Greetings, my friends. Great to have you here. Yet another three-hour excursion into broadcast excellence hosted by me, Rush Limbaugh, coming up on our 28th anniversary on August 1st. I gotta make sure I’m gonna be here that day. I don’t see anything to prevent it, but I gotta make sure. It’s 800-282-2882 if you want to be on the program. The email address, ElRushbo@eibnet.com.
Also I’ve got Andy McCarthy coming on in a half hour. He’ll be with us after the break at the bottom of the hour. I seldom bring guests in here for a whole lot of reasons that I’ve explained before. I don’t need to go through it. I’ve asked Andy to come on and summarize this: What do we know? Where are we? Day two.
You know, he had a great piece yesterday practically immediately after Comey’s press conference dissecting the two laws in question here and blowing up this whole concept of intent and Hillary’s lack of it as the mechanism for not proceeding any further, and it was a brilliant piece. It was National Review Online. It’s been quoted practically everywhere.
This whole business of her intent, everybody is wondering now: Was a fix in? Because it doesn’t make sense otherwise. You know, and even I, I mean, I’m being quoted all over the Drive-By Media in order to give Comey credibility here, because back in April I had gone out — well, not on a limb. I thought I was speaking honestly telling everybody there was something going on and something big, by the way, happening on April 10th, for those of you that think the fix might be in here, wait ’til you hear this, coming up in just a second.
But we were discussing this, some of us, not on the air, and I had a lot of people asking me what I knew about Comey. I’ve never met Comey, but I know a lot of people that do know Comey. Andy knows Comey very well. And I came on the program back in April and basically sang his virtues as a man of impeccable integrity, nonpartisan. And I still think that’s the case in a lot of ways, which is another thing that I want to get into today.
You know, the Republicans or conservatives always, when it comes to judging, when it comes to legalities, always try to do the right thing even if it harms their interests. Well, maybe a stretch to say “always,” but the Democrats never do. And that was on display yesterday. So that’s another thing I’m teasing you with that before the program ends today I’m going to get into.
So I’m being quoted all over the place to give Comey cover. “Why, even Rush Limbaugh said that Comey is beyond reproach.” It’s in The Politico. “Even Rush Limbaugh said that Comey’s integrity is unquestionable.” Da-da-da-da-da-da. And this is being done because everybody’s in CYA. Everybody on the left, you know what they’re laughing about? You know what they’re smiling about? She got away with it. As long as she didn’t go to jail, she’s fine. If she’s criminal and gets away with it, that’s okay with them on the left. They don’t care. They are not bothered by that.
In fact, that’s become a standard. Hillary’s okay if they can’t prove any criminality or if nobody wants to charge her with it, then whatever she did is fine. They just don’t three people overboard, and we do. We have had a habit of that. I don’t know about habit, we’ve had a practice of it for as long as I’ve been doing this program, and a lot of the motivation for it is defensive. In addition to trying to do the right thing and obey the law and follow principle, there’s a part of the conservative, slash, Republican movement that believes if we just show that we’re fair and impeccable, then we will get credit from those who think we’re all these horrible things, and maybe they won’t hate us as much.
I’m so sick of that motivation. I’m so sick of that reasoning why we support amnesty. “Well, we have to show the Hispanics that what the Democrats say about us isn’t true.” So we undermine ourselves in some silly attempt to disprove all of these baseless allegations. As such, we’re constantly on the defensive. And that’s where we find ourselves now, trying to find out exactly what went on, why it went on, explaining it away, and then searching somehow for a way to overcome this.
Rudy Giuliani has been on fire. We have audio sound bites from him. Do you remember the Bob Torricelli audio that we put together? Because everybody copies this now. Everybody does this, and I want to go back. This goes back to 2001. Bob Torricelli, Democrat member of the Senate, was basically about to be thrown out of office on corruption charges, and he went to the floor of the Senate to deny everything. And we juxtaposed his denials with an attorney from someone in an action against Torricelli who was listing all of the gifts and all the bribes that Torricelli had been given and offered in exchange for policy considerations on the Senate floor. So he’s on the Senate floor denying it. We have the opposing lawyer listing all of the offenses. We call this the Torricelli montage, and this is how it was back in April of 2001.
