RUSH: Anyway, let’s go to the phones. I need a break. Omaha, Nebraska. Bill, I’m glad you called. You are on the EIB Network.
CALLER: Dittos, Rush, from KFAB in Huskerland.
RUSH: Thank you, sir.
CALLER: Rush, I love you, man, but you are a horrible student. I’ve been teaching tennis lessons for 32 years and I’m a golfer about as good as you are. But I’ve been teaching tennis, and, my friend, I gotta tell you, I hate to tell you too, it’s like telling my best friend, you are impatient, you won’t practice, and you don’t want to change. And those combinations are bad combinations, Rush. I watched The Haney Project last night and —
CALLER: — I was cringing because Haney, I could tell in his face and some of the things he was saying, he’s looking at you going, ‘Rush, you gotta change these things. These are things that I’m gonna tell you to do, and you don’t want to do ’em,’ and I’ve had those kind of tennis lessons, Rush, and I sit there and say, ‘Oh, my gosh, what am I doing?’
RUSH: Well, here’s one thing I must caution you. I cannot blame you for this mistake in perception. Remember, now, you are seeing last night about ten minutes of at that time a total of 70 hours of video that’s been shot. You are seeing ten minutes outta 70 hours of video. There was so much yesterday that was left out, my gosh, it’s kinda painful for me to have to tell you this, but what was left out of last night’s show, you would not possibly — I can’t blame you, but you could not possibly have the conclusion that you’ve drawn.
CALLER: I think I do have an idea, Rush, ’cause I’ve been around athletes my whole life and, like I said, taught tennis lessons for 32 years. But I want to ask you a question. Did he videotape you at all and put you right next to, say, Freddie Couples or someone like that and go through slow motion as to what you’re doing on your backswing and —
RUSH: For about five hours. This is what I’m trying to —
RUSH: — tell you.
RUSH: I’ve had more people say, I’ve got more e-mails today: ‘Rush, I’ve watched three episodes, and they still haven’t told me what’s wrong with your swing and what they’re trying to fix.’
CALLER: Yeah. Yeah.
RUSH: Well, that’s ’cause it’s on the cutting room floor. I’m trying to tell you, like I say I do not blame you for this. But I would just suggest watch — the next episode is Hank and his wife in China and me playing golf for five or six minutes, and the next episode, that’s what you’ve gotta watch because now it’s going to appear miraculous, Bill, it all comes together. And you’re gonna throw all this talk about me being a lousy student out the window but you’re not gonna have seen any of the teaching. But I have no control over the editing of this.
RUSH: So I don’t blame you. But trust me, my man, six hours, no break, three different times, while the unionized camera crew took two breaks. But I can’t blame you. I’ll forgive you. You’ll see in future episodes.
