RUSH: Have you heard the latest attempt against Cory Gardner in Colorado? I mean, it\u2019s so bad, the Democrats are running commercials saying that he wants to ban condoms. I\u2019m not kidding you. He\u2019s only one of the guys that suggested making birth control available over-the-counter without a prescription to blunt this silly War on Women thing. Udall, his opponent, is simply repeating things. Udall, I don\u2019t even think his mind is in the can. He\u2019s a walking, talking robot. <\/p>\n

So while Gardner is talking about making birth control available over-the-counter, Udall is, for two weeks after that, still talking on this War on Women meme looking like he\u2019s not even conscious. So they\u2019re flailing away. Their latest attempt here is to suggest that Cory Gardner wants to ban condoms. That\u2019s how opposed to contraception the Republicans are. (laughing) I mean, the sad thing is there are gonna be some Democrats in Colorado that believe it, but I don\u2019t think anywhere near enough. But they\u2019re looking for anything, and they think they found me. (laughing)<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: It\u2019s a NARAL ad. It\u2019s a National Abortion Rights Action League ad that suggests Cory Gardner\u2019s gonna totally ban condoms in Colorado. You know, I joked not long ago — and how many times have we joked the Democrats would eventually claim Republicans are trying to outlaw sex, and, lo and behold, this is what this is trying to say. This War on Women thing is blowing up in their face in Colorado. <\/p>\n

See, here\u2019s the thing. Everything\u2019s a script. The Democrat campaign is a script. Just like the Thad Cochran campaign was a script on our side. There is a script. There are issues they think are winning issues. One of them is the War on Women. They\u2019ve got their candidate, the robot Udall, and he\u2019s out articulating whatever is written for him that they put in front of him to say. He doesn\u2019t have enough knowledge to pivot when real-world events change, and so he gets caught in this robotic speech making when he\u2019s two weeks behind the times. This is happening to a lot of Democrats because they\u2019ve got these key issues: the race card, the War on Women, Hispanic vote, black, race, whatever it is, that all of their candidates are out articulating in identical ways. <\/line><\/p>\n

When it blows up, as it\u2019s blowing up, they don\u2019t have the ability to improvise. They don\u2019t have the ability to pivot and adjust to what is going wrong. Their arrogance is such, they think it\u2019s worked every time it\u2019s been tried in the past, it\u2019ll continue to work this time, because they think that they have successfully persuaded the American people that the Republicans are whatever it is they\u2019re accusing them of being. What has happened in the midst of this is people are starting to see the Democrats in I think a more truthful way, and the Democrats are not accustomed to this kind of scrutiny and thus don\u2019t know how to deal with it. <\/p>\n

They certainly are not accustomed to media scrutiny. They don\u2019t know how to deal with challenges, overcoming obstacles, dealing with adversity. That\u2019s not part of their life experience. Not the way Republicans have to do it. Not the way we conservatives have to do it. I mean, we have to overcome adversity every day. Our adversity every day is the media. Our adversity every day is the Democrat Party. They don\u2019t have any adversity. They get their way. They have their sycophant, slavish media. They have all of their supporters that do whatever\u2019s necessary to do to castigate. <\/p>\n

They never talk about how great they are. They always talk about how damaging and dangerous the Republicans are, how stupid they are. And when that doesn\u2019t work, when their attempts to paint the Republicans as something they\u2019re not, when that doesn\u2019t work they end up being kind of lost. They\u2019re not invincible, folks. They put their pants on one leg at a time like everybody else does. The Democrat Party\u2019s not invincible. It can be beat. They\u2019re not smarter than everybody else; they\u2019re not more strategic; they\u2019re not better planned; they\u2019re none of this. They are rigid and locked. And if their plan goes awry, if their game plan goes off-kilter, they don\u2019t know what to do to recover, and that\u2019s where they find themselves now. <\/line><\/p>\n

That\u2019s how you end up with an ad accusing a Republican candidate for the Senate of wanting to ban condoms. How do you get there? Well, you get there if your effort to portray this guy as somebody who wants to deny women birth control pills and abortions bombs out. See, their problem is they get locked into this strategy, this belief, this attempt to characterize Republicans as whatever. In this case, anti-women, War on Women. Well, Cory Gardner and Thom Tillis, North Carolina, have both thrown a monkey wrench in the Democrat plans, and they still haven\u2019t figured out how to do anything with it other than lie about it. <\/p>\n

They have both said that they think contraception should be available over-the-counter now<\/a>. You shouldn\u2019t have to have a prescription for it. That is ultimate freedom for women. Contraception, I mean it\u2019s everywhere. Nobody\u2019s opposed to it. The Republicans are not opposed to it. This War on Women thing got started, you\u2019ll recall, with a question Stephanopoulos asked Mitt Romney in a Republican primary debate in January of 2008. It\u2019s been phony from the get-go. The Republicans just haven\u2019t known how to deal with it. <\/p>\n

Their first mistake was thinking nobody would believe it. War on Women, us? We\u2019re married. We have kids. What do you mean? We date. We philander. We do everything everybody else does. What do you mean, War on Women? But single women who depend on government apparently bought into it and believed it, and they believed these Republicans are a bunch of guys running around that want to deny them the freedom to have sex and have babies. They don\u2019t want \u2019em to have babies. They don\u2019t want \u2019em to contracept \u2019em or abort them, so the Democrats been playing on that. <\/line><\/p>\n

So here comes Thom Tillis and here comes Cory Gardner: Hey, you know what, we think contraception ought to be available over-the-counter. That nukes any attempts the Democrats make. Rather than drop it, which would be the smart thing, rather drop it and move on and maybe say, “You know what, we welcome Cory Gardner\u2019s arrival to reality.” If your campaign is made up of put-downs, come up with a put-down based on this guy being late to the party. But, no, they\u2019re not giving it up. They can\u2019t. They don\u2019t know how. They don\u2019t know what else to do, other than stick to their stupid script, and so that\u2019s how you get a campaign that says Gardner wants to ban condoms. <\/p>\n