TORRICELLI: To challenge my integrity is beneath contempt. I do not deserve this treatment.
CHANG: Two watches, a Rolex watch, diamond earrings for his girlfriend —
TORRICELLI: I have never!
CHANG: — a television set —
CHANG: — Oriental rug, grandfather clock, other antique items —
TORRICELLI: — done anything.
CHANG: — suits —
TORRICELLI: At any time.
CHANG: — approximately 14 deliveries of envelopes of cash to Torricelli’s house.
TORRICELLI: To betray the trust of the people of the state of New Jersey. (pounds podium) Never!
RUSH: And they got rid of him, and he was replaced by The Lout, Frank Lautenberg. Torricelli was losing. The Democrats can’t lose, so they got rid of him, way beyond when it was permissible. The time for a replacement had passed, but the New Jersey Supreme Court made up of Democrat hacks said, “Hey, if our candidate can’t go, sure you can put in a replacement,” and they did with Lautenberg, and he ended up winning.
So to show you how this is done now. We’ve got three different versions of this and they’re all fabulous and they illustrate exactly what went on, the contradictions, the hypocrisy, and worse. First, Reason Magazine on their website.
HILLARY: (music) I did not email any classified material to anyone. There is no classified material.
COMEY: One hundred ten emails in 52 email chains have been determined by the owning agency to contain classified information at the time they were sent or received.
HILLARY: I provided all my emails that could possibly be work related.
COMEY: Several thousand work-related emails that were not among the group of 30,000 emails returned by Secretary Clinton…
HILLARY: I thought using one device would be simpler.
COMEY: She also used numerous mobile devices to send and to read email.
HILLARY: There were no security breaches.
COMEY: It is possible that hostile actors gained access to Secretary Clinton’s personal email account.
HILLARY: It was my practice to communicate with State Department and other government officials on their .gov account.
COMEY: Hostile actors gained access to the private commercial email accounts of people with whom Secretary Clinton was in regular contact from her personal account.
HILLARY: Um, no doubt that we’ve done exactly what we should have done.
COMEY: They were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information.
HILLARY: People will be able to judge for themselves.
COMEY: We cannot find a case that would support bringing criminal charges on these facts.
HILLARY: (people talking in background) Thank you! Thank you!
COMEY: To be clear, this is not to suggest that in similar circumstances, a person who engaged in this activity would face no consequences.
HILLARY: Americans will find that, uh, you know, interesting; and I look forward to having a discussion, uh, about that.
RUSH: It’s pretty damning. That’s Hillary Clinton juxtaposed against the FBI Director Comey yesterday, clearly illustrating she lied. Anybody ever heard of Martha Stewart? Whatever happens to people who lie? Scooter Libby, anybody ever heard of that? I mean, she walked away scot-free on everything, other than in the court of public opinion, and of course that’s now up to the Trump campaign, the Republican Party and whatever conservative media can do with it. But we’re dealing with low-information voters. The standards have sunk so low throughout our culture that who really knows. And I gotta tell you, you know, I read my web blogs, my tech blogs, it’s highly educational, folks. They’re all a bunch of young lib Millennial journalists, and every one that I read that commented on this, you know what they were happy about?
I’ll give you a classic, typical reaction to this. All of this was worth it to see the right wing have a fever attack. All of this was worth it to see the right wing think they were gonna get her, and she skates. They don’t care whether she’s guilty or not. The fact that she got away with it and defeats us is exactly the point that I’ve been trying to make about this, to the people that want to listen. That is their motivation. These are people that are gonna vote for Hillary Clinton. They couldn’t care less that she is sleazy. They couldn’t care less that she cannot tell the truth. They couldn’t care less that she exposes this nation to great risk.
