Caller Apologizes for Calling Rush a Name

by Rush Limbaugh - Mar 15,2007

RUSH: This is Diana in Maryville, Tennessee. Hi, Diana. Welcome to the program.
CALLER: Thank you. Thank you for giving me a second chance. I’m calling because I owe you an apology. I called you on Monday and called you a name that you did not deserve.
RUSH: That’s when you called me a…butt.
CALLER: Yes.
RUSH: You actually used the orifice’s actual name.
CALLER: Yeah.
RUSH: I appreciate that.
CALLER: And for one thing that was out of my character. I don’t ordinarily use profanity with someone — and when I do, or when I screw up, whether it’s profanity or whatever, I have such a relationship with God that it bothers me when that happens. Because when you sin, you sin against God also. I think a lot of you, and like I told your call screener, I listened to you for 16, 17 years, something like that, and I wanted to have a conversation with you, and then what do I do? I get on the phone and I try to make chopped liver out of you.
RUSH: Well, you know, look —
CALLER: It was childish and stupid, and I’ve got enough stuff in my life. I don’t need “stupid” added to my list.
RUSH: Well, I appreciate the apology. I feel bad that you’ve been suffering some guilt all week.
CALLER: Oh, you just don’t know. (Laughing.) In that anger episode, I think I used up my energy for the week.
RUSH: Well, you were angry. You didn’t like the way I had dealt with a woman caller prior to you. You were telling me that I had behaved in such a way that you had to use that bodily orifice description of me. But you know everybody has one except people with colostomy bags. It is what it is. Well, even people with colostomy bags have them, but it’s not used. But I’m glad you called. I hope you feel better.
CALLER: I do. I called because I wanted to clear my conscience, you know, so that I would have peace once again. Like I said, I don’t like to displease the Lord. He’s the most important thing in my life.

RUSH: Well, let me apologize to you for making you feel that way. Normally you shouldn’t grant people that much power to make you feel that way.
CALLER: No, usually I don’t.
RUSH: In this case you did, and I apologize, because that’s not my intent. My intent here is not to offend people. I know it’s going to happen, but I don’t try to.
CALLER: Well, I could have stated my point without using profanity. That was ridiculous.
RUSH: That’s borderline profanity. You hear the word in the movies all the time these days. But I appreciate your call, Diana. Thanks so much. Please, think nothing more of it, okay?
CALLER: Okay.
RUSH: These things happen in the heat of passion, and I did not take it personally or any of that.
CALLER: Well, I didn’t figure you would, when actually you shouldn’t have because you weren’t the one who committed the crime, so to speak. It was myself, so I’m the one that had to own up to it, so that’s what I’m doing.
RUSH: And you’ve done that, and I appreciate it. Thanks so much for the call. I appreciate it.
