RUSH: “Angel Nieves Diaz, who was convicted of murdering a Miami topless bar manager twenty-seven years ago, was executed by lethal injection tonight. He appeared to grimace before dying thirty-four minutes after receiving the first dose of chemicals. The manner of his death will likely rekindle the argument that Florida’s method of execution constitutes cruel and unusual punishment.” Yeah, Old Sparky didn’t work. The electric chair. So they went to the lethal injection. That doesn’t seem to work. What are we talking about here? It didn’t take this man thirty-four minutes to die. It took him twenty-seven years! It was pretty humane if you ask me. He got free room and board, and he was still sucking in air twenty-seven years after the man he murdered [Joseph Nagy] stopped breathing. It took him twenty-seven years to die, not thirty-four minutes.
A story out of Beijing: “The long arms of the world’s tallest man reached in and saved two dolphins by pulling out plastic from their stomachs. The dolphins got sick after nibbling on plastic from the edge of their pool at an aquarium. Attempts to use surgical instruments to remove the plastic failed because the dolphins’ stomachs contracted in response to the instruments. Veterinarians then decided to ask for the help of Bao Xishun, a 7’9” herdsman from inner Mongolia with 41.7-inch-long arms. He’s 54 and is confirmed last year by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s tallest living man. Photographs showed the jaws of one of the dolphins being held back by towels so that this guy could reach inside the animal without being bitten. Some very small plastic pieces are still left in the dolphin’s stomachs, said the local vet. However, the dolphins will be able to digest those and are expected to recover soon.”So despite their great intellect, ladies and gentlemen, dolphins — smarter than we are — are still, for some reason nibbling on plastic. It has to be due to global warming — and even at that, they needed the assistance of some human freak in order to be able to have their lives saved.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I’m going through the show prep today, getting ready for the program, and you would not believe the number of stories out there on the minimum wage — and you would not believe the number of stories out there on immigration. I’ll tell you what’s going on here. The Democrats are out there saying, “We’re not going to touch this immigration. We’re not going to get anywhere near it, it’s a powder keg, it’s hot potatoes,” and the media is not going to let ’em off. The media is going to try to drive this issue down everybody’s throats, and the minimum wage is the same thing. I don’t know, must be four or five different minimum wage stories today from the wire services, and that is something that sort of mystifies me because that is going to happen.

Everybody’s caved on the minimum wage. This is just an incredible story. I laughed myself silly. “Eyewitnesses told of anguish as police swooped on several meatpacking plants in the US, largest immigration raid on Tuesday, the day Mexicans honor their beloved national icon, the Virgin of Guadalupe. The swoop by more than 1,000 Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers on Swift & Company meatpacking plants in six states of Utah to Texas netted nearly 1300 people, most of them undocumented immigrants from Mexico. As news of the raid spread among the congregation of people attending a mass in Greeley, Colorado, honoring the day of the Virgin of Guadalupe’s legendary appearance to an Indian peasant nearly 500 years ago, people trickled out of the service into the streets where ice and snow still lay in patches from snowfalls a few days earlier.

“There was a tremendous sorrow, horror, uncertainty. A lot of people just left the mass, went up to the plant. The ICE agents walked in the plant, hard hats provided by the company, we got phone calls, ‘How dare they conduct this raid on the day of the Virgin of Guadalupe?'” This story is a Reuters story, the Reuters story is very sympathetic to the illegal immigrants who got iced in the raid. They’ll be back on the job soon. This is one of these, I think, a display here to try to quell some of the national anger over illegal immigration. People say, “You’re not doing anything about it!”

“Oh, yeah? Watch this raid! We’ll do it on the day of Guadalupe, and that will really make ’em mad and you’ll see how tough we are on these people,” but beyond that, not much will happen. They said it was identity theft. Federal officials said the raids on these plants in six states uncovered a disturbing front in the battle against illegal immigration, identity theft as a tool to obtain employment. Really? Well, how shattering, shocking news is that? The whole thing is about identity theft. How else are you going to get a Social Security card or any other form of identification if you’re illegal if you don’t steal it from somebody or make it up?