This is a great nation at terrible risk in a dangerous world, and she has fully exposed this nation and will continue to do so because of her utter incompetence and her lack of care, lack of attention, lack of concern. And she’s got people gonna vote for her on the basis that she can give the right wing fever attacks, on the basis that she can make mincemeat and make fools out of the right wing who think they’ve got her, and she slithers away yet again. It makes her a hero. It makes her husband a hero. And I don’t have an answer how you overcome that. ‘Cause that’s pure hatred. That is just pure hatred.
Now, one thing I do know, you can’t change hatred by showing those people that they’re wrong about us. That’s not gonna work. You can’t go out and adopt Democrat policies all the way or halfway to show that you’re not what they think you are. They have to be defeated. We cannot find a way to mutually coexist with them. We cannot meet ’em halfway. We can’t cross the aisle. These people, I’m talking about the left wherever you find them, the Democrats, they have to be defeated.
“What about partisanship, Rush, what about cooperation?” We’re the wrong people to talk to about that. My point is we’ve tried that. We try it practically every time it comes up, be it amnesty, be it any other issue they want. We try and it gets us nowhere, and it doesn’t get us any favors among left-wing-inclined voters, either.
Now, these videos that put together like we did the Torricelli, the GOP has done their own version of this. So far we’ve had the Reason magazine version. Here is the GOP’s version of the same effort to expose Hillary Clinton as a flat-out liar and James Comey allowing her to walk on it.
COMEY: There is evidence that they were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information.
HILLARY: I thought it would be easier to carry just one device for my work and for my personal emails instead of two.
COMEY: Secretary Clinton used several different servers and administrators of those servers during her four years at the State Department. She also used numerous mobile devices to send and to read email on that personal domain.
HILLARY: We went through a thorough process to identify all of my work-related emails and deliver them to the State Department and provided all my emails that could possibly be work related.
COMEY: The FBI also discovered several thousand work-related emails that were not among the group of 30,000 emails returned by Secretary Clinton.
HILLARY: I did not email any classified material to anyone on my email.
COMEY: One hundred ten emails in 52 email chains have been determined by the owning agency to contain classified information.
HILLARY: It had numerous safeguards, it was on property guarded by the Secret Service, and there were no security breaches.
COMEY: We do assess that hostile actors gained access to the private commercial email accounts of people with whom Secretary Clinton was in regular contact from her personal account.
REPORTER: Did you or any of your aides delete any government related emails from your personal account?
HILLARY: To conduct the thorough investigation was to err on the side of providing anything that could be possibly viewed as work related.
COMEY: They deleted all emails they did not produce to state, and the lawyers then cleaned their devices in such a way as to preclude complete forensic recovery.
REPORTER: Do you think it posed a national security problem?
OBAMA: I don’t think it posed a national security problem.
COMEY: She also used her personal email extensively while outside the United States, including sending and receiving work-related emails in the territory of sophisticated adversaries.
RUSH: Look, man, this is devastating. It just illustrates that she lied every time she opened her mouth at any press conference about this. The press conference where most of this comes from is the one that she did at the UN where she thought the press corps there wouldn’t be as up to speed because it’s a foreign policy, foreign press, press corps, so she chose the UN to do this, and they were up to speed, and she cut this press conference short.
Now, if these are the answers that she gave the FBI in numerous interviews or if these are the answers that her staff gave, there are process crimes here galore. There is lying, and if there’s lying, there is intent. This whole business of intent anyway, there’s no doubt about her intent, otherwise she wouldn’t have lied about every step of wrongdoing. She surrounded herself with accomplished legal and political fixers. And that’s because she’s careful.
Careful crooks control the flow of information. Careful crooks destroy and attempt to destroy evidence. Careful crooks have powerful friends to grease the skids. Careful crooks break laws and are not held accountable. There’s no question that she had intent. So what happened? How in the world did this happen? Was the fix in? People are searching for any sensible explanation because nothing makes any sense here. This just doesn’t add up and doesn’t jibe.
I found a Wall Street Journal editorial. In fact, folks, go back. Obama granted a very rare interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News back on April the 10th, and in that interview, Obama said — and I don’t have the audio of this. I just had a chance to send the whole interview up to the audio editors. There’s not nearly enough time to get this done any time real soon. Maybe by the end of the day, and I’ve gotta take a break right now, but the point is that Obama, back on April 10th on Fox News, used almost the identical language that Comey used yesterday.
