathryn who said that we needed to include the plot device in the new book of Cam, whose father gets deployed to Afghanistan and he doesn\u2019t understand it. Because it\u2019s something that afflicts… That\u2019s a bad word. That\u2019s something that happens to all military families. <\/p>\n

They\u2019re kids. Even though they understand what mom and dad do when they get deployed, they haven\u2019t been able to come to grips with they\u2019re gone so long. You know, they\u2019re young kids. They want to be the apple of the eye. They want to be the focus of attention, and mom and dad are gone for so long. So it was Kathryn\u2019s idea to add that, because we wanted to dedicate this book to the military and tribute the book to them. <\/p>\n

And it was a brilliant, brilliant decision because we were able to combine something very real in the modern day, and also that happened in American history with the time travels back to the Revolution. That\u2019s where Cam learns it is time traveling back in American history. And for your daughter, this is just great. To me, it\u2019s cute “Mom, who is this guy?” She loves these books but has no idea who\u2019s writing them other than some voice on the radio.<\/p>\n

CALLER: She loves the characters and everything about it, and I do want to say this…<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, hang on. I gotta take a break. Ah, ah, ah, ah! I gotta say take a break; it doesn\u2019t move. So don\u2019t hang up.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, back to Caroline in Yakima, Washington. You said you wanted to say one more thing.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes, I did. Not just the military kids are getting the benefit of this, it\u2019s the other kids too because they go to school with these kids. They know that their fathers are gone and their mothers are gone, and they hurt for them, too. <\/p>\n

RUSH: A-ha. You know what? That\u2019s an excellent point. Sometimes the way kids are, they can make fun of kids in that situation as well, in addition to empathizing with them.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Exactly. So this is a teaching tool, and I wanted to thank you very much. It cost me a little bit of money but, you know, it was well worth it.<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, that\u2019s what I was gonna say, it\u2019s not that expensive, and it\u2019s —<\/p>\n

CALLER: No.<\/p>\n

RUSH: — it\u2019s worth so much more than what you —<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes.<\/p>\n

RUSH: — paid for it.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Come on, now, you\u2019re not complaining, are you? <\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019m not.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I know you\u2019re not. Look, what is your daughter\u2019s name, first name?<\/p>\n
