RUSH: The KSM trial. You know, this is funny. When Holder first announced this, remember, now; he said (paraphrased), ‘I’m doing this. The president didn’t know. It was my decision totally.’ Obama said, ‘It was his decision. I’m all for it. We want a show trial up there, ’cause what we really want to do is have some international tribunals charge Bush and Cheney officials with high crimes and misdemeanors in an international court for war crimes.’ Mayor Bloomberg said, ‘Yeah! Bring it on, baby,’ because they thought there’d be a great impact here. Then they discovered that there’d be $200 million a year security and businesses in the area and so forth had no desire for it, and then the big reason: The Kennedy seat was lost, and Chuck-U Schumer said, ‘I ain’t losing my seat. Move the trial,’ and he had Bloomberg do it. So the White House is now looking for a new place to put their show trial.

RUSH: The place for the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed: Washington, DC. Put it in Washington, DC, ladies and gentlemen. New York City is out. Washington. That’s the place. Eric Holder and Obama could drive by the circus show trial every day, take credit for their handiwork, and stimulate spending with $200 million a year in security costs for Washington, DC. (claps) Yeah, baby! That’s where you put it.

Now, the New York delegation in Congress, they got some good news today when they learned that Obama and Eric Holder are indeed looking at an alternative place to hold the Khalid Sheikh Mohammed trial. Again, Detroit or Washington are the two places I would go. Detroit would be much better chance for a jury of his peers. In Washington, Holder and Obama could drive by the trial every day and check out the $200 million a year in security. In Detroit, even if some terrorist blew some things up, depending on where they did it, you wouldn’t know. So that’s another reason for maybe considering Detroit for this. But the New York delegation got some bad news, and this is in the New York Daily News: ‘The Obama administration stunned New York’s delegation Thursday, dropping the bombshell news that it does not support funding the 9/11 health bill.

‘The state’s two senators,’ that would be Chuck-U Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, ‘and 14 House members met with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius just hours before President Obama implored in his [State of Obama] speech to the nation for Congress to come together and deliver a government that delivers on its promises to the American people. ‘So the legislators were floored to learn the Democratic administration does not want to deliver for the tens of thousands of people who sacrificed after 9/11, and the untold numbers now getting sick. I was stunned — and very disappointed,’ said Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who, like most of the other legislators, had expected more of a discussion on how to more forward. To say the least, I was flabbergasted,’ said Staten Island Rep. Mike McMahon.”

The story goes on to record how furious these people are. The administration is talking about improving and revamping health care, and they have stopped funding for the 9/11 health care bill. So look at this. This is ‘bombshell news’ to the New York delegation. First Obama does an Air Force One flyby over New York City that scared the bejeezus out of people. Even the people at Goldman Sachs were scared. Probably the best theory going around is that was a donor flight, that some of the big donors were being shown a trip over the Statue of Liberty in New York in Air Force One at a low cruising attitude and they forgot to tell in New York for security reasons because they were afraid somebody might shoot it down. So they just didn’t tell anybody Air Force One was going to be there. So you do it then you rub a lot salt in New Yorkers’ wounds over 9/11. Then he tries to jam the Khalid Sheikh Mohammed trial down their throat, and now this. The article closes with a bang. In the last line of the story: ‘Health and Human Services officials and the White House did not have an immediate response’ to demands from the New York delegation for an explanation.

RUSH: Here’s Matt, Grand Rapids, Michigan, you’re first in this hour and it’s great to have you with us.

CALLER: Hey mega dittos, Rush, from global warming, 18-degree Grand Rapids.

RUSH: Thank you very much.

CALLER: Freezing here. I could use some of that global warming. I’m calling because I don’t know if you realize what a gift you’ve given to the administration and the Democrats in your recommendation to hold the KSM trial in DC.

RUSH: Or Detroit.

CALLER: Yeah.

RUSH: What do you like about DC?

CALLER: Well, what I like about the DC area is politically it would be a gift to the Democrats especially going into the November election because they don’t have any representation in Congress. There’s no senators or congressman, so it would be truly be a neutral venue. It would be perfect.

RUSH: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. I’ve had a long week. I’m not getting much sleep because I’m up late but you say there are not any Democrats in Washington?

CALLER: No, no. The District isn’t represented in Congress.