RUSH: So back on April 10th, Obama appears on Fox News Sunday. That doesn’t happen very much. He was on with Chris Wallace, and he just happened to use — as we’ve gone back and looked here — exactly the same words that James Comey ended up using yesterday. There’s an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal pointing this out on April the 11th by Cleta Mitchell. “President Obama chooses his words carefully, so it was startling on Sunday when he chose to opine on the Justice Department’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server. All the more so in the way that he phrased his defense of the Democrat he wants to succeed him as President in January.
“On Fox News Sunday, host Chris Wallace rolled a clip from October of Mr. Obama saying that ‘I can tell you this is not a situation in which America’s national security was endangered.’ Mr. Wallace then cited the 2,000 or so emails we have since learned contained classified information, including 22 that included ‘top secret’ information, and he asked: ‘Can you still say flatly that she did not jeopardize America’s secrets?’ Mr. Obama replied: ‘I’ve got to be careful because, as you know, there have been investigations, there are hearings, Congress is looking at this.
“And I haven’t been sorting through each and every aspect of this. Here’s what I know: Hillary Clinton was an outstanding Secretary of State. She would never intentionally put America in any kind of jeopardy.’ Mr. Wallace pressed further on the jeopardy angle, and Mr. Obama responded again: ‘I continue to believe that she has not jeopardized America’s national security. Now what I’ve also said is that — and she has acknowledged — that there’s a carelessness, in terms of managing emails…'” It’s almost… It’s uncanny how like Comey’s remarks yesterday Obama’s words were all the way back in April.
RUSH: Okay. So some campaign news before we get back to the audio sound bites from Fox News Sunday. I finally have ’em here, and you be the judge. It’s uncanny way back in April Barack Obama’s language about Hillary Clinton and her email problems, almost identical to what James Comey said yesterday exonerating her. Well, I keep saying that. He didn’t exonerate her. In fact, he did the exact opposite. He did everything but indict her. And as Andy McCarthy pointed out, that doesn’t usually happen. Normally these decisions to prosecute, we never hear about it. We just learn that something’s gonna happen or something isn’t, but we never get what we got yesterday.
Okay. The fix. Is this whole thing with Hillary and the emails and the FBI and the DOJ, was the fix in? Can’t blame people for going there and asking that because what happened here is in utter conflict with common sense. What happened yesterday makes no common sense. Not if the rule of law matters. Now, it does make common sense if you can come up with some other theory. And they’re all over the place.
I mean, you got people thinking Comey is brilliant, that he’s Machiavellian brilliant. That he knew the worst thing that could happen would be to have her indicted, ’cause that would only circle the wagons of supports around her. Or it might dislodge her and then we’d get Biden, and for some reason some people think Biden would be unbeatable, whereas she is beatable.
Biden’s never won diddly-squat. Biden’s never gotten out of the first round of primaries whenever he’s entered. But for some reason a lot of people on our side think that Biden would be formidable and therefore would be would be much more formidable to keep Hillary as the candidate. Other people are saying, “Hey, you know what? He’s not recommending an indictment, but he did everything but. He spelled out her dishonesty. He laid it out for anybody and everybody. He gave the road map for the Trump campaign to.”
I’ve even heard it said — get this theory. Tell me if you’ve heard this. That Comey did what he did to spare the country of a Bernie Sanders-Donald Trump campaign. That’s the latest. That Comey is such a man of integrity, that he has such a high regard for America that he simply could not allow a campaign of Bernie Sanders versus Donald Trump because somebody in that scenario’s gonna win and it’s going to be an embarrassment.
Now, that theory requires you to believe that Hillary Clinton winning the presidency is the best thing that can happen of all the possibilities out there and that Comey would have to ascribe to that theory. I don’t know Comey, so I don’t know. The only thing I know about Comey is what I’ve been told, and I’ve witnessed a little bit. He was John Ashcroft’s aide back when George W. Bush, first term, Ashcroft was his attorney general.
