RUSH: David in Omaha, I’m glad to have you on the EIB Network. It’s nice to welcome you to the program.
CALLER: Hey, mega cornhusker dittos, Rush.
RUSH: Thank you, sir.
CALLER: Hey I was wondering. What’s going to happen if there is a total stalemate and Congress never gives funding to the troops and just keeps attaching this baloney to the legislation?
RUSH: There won’t be a stalemate.
CALLER: What if there were, where will we get the funds?
RUSH: Well, I don’t believe in
CALLER: (background noise from crumb crunchers)
CALLER: I’m sorry.
RUSH: One of the kids get out of the house or something?
CALLER: Yeah. They’re always running around. Hey, I was just wondering. Wouldn’t it be a shocker if the American people actually ended up just going ahead and funding our troops themselves out of their pockets? I would think that would be crushing to the Democrat Party’s idea.
RUSH: Okay, now you’re living in dreamland. We may as well start doing bake sales to fund the war in Iraq. (You know we’ve got the 15th anniversary of Dan’s Bake Sale coming up, I think, on May 24th. I think that’s what we went to Fort Collins. I don’t know that I’m going to go. In fact, there’s not enough time to set something up because I just now realized that the anniversary date is May 24th.) They’re not going to de-fund it. USA Today has a story today. Jim Moran, who’s about as radical a Democrat as you can find, said, ‘I think we’re ultimately going to lose this battle, although I think it will be a pyrrhic victory for the White House because they’re going to lose the war for public opinion.’ Representative Jim Cooper, a conservative Democrat from Tennessee, said, ‘Look, the money is going to flow because the troops always come first. This is really just a battle for the mind of the public.’
Congressman Cooper, this is more than ‘politics.’ This is the point that they don’t get. To them, the Democrats in this whole mess, de-funding the war and withdrawal target dates, it’s all politics to them. It’s purely political — and it’s about far more than that. This is… I’m telling you, the American people know this, and the Democrats are doing themselves no favors with all this. It’s going to redound to their — well, they’re going to regret it somewhere down the line. You just can’t behave and say the things that they’re saying in the midst of times like this. Remember, they didn’t have the guts to talk this way before the election last November. They were doing anything they could to keep their agenda hidden. It was all about the ‘culture of corruption’ and it was Macaca and it was Foley and all. But now they’re so giddy with their new power, they can’t help themselves. They’re finally telling us who they are — and the more of that, the better.
