RUSH: I did not intend to start the program with immigration. I know it still revs you up. A lot of people still fit to be tied over it. I don’t want to wear everybody out on this. I don’t do a global warming update every day, even though we could. The reason I moved this discussion up to the first hour is because of this next sound bite. This from last night CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360. The correspondent here is Thelma Gutierrez and she is in Lindsay, California reporting on the new immigration bill. CNN, the Drive-By Media, is out scouting and scouring the country for Republicans that disagree with me on this.

RUSH ARCHIVE: If this immigration bill goes through, we are doomed.

GUTIERREZ: Ed Murray listens to Rush Limbaugh every single day.

RUSH ARCHIVE: We’re treating the illegals as though we are doing something wrong.

GUTIERREZ: Murray is the Republican Mayor of Lindsay, California.

MURRAY: I’m a member of the NRA. I’m definitely very conservative.

GUTIERREZ: But Murray says he and Rush part ways on one big issue, immigration. Lindsay is a rural farming community three hours north of LA. A national group voted it an all-American city. That doesn’t sit well with some people, because 80% of the people here are Latino, some here legally, some here illegally. Unlike most of his fellow conservatives, Mayor Murray will tell you immigrants are welcome here. The mayor says hard work is a core, conservative value he believes in even if it takes him down a different road from his beloved party.

RUSH: Well, I don’t doubt this. But I never once heard the mayor, Ed Murray, say that he disagreed with me. They said he did. The only thing Ed Murray said in this piece was, ‘I’m a member of the NRA,’ (Laughing) They had to throw that in. Are they not predictable? ‘I’m a member of the NRA. I’m definitely very conservative,’ but Gutierrez says, ‘he and Rush part ways.’ Anyway, here’s the Drive-By Media. CNN is out there scouting the country to find Republicans who disagree with me. Not senators. Not members of the House. Nobody from the Wall Street Journal editorial board. They’re out there scouring people who disagree with me on this. Now, why do you think that is, ladies and gentlemen? Why do you think? Well, do I have to be the one to say it? In fact, I won’t say it because the problem is once I say anything about anything, there is nothing left to be said about it and that freezes you out. So I will leave the question open if anybody wishes to take a stab at it in addition to whatever else you called about, feel free. Why is CNN and the Drive-Bys out there trying to find Republicans that disagree with me on the subject of immigration?

RUSH: Tony, I’m glad you called. Welcome to the EIB network.

CALLER: Good afternoon, Rush. I think I have the answer to your question.

RUSH: The question why CNN is out there scouring the country for Republicans that disagree with me on immigration?

CALLER: That’s correct.

RUSH: What’s your answer?

CALLER: Because your opinion is more important than the elected Republican leadership to the base.

RUSH: Wow, the first stab at it gets it right. Are you a subscriber to my website?

CALLER: No, sir.

RUSH: You have a computer?

CALLER: Yes, sir.

RUSH: You deserve a complimentary one year subscription. I’m going to throw in subscription to the Limbaugh Letter for one year and get you a Nobel Peace Prize nomination commemoration mug that we have available for new subscribers. You are a new comp subscriber. I’m going to throw one of those in for you.

CALLER: I love it.

RUSH: There is one other possible answer to it. Your answer is correct. But the other answer is that these people, like at the media, the Drive-By Media, are trying to portray people like me who oppose this legislation on illegal immigration as racist. We are yahoos, nativists, and so in the process of going out and trying to find Republicans whose disagree with me, they’re trying to make me look marginalized, make me look like I’m so extreme that not even mainstream Republicans in downtown America support me on this. It’s ultimately an effort to discredit me, but they couldn’t do that. They wouldn’t have to do that if your answer weren’t accurate in the first place.

CALLER: That’s exactly correct. I’m one of those yahoos with a Masters degree and I’m also Hispanic.

RUSH: Are you?

RUSH: Well it’s great to have you in this audience. What’s your Masters in?

CALLER: International relations.

RUSH: International relations. What are you doing in Orange Park, Florida?

CALLER: Well actually I fly airplanes.

RUSH: You manage an international house of pancakes I bet.

CALLER: That’s probably it, a restaurant.

RUSH: He said he had a Masters in International Relations. Anyway, Tony, hang on. Make these comps work and get the Nobel peace prize mug to your doorstep.
