RUSH: Bob Torricelli, meanwhile, on a blog called PoliticsNJ, is defending Larry Craig. ‘Let me be clear. I don’t like Larry Craig. He stands for everything that I abhor. … The more that you read about the arrest of Larry Craig in a Minneapolis airport restroom, the more troubling the situation becomes.’ Why would The Torch want to come out and defend Larry Craig? Perhaps, ladies and gentlemen, this little montage of Senator Torricelli’s April 18th, 2001, denial-of-charges with cut-ins from Brad Simon, the attorney for the guy accusing him, might explain it.

THE TORCH: To challenge my integrity is beneath contempt. I do not deserve this treatment.

SIMON: Two watches, a Rolex watch, diamond earrings for his girlfriend.

THE TORCH: I have never —

SIMON: A television set.

THE TORCH: ever —

SIMON: Oriental rug, grandfather clock, other antique items.

THE TORCH: done anything —

SIMON: Suits.

THE TORCH: at any time —

SIMON: Approximately 14 deliveries of envelopes of cash to Torricelli’s house.

THE TORCH: to betray the trust of the people of the state of New Jersey, never! (Pounding fist)

RUSH: He’s pounding. I think that was on the floor of the Senate. And, of course, Larry Craig is probably thinking, ‘This is just the guy I need in my corner, The Torch.’ One of our all-time favorite montages, ladies and gentlemen.