Then there’s this little bit from the Gallup poll. A shocking finding, recent Gallup survey, 75% of Americans say that corruption is widespread throughout the government. The numbers saying the government is corrupt is up dramatically, almost up 10 points since Obama assumed control of the Regime. And it isn’t just the cynicism of technophile citizens in the developed world. The number of Americans who view the government as corrupt is almost twice the number of Germans who believe their government is dirty. Residents of most developed European Union countries, in fact, have much more favorable views about corruption in their own government. So I guess socialistic corruption is more acceptable in Europe.
Anyway, so there was a CNN poll recently that found — Breitbart News had this. A strong majority of Americans are dissatisfied and angry with the way the country is being governed. That doesn’t show up in the polling data. If 75% of the American people think the US government’s corrupt, how in the world is Hillary Clinton leading by five or six points? I mean, that would be my question. I know that if you go to the NBC/Wall Street Journal poll — and this is important, too — in that poll, Hillary is up whatever it is, six points, but in every question on the internal of that poll, she just gets creamed.
Honest and trustworthy, Trump just creams her. Best to deal with the economy, best to deal with terrorism, Trump is creaming her, wiping the floor with her. If 75% of the American people think the US government’s corrupt, who’s running the government right now? Yeah, Democrats. But in most people’s minds they’d probably say the establishment. And a lot of people think the establishment is both parties, and some would be correct about that.
Ninety-seven percent — Gallup survey — 97% of Trump’s supporters said they were dissatisfied with government in America. Ninety-one percent reported they are angry about it. This is a big number. Seventy-five percent of Americans think the US government is corrupt. Be honest. Do you get that sense when you travel around? No, no. I’m serious. I don’t. Isn’t one of our great fears that the younger generations don’t care or they are so in love with government that whatever it does is okay and that it needs to be doing more?
Isn’t one of the great fears that younger people and a lot of Democrats don’t find anything wrong? Isn’t that why we think we’re losing the country? So then you come along and you find the Gallup survey, 75% of Americans think the government’s corrupt, I don’t see that reflected anywhere. I know, Drive-Bys would not reflect it, because it would redound negatively to Obama and Hillary. But, you know, you would see some signs. Just look.
You can see signs of a roaring economy. You can sense economic growth. You know it’s happening. You’re part of it. It is affecting you. Seventy-five percent of Americans think the government is corrupt. If that’s the case, why do so many people love it? Why do so many people want more of it? Why do so many people constantly turn to it? Would be my preguntas. No, no. I would like for it to be true. It’s a poll, you know, and it’s obviously seductive.
Okay, we’re gonna go back. Three audio sound bites here before the break and we’ll get to your phone calls after that. This is Fox News Sunday, April 10th, this year, Barack Hussein O with a rare appearance on Fox. This is with Chris Wallace. I want you to listen to these bites simply to listen to the language Obama uses and how similar it sounds in his assessment of Hillary and her actions with her emails. It almost exactly sounds like that which James Comey uttered yesterday in his press conference.
So the first question from Chris Wallace. “Last October, Mr. President, you said Hillary Clinton’s private email server does not jeopardize national secrets. Since then we’ve learned that over 2,000 of her emails contained classified material; 22 of them had top-secret information. Can you still say flatly that she did not jeopardize America’s secrets?”
OBAMA: I’ve gotta be careful because, as you know, there have been investigations, there are hearings, Congress is looking at this, and I haven’t been sorting through each and every aspect of this. Here’s what I know. Hillary Clinton was an outstanding secretary of state. She would never intentionally put America in any kind of jeopardy. And what I also know, because I handle a lot of classified information, is that there’s classified and then there’s classified. There’s stuff that is really top secret top secret, and there’s stuff that is being presented to the president or the secretary of state that you might not want on the transom or, you know, going out over the wire, but is basically stuff that you could get in open source.