RUSH: Oh.

CALLER: So…

RUSH: Oh. Oh. Oh. So nobody can lose their job if Washington gets hit?

CALLER: Yes, and it’s the only place the trial could possibly be. I think you’ve shown genuine outreach to the administration.

RUSH: Look, I’m always willing to help.

CALLER: (laughs)

RUSH You got that right. Well, but look: You’ve got a great idea here and I applaud your thought but there’s one thing I don’t have to point on you approximately they do have an advocate, a nonvoting delegate. It’s Eleanor Holmes Norton. So they do have somebody in there but she doesn’t get to vote. You’re right. … The reason for DC is that Obama and Holder… If you’re going to dole out federal money, give it to DC. The place needs it and it’s $200 million for security for the trial. They’ve got federal courthouses there. They have a big circuit there and Holder’s right there. He could monitor the trial, go in there every day, make sure that the prosecutors are doing exactly what he wants: Prosecuting it in a way so that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed gets a big soapbox to really dump all over Bush and Cheney so that these wild idiots over in Europe at the international court could maybe bring war crimes charges against Bush and Cheney, which is what they want. The other place to do it is Detroit. This is my second idea. Because in our system, judicial system, folks, one of the requirements, one of the things that sets us apart from all the uncivilized countries is finding a jury of our peers when we are accused. You will not find a better place to possibly put together a jury of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s peers than in Detroit. I mean, Dearbornistan is right there. Here’s a third place you could go: Los Angeles. Los Angeles, you could get a jury out there that could find you innocent after two years of incontrovertible evidence just ’cause they don’t like the mayor and the police chief. So there are any number of places that Holder could do this since New York no longer wants the trial since Chuck-U Schumer does want to be reelected.

RUSH: I was silly. I was silly getting my hopes up on the new trial location, Washington, Detroit, maybe LA. The Obama administration has already said they’re going to keep it in New York but not in Manhattan. They want to move it to Governors Island. There’s a tiny little island there. It’s not populated. It used to have some sort of a military installation. The only reason I know that is because when I first moved to New York I had some friends that were real tightwads, and they came in for the weekend and they stayed out there. I didn’t know anybody could stay there. I don’t know if they have to pitch a tent or what. Governors Island is one place and there’s some military installations nearby. Now, I don’t know if this is going to please Chuck-U Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and the New York congressional delegation, plus the mayor and all that, ’cause I mean Governors Island is just, you know, George Washington silver dollar toss from Manhattan. And you still gotta drive the guy back and forth to a prison every day, to the trial that’s there, which is gonna keep the security going. It’s still going to be disruptive. This is the Obama administration. Two things now. They’re thumbing the nose at the New York delegation. They have defunded the 9/11 health care plan for New York and its people there, and now this. The mayor and Chuck-U Schumer and everybody says, ‘Please, we don’t want this trial here. We want to get reelected.’ They saw what happened in Massachusetts. So Obama says, ‘Fine, we’ll just move it about a couple feet over to Governors Island.’

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I have a friend, ladies and gentlemen, who just sent me a note backing up what I said about Governors Island as a place not suited to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. I described it as being ‘a George Washington silver dollar throwaway from Manhattan.’ The friend says to me, ‘Only somebody who has not been to Governors Island would propose having the KSM trial there. I go there several times a year to take the kids to Little League games. Governors Island is about a three minute ferry ride from lower Manhattan. It has a great view of the Statue of Liberty so Khalid Sheikh Mohammed could look at the target of one of his future attacks. There’s barely enough functioning infrastructure on the island for a Little League game. Before each game is played there the kids’ coaches send out warnings to bring water because the only drinkable water is about a half mile from the baseball field in makeshift bathrooms by the ferry terminal. The Coast Guard departed…’ That’s what it was! That’s where my cheap friends stayed. It was a Coast Guard installation. ‘The Coast Guard departed years ago and all the quarters, officers, et cetera, have been deteriorating while the state and city have been fighting over what to do with the place. Food is available during summer weekends only on hot dog carts and ice cream trucks that come over from the mainland on the ferry.’ That is where Obama wants to put the Khalid Sheikh Mohammed trial: Governors Island. It is three-minute ferry ride. It’s down in lower Manhattan, by the way.
