Low-Information America Trusts Barack Obama to Run Things He Has No Clue About
Jan 28, 2013
RUSH: This is Don in Green Bay. Welcome, sir. Nice to have you on the EIB Network. Hello.
CALLER: Good afternoon, Rush. It’s a pleasure to speak with you.
RUSH: Thank you very much, sir.
CALLER: With all the talk today about guns and whether or not guns can become semiautomatic, automatic weapons, and recently with all the information in the news about the Second Amendment, I was wondering if you were aware of some public service announcements that were recently made by the Milwaukee County sheriff’s department —
RUSH: Yep.
CALLER: One of them in particular —
RUSH: Yep. He said arm up rather than call 911.
CALLER: Right. Sheriff David Clarke said he’s urging citizens to take a gun safety course. He says calling 911 and waiting due to layoffs and officers on furlough is no longer an option, and you can beg for mercy from a criminal or robber, but the police may not be able to get there soon enough to help you. And I just wanted to say when it comes to listening to an African-American liberal Democratic president or a conservative African-American Milwaukee sheriff department’s representative, I’ll take the sheriff over the president any day of the week.
RUSH: Well, that’s a wise decision. Look at the assumptions that have been made. People say this or that drives them crazy. One of the things that drives me crazy — that’s the wrong way to put it. One of the things that really makes me curious is — and I know the romantic notion people have of government, and I know that that’s been promoted by big government types. But look at the number of people who actually think, they really think that Barack Obama is the guy to design a health care system. That Barack Obama is the guy to set up the rules on abortion and contraceptives. That Barack Obama is the guy who ought to tell football players how they should play the game and tell the league what it should do.
He’s a man who hasn’t done anything. He has had no real-world experience in health care. In terms of energy, here’s a guy who’s telling everybody that you need to drive this kind of car. We need to get rid of oil and replace it with windmills and solar panels. And he doesn’t have the slightest idea what he’s talking about. He is simply advancing political agendas. And yet the number of people who blindly put faith in the notion that a guy who has never treated a patient, has never been involved in the invention, the R&D, the marketing, the bringing to market, creation of a drug, who has never run a hospital, who has never run an emergency room, never been anywhere near running a business, is somehow the nation’s foremost authority on all these things. That’s what boggles my mind.
Now, I’m saying the same thing you are, in a more generalized way. This country had the premiere medical and health service industry in the world. It was incomparable. It was by far and away the best. And a guy goes and gets elected president in 2008 and all of a sudden he, and he alone, and before him Hillary Clinton, who’s also never been in the hospital other than as a patient, who’s never run a business, who has never been inside an oil company, a drug company, a retail company, never, these people have all the answers. These people know better than all of the experts in all of these fields. In fact, it’s not just that. It’s not that they know better, it’s that they are as clean and pure as the wind-driven snow and all of the experts in all of these businesses are crooks.
And this is what the left asks us to believe, that everybody in Big Oil is a crook, that everybody in Big Retail is a crook, that everybody in Big Drug is a crook, and what they’re trying to do is rip off customers and steal profits and steal money and whatever they’re trying to do, kill their customers. They’re not trying to provide the right services, and all these other liberals, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, they are clean and pure as the wind-driven snow. They wouldn’t cheat anybody. They are gonna protect everybody from the evil practitioners and experts in all these businesses and all these industries.
It continues to blow me away that people will put all their faith in somebody who doesn’t have the slightest idea how any business, industry, or service works. They’ll put total trust in that person to run it, put it together, organize it, execute it. It’s mind-boggling, and it’s the result of 50 years of class envy, criticizing the private sector and everybody in it. This is where we end up.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: Our last caller had time constraints, and I didn’t get a chance to expound on the actual news story that he was reacting to, but it is true. A Milwaukee sheriff, David Clarke Jr., who’s African-American, released a radio ad urging Milwaukee area residents to learn how to handle firearms so that they can defend themselves while waiting for police. He said Friday that law enforcement cutbacks would change the way police can respond to crime. So he put together a 30-second PSA saying personal safety is “no longer a spectator sport.”
He said in the PSA: “I need you in the game. With officers laid off and furloughed, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option. You can beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under the bed, or you can fight back. … Consider taking a certified safety course in handling a firearm so you can defend yourself until we get there.”
As you can imagine, there are people up in arms over this.
“The ad has generated sharp criticism from other area officials and anti-violence advocates. The president of the Milwaukee Deputy Sheriffs’ Association, Roy Felber, said it sounds like a call to vigilantism. ‘That doesn’t sound too smart,’ Felber said. ‘People have the right to defend themselves, but they don’t have the right to take the law into their own hands.'”
What law are they taking into their own hands here, Mr. Felber? “Under Wisconsin’s ‘castle doctrine,’ someone who uses deadly force against an unlawful intruder to their home, business or vehicle is presumed to have acted reasonably.” And so what the caller was saying, “Who would I rather listen to, the sheriff of Milwaukee County, who happens to be African-American, or the president of the United States? Who would I rather listen to on what I should do to stay safe?” And that’s why I started talking about, well, some people think that Barack Obama, who’s never done anything but community organize, knows everything about health care, and nobody else knows anything. Only Obama knows about health care. Only Obama knows about health insurance. Only Obama knows about Big Oil and gasoline. And only Obama knows about windmills and solar panels. And only Obama knows about the military.
I understand it psychologically. I understand the notion, particularly in the minds of low-information people, that government is the beginning and end of everything. Government is where the protectors are. That’s what really has happened, is that this all-out 50-year assault on capitalism has led to people believing that their neighbors and that their friends and that people that run businesses large and small are just out to screw them, mistreat them, and that government is there to protect them.
Government is there to make sure that everybody’s treated with fairness and that everybody’s nice. And therefore it is thus assumed that it’s Barack Obama who knows more about health care than the guy that runs the American Medical Association. Barack Obama knows more about pharmaceuticals than all the CEOs and all the scientists at all the drug companies. Yes, of course it is patently absurd, but, sadly, it’s what people believe.