RUSH: Interesting. So she wouldn’t intentionally put the nation at risk. She wouldn’t intentionally traffic in top secret stuff. And besides, not all this stuff we deal with is that classified anyway. So here’s the president, very powerful, intimidating guy, Comey works for him, the president’s been out there saying he didn’t think Hillary did anything wrong. And Lynch meets with Bill Clinton. I mean, the message was sent to Comey in every possible way. Make no mistake that that’s what this is all about. Make no mistake, Clinton getting on the plane with Loretta Lynch, all that’s meant to send a signal to Comey. So Chris Wallace then said, “Well, last October, Mr. President, you were prepared to say she hasn’t jeopardized. And the question, can you still say that?”
OBAMA: I continue to believe that she has not jeopardized America’s national security. Now, what I’ve also said is that, and she’s acknowledged, that there’s a carelessness in terms of managing emails that she has owned and she recognizes. But I also think it is important to keep this in perspective. This is somebody who has served her country for four years as secretary of state and did an outstanding job, and no one has suggested that in some ways, as a consequence of how she handled emails, that that detracted from her excellent ability to carry out her duties.
RUSH: Okay. So in this bite the keyword is, “Hey, and she’s even acknowledged there was a carelessness.” So in the first sound bite, what we heard was that there was never any intent. She didn’t intend to put America in any kind of jeopardy. She’s acknowledged there was a carelessness. And now the third bite. Question: “Mr. President, some people, I think, are worried that the decision on how to handle the case will be made on political grounds, not legal grounds. Can you guarantee to the American people, can you direct the Justice Department to say Hillary Clinton will be treated as the evidence goes, she will not be in any way protected?”
OBAMA: I can guarantee that. And I can guarantee that not because I give Attorney General Lynch a directive. That is institutionally how we have always operated. I do not talk to the attorney general about pending investigations.
RUSH: Doesn’t have to.
OBAMA: I do not talk to the FBI directors about pending investigations.
RUSH: Doesn’t have to.
OBAMA: We have a strict line and always have maintained it through this presidency.
WALLACE: Just to button this up.
OBAMA: I guarantee it. I guarantee that there is no political influence in any investigation conducted by the Justice Department or the FBI, not just in this case, but in any case, full stop, period.
WALLACE: And she will be treated no differently —
OBAMA: Guaranteed, full stop, nobody gets treated differently when it comes to the Justice Department, because nobody is above the law.
RUSH: Okay. She did. She was treated differently. She was treated differently on the basis of they changed the statute, didn’t apply the one that required intent, or they did, and they ignored the one on gross negligence. That’s the whole rub of it.
RUSH: Okay. We put together our own audio montage here — the montages we created, invented, and are known for — and what we’ve done in this one… We played you Trump’s, we played you the GOP’s, we played you the Reason magazine in the first half hour of the program. What we’ve done here, is we’ve taken Obama’s comments from a Fox News appearance in April and we’ve backed ’em up against James Comey’s comments yesterday in his press conference.
OBAMA: Hillary Clinton was an outstanding secretary of state. She would never intentionally put America in any kind of jeopardy.
COMEY: We did not find clear evidence that Secretary Clinton or her colleagues intended to violate laws.
OBAMA: And she’s acknowledged that there’s uh, a carelessness in terms of managing emails.
COMEY: There is evidence that they were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information.
OBAMA: I do not talk to the attorney general about pending investigations. I do not talk to FBI directors about pending investigations.
COMEY: I have not coordinated this statement or reviewed it in any way with the Department of Justice or any other part of the government.
OBAMA: I guarantee that there is no political influence in any investigation conducted by the Justice Department or the FBI.
COMEY: What I can assure the American people: Only facts matter, and the FBI found them here in an entirely apolitical and professional way.
RUSH: Well, that pretty much closes the loop. So we had the Reason magazine sound bite, which they put together. Trump did one of his own, and the GOP did theirs, and this is ours. Obama and Comey cut together to illustrate the eerie similarity in terminology and phrasing that was used by the president — again, back in April in an appearance on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace — and Comey yesterday, at his press conference announcing that no “reasonable prosecutor” would bring the case.
