RUSH: Wendy, Traverse City, Michigan. Welcome to the program.
CALLER: Hey, Rush. It’s such an honor to speak with you.
RUSH: Thank you.
CALLER: This is something that’s kind of difficult to express, because I’ve been wanting to tell you this a long time. You’re almost nailing it all the time about why we’ve been denying the reality of the danger against us for so long.
RUSH: Yeah.
CALLER: And I’m thinking that the left is talking like they’re afraid and they feel vulnerable, and I feel like the answer lies in the fact that they feel helpless because fear can either leave you feeling helpless and powerless, or paralyzed in your fear, or if you turn around and face and do something about it, you can feel empowered by it, and what Bush is doing is an empowering kind of thing. We’re going to do something about this problem. But if you actually look at doing something about the problem, there’s a lot of sacrifice and there’s a lot of risk and danger involved.
RUSH: Oh, yeah.
CALLER: — always say about how, you know, we’re going to sacrifice — I lost my train of thought.
RUSH: No, no. What you’re saying is this. I’m an expert on trains of thought, so let me pick yours up. I know exactly where you were going. What you were saying is, that when you as a citizen decide to accept the reality that there’s a threat out there, then it’s almost a call to arms. You’ve got to face it and do something about it. You don’t have the luxury of burying your head in the sandbox and pretending it’ll just go away or is not really that bad. It takes a lot of evidence for people to make that change. Let’s face it. We got a pretty affluent country here. Life is pretty good despite what Democrats want to try to tell us about it, and, “Why get on a warpath over something that hasn’t happened here in five years, Rush? Come on, man! We’ve gotta enjoy ourselves out there.” and so it’s just easier, which is where your train of thought was headed.
CALLER: Also, how the liberals don’t want to believe in our military and our empowerment that way. And I think they feel helpless towards actually recognizing the dangers, so they take it out on Bush because that makes them feel empowered.
RUSH: Now, the Democrats have — look, there is a psychosis to liberalism, and that is the belief that the US military and the Pentagon is the focus of evil in the modern world, except of course when they’re in charge of it — even then it’s ‘s not viewed with that much respect, especially when they put their own people in there as generals and colonels to run the damn thing. It’s an absolute mess. I hate thinking about it. But right now they’re in pure political mode. For example, let me give you an example. This is AP today from our old buddy Tom Raum. “President Bush is casting the war on global terrorism as the central issue of the midterm elections but it’s a risky political strategy.” This is where they misunderstand Bush. It’s an issue and it is a pressing issue that faces this country. It’s what my brilliant CBS commentary was all about. It’s a political strategy to the Democrats who think they might lose because of it, and why is that? Because they’re on the wrong side of the issue! It is an issue. National security is an issue. When national security becomes a political strategic item, we are cooked.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: You know, ladies and gentlemen, you’ve heard me say over many, many moons of this exciting broadcast, wouldn’t it be great if the Democrats were as interested in defeating terrorists and our enemies as they are in defeating Bush? You can ask it again now. Wouldn’t it be great if they were as interested in defeating their enemies and terrorists as they are in defeating this movie on ABC?
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: By the way, if ABC caves, if Robert Iger caves on this Path to 9/11, what do you think it’s going to do to Republican turnout in November? What do you think? Do you think it will be forgotten by then? It could go both ways. It could really, really fire people up and make ’em mad or it’s the kind of thing where they’ll say, “You know, this is pointless. We can’t beat these people. It’s outrageous,” blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I really choose the former. I think it’ll gin turnout like the Democrats can’t believe, and this letter threatening ABC’s license for their owned and operated television stations, pure Stalinist tactic.
