RUSH: Andy McCarthy, a good friend of mine, has a book out called Faithless Execution. It\u2019s about the impeachment of Obama. In fact, wasn\u2019t it said by some Democrat — I forget who — “If Obama does this again –” after the Bergdahl thing<\/a> — or maybe it was some Republican who said it, was it Lindsey Graham? “If he does this again, we\u2019re gonna impeach him.” Drawing our own red lines. And Andy, in his book, makes the point that we have long ago crossed the legal threshold for impeachment.<\/p>\n

<\/a>It\u2019s clear that the legal threshold has been met, but there is no political will to do it. And without that, it is a waste of time, if you don\u2019t have the political will. Meaning, if the Republican Party doesn\u2019t have the gonads, and if the American people are not desirous of it, then it\u2019s just whistling into the wind. It\u2019s something irrelevant.<\/p>\n

Now, Paul Bedard, writing here at the Washington Examiner: “Despite anger in many quarters of the nation over the president\u2019s prisoner swap, Republicans are backing off impeachment threats because they fear it would rally President Obama\u2019s Democratic base and kill the GOP\u2019s chances to win the Senate. … A top Republican aide added, ‘that is an accurate assessment. The Democrats are divided on so many issues right now there\u2019s no reason to give them a reason to rally.'”<\/p>\n

So it isn\u2019t gonna happen<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: To Salem, Oregon. Jerry, great to have you on the program, sir. Hello.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, good morning, Mr. Limbaugh. Or is it good afternoon in your neck of the woods?<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s exactly right, sir. Thank you for the calling.<\/p>\n

CALLER: You know, this prisoner exchange thing? The saddest thing about war is that men die for their country. And when you accede to ransom demands, you\u2019re just making a super slap in the face of every person who\u2019s died for this country, and to me it\u2019s intolerable. I don\u2019t understand why people aren\u2019t discussing giving aid and comfort to the enemy. That is treason, and George Washington literally hung people for such a thing. I don\u2019t get it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, people are discussing it, but what do you want whom to do?<\/line><\/p>\n

CALLER: What do I want who to do?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, or whom do you want to do what?<\/p>\n

CALLER: I would like to see the people of this country and the Republican leadership show a backbone. Impeachment would be letting Obama off easy, and even if there\u2019s no political will, the right thing to do is the right thing to do — not because you win or lose, but because it is the right thing to do — and impeaching him is the right thing to do.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, I can tell you right now that the Republicans are not gonna do it.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (unintelligible)<\/p>\n

RUSH: The Republicans have got themselves convinced that they\u2019re gonna win the Senate right now. They\u2019re gonna hold the House. They\u2019ve convinced themselves. Hell, even Nate Silver says they\u2019re gonna win the Senate. It\u2019s tight, but they think they\u2019re gonna win the Senate. They are literally paranoid of doing anything that they think might reassemble and reinvigorate the Obama base.<\/p>\n

To them it\u2019s about winning, and it\u2019s about themselves getting control of the purse strings and reinserting themselves in power. Now, there\u2019s a story by Ron Fournier who has really, in recent weeks… I don\u2019t know what the term is. I was gonna say dumping on Obama, and I guess that\u2019s as close as anything to what it is. But his piece today is: “‘I\u2019ve Had Enough.\u2019 When Democrats Quit on Obama,” and it\u2019s not about Fournier.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s another Democrat talking to him, who said that he\u2019s just had it. This Bergdahl swap, that\u2019s just the last straw, but not because of the swap itself. “The tipping point for this person was the Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl case [and] how the White House mishandled its obligation to communicate effectively and honestly to Congress and the public. More than that, Obama\u2019s team had failed once again to acknowledge its mistakes, preferring to cast blame and seek cover behind talking points,” and the parents.<\/p>\n

So even though there is a credible bit of evidence that more and more Democrats… Oh, about the Fournier piece. One thing needs to be pointed out. Even the Democrats in this piece who say that they have had it, that this is a tipping point and they are finally they\u2019re moving away from Obama, still go to great pains to say they like and respect him. So you have to temper all this.<\/p>\n

See, I think you have to be careful. It\u2019s very seductive to see a story that says Democrats are abandoning Obama. They\u2019re not. They\u2019re not gonna abandon Obama especially if it means Republicans winning anything. There\u2019s about as fat a chance of that happening as the media converting and becoming supporters of conservatives and Republicans. That isn\u2019t going to happen, either.<\/p>\n

The Democrats are not going to abandon Obama. Why are they upset that he lied to them? He lies to all of them. Well, it\u2019s because in this case the press didn\u2019t provide any cover. So the lie is exposed. They have to react to it. Nobody\u2019s out there saying, “Obama didn\u2019t lie. Obama didn\u2019t do anything wrong.” So they have to go on record as disapproving of this. If anything, it is indicative of where the Democrats still think the country\u2019s bread and butter is.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not extreme liberalism. I mean, if you\u2019ve got a Democrat who… Even with an election coming, if you\u2019ve got an elected Democrat who thinks there are points to be gained or ground to be gained by distancing himself from Obama, what are you saying? You\u2019re saying this country\u2019s not gone yet. I still maintain that we\u2019re being governed (or ruled, if you will) by a really small minority. There are just little bits of evidence here and there that prove it.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes. Thank you, Rush. It\u2019s an honor and a privilege to talk with you.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I appreciate that. Thank you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I would like to point out one more of about a billion examples of hypocrisy coming out of the administration. If they\u2019re encouraging these people to come across the border illegally or undocumentedly, there\u2019s a couple points about this. Number one, the amount of risk that people are taking to do so. I mean, they\u2019re dealing with coyotes and human traffickers.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: They\u2019re probably dealing with drug cartels. These are not bright, upstanding people that work in the embassy. Second of all, in these countries like Mexico or others with a dismal record on human rights, it\u2019s really more or less encouraging them to continue their policies instead of having people point out to them that they\u2019re doing something wrong.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Who\u2019s doing something wrong?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, if you have an administration that says, “Hey, you\u2019re violating human rights in your country,” you know, there\u2019s a force behind that. The United States can take action against that, whether it\u2019s sanctions or just using the bully pulpit to work with them and try to make a difference, encouraging people within their own country to say, “Hey, you should be living at a better standard.”<\/p>\n

RUSH: You think…? Wait a minute. I don\u2019t want to sound critical, but you think the Obama administration gonna do that?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, no. They wouldn\u2019t. But I\u2019m saying they can\u2019t do it now. That\u2019s total, total hypocrisy, them being unable to bring any points up.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, hypocrisy never stopped them from doing anything, but they\u2019re not gonna do it because they don\u2019t think we\u2019ve got the moral authority to tell anybody else about human rights because we violate them so much.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
