RUSH: Marcia in Bath, Michigan. I’m glad you waited. Great to have you on the program.

CALLER: Hello, Rush.

RUSH: Hi.

CALLER: How are you?

RUSH: Good. Thank you.

CALLER: Good. I’m new. I’m still a student, you know, learning here from you. But when I was speaking to, I guess, the producer or the person on the phone, I was saying that I grew up on welfare. I was a product of a mother who collected welfare all her life, and ended up on welfare as an adult. And my whole life growing up it was, “You gotta get a Democrat in office. If there’s a Republican, they’re gonna take all the benefits away.”

RUSH: See? That’s exactly how it is.

CALLER: “The richer are always wanting to get richer and the poorer get poorer.”

RUSH: Right, and now the new welfare is health care.

CALLER: Yeah. And so now, thanks to a gentleman I met like 12 years ago who has helped me change my ways and start… You know, I’ve been listening to your show for four years.

RUSH: Really? When did we meet?

CALLER: What was that?

RUSH: When did we meet? You said you met me 12 years ago, a gentleman changed your life. When did we meet?

CALLER: No, no, no, no. I said luckily I met a gentleman.

RUSH: Oh, it wasn’t me. My ego got away with me like Obama’s. I thought you meant — oh, okay. I’m sorry.

CALLER: No. And he totally changed my perception, which was hard to do. It was sort of like pushing me up a mountain heels-first. But he helped me understand if I want things to be better, I have to do better. But my whole life I grew up thinking I can’t get out of the situation. I’m being held hostage to welfare. And that’s kinda how they keep it for you. You know, if you try and work, they take away your benefits. You don’t have enough to survive.

RUSH: Right.

CALLER: So you kind of feel broken and you get yourself into this rut where you just want to keep collecting and keep collecting. When I was younger, I started working when I was 16 and my mom said, “You’re gonna have to give me half your paycheck because they’re taking my funds away.”

RUSH: Excuse me just a second, Marcia. Last half hour when I said these are the people, this is exactly what I’m talking about.

CALLER: Yep, exactly.

RUSH: I can’t tell you how happy I am that you’ve called, because you represent exactly what has to happen in this country for this country to get out of this vicious cycle that it’s in. We need for the country to be great. Everybody in it who’s capable must be striving to be better than they think they can be. You wanted more out of life than welfare was offering you.

CALLER: I didn’t realize that, though, until I met this gentleman who was saying, you know, you’re old enough to know better. You have to start making better choices, you know, regardless of how you grew up or what things were, you’re gonna have to make things better for yourself. You’re gonna have to work harder, otherwise nothing’s gonna change. You’re gonna sit here and you’re still gonna be angry. You’re gonna be upset. You’re still gonna be voting for Democrats and be held hostage.

RUSH: Let me tell you a little story here, Marcia, while I have you. Yesterday the president, in talking about Paul Ryan’s budget and the Republicans in general, criticized them for “social Darwinism.” The president believes that Republican policies are, you’re on your own, and if you fail, that’s fine. If you don’t, it’s fine, we don’t care about you. You’re on your own. The country’s never gotten anywhere with people being on their own. Social Darwinism. Have you ever been to a national park in this country? Have you ever been to Yosemite or the Grand Canyon or anyplace that’s a national park?

CALLER: No, I have not.

RUSH: Well, if you go, let me tell you what you’ll encounter. You’ll encounter signs everywhere telling you not to feed the animals. And the reason that you are not to feed the animals — this is the US Park Service — the animals must learn to fend for themselves if they are to survive and thrive. When you feed animals they become dependent and no longer function as nature intends. They lose their capacity to make their own way. They fill up on foods that are harmful. There is a dulling of the instincts that help wildlife avoid danger. They lose the fear of humans and cars, leading many of them to be killed while expecting to be fed. Some signs are downright mean. “A fed animal is a dead animal,” is one such sign. So the very government, the very bureaucracy that wants you kept on welfare, which you learned was the case, right, they wanted you to stay on welfare?

CALLER: Yeah, exactly.

RUSH: The same people, who if you go to a state park will not let you feed the animals because they will become dependent, just like you were. And they won’t be able to survive, just like you couldn’t. And they won’t be able to fend for themselves, just like you couldn’t. And they won’t be able to feed themselves, and they won’t be able to thrive, and they will not be able to detect danger and so forth. So they know, but they want you to stay dependent. They want you to stay on welfare.

CALLER: They want to keep you fearful. Because, you know, unfortunately I had two children, and, you know, how am I gonna take care of ’em? You know, I didn’t think about that at the time. So it’s like, you know, what am I gonna do? The exact same thing that my mom did: expect the state to take a care of it. And then you have a choice: You can stay on and get the money so you can feed your kids, or you can get a job —

RUSH: So what are you doing now, Marcia?

CALLER: Luckily, I was hired by this gentleman that owns his own company, and I work for him. I have to work long hours. I work 12 to 13 hours a day. I work six days a week. And you know what? I just started this job in September, and I’m not taking any assistance from the government now. My taxes last year I claimed just under $15,000 is what I lived on —

RUSH: How do you feel now? What is your attitude each day just about yourself and life?

CALLER: I feel better about things, but I’m really worried that, due to the unemployment and a higher number of people being on welfare, that Obama’s gonna get in because people are fearful. They’re gonna want these benefits because how else are they gonna survive? And I’m telling you once you get on it, your mentality, it breaks you down as an individual. You just feel helpless and hopeless, and the more you try and do better, or try better yourself, it’s like they’re constantly against you. You get a job and you have to report your finances. You get a monetary gift for Christmas and you have to report this stuff because —

RUSH: What about your former friends? Do you have friends you know who are still in the welfare system?

CALLER: You know what, I don’t really, because I don’t really have much of a social life. I work, and then I have to go home and still take care of my children and still do laundry and, like I said, sometimes I don’t get home ’til seven, 7:30, so I have to cook dinner and take care of things. So I don’t really hang out with anybody except for the people that I work with, which is mainly my boss.

RUSH: You know, you are perfect. You are a perfect illustration of just the last half hour what I was telling this audience, the people of this audience, that I think needs to happen in order to combat and overcome the forces that wanted to keep you down. Marcia, I want you to hang on. Don’t hang up. Snerdley, pick up the phone. ‘Cause, Marcia, I’m gonna send you an iPad. If anybody deserves an iPad, it’s you, and you’ll love it. And if you’re not familiar with computers, don’t worry about it. This is one of the most intuitive computers you could ever use. You’ll have fun with it. You’ll learn with it. It’s fabulous. So sit tight. We’ll FedEx it out to you as soon as Snerdley gets the address from you.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Yeah, we’re gonna throw in a subscription of the Limbaugh Letter for Marcia as well. But, folks, that call from Marcia, there’s so much in her call. That is really why Obama needs this recession. It is why Obama is not interested in this recession ending. He needs as many people as possible dependent on the government. He needs as many people as possible thinking all is lost without the government, make as many people possible as dependent. It’s a reelection strategy and tool. And that’s what Obamacare is primarily about.
