Spitzer Busted in Prostitution Ring

by Rush Limbaugh - Mar 10,2008

RUSH: Everybody is trying to get my attention right before I went to commercial break, pointing to the TV and all that was on TV was commercials. So it wasn’t until I got to the break that I found out what was going on here. ‘Gov. Eliot Spitzer has informed his most senior administration officials that he had been involved in a prostitution ring… Spitzer was huddled with his top aides early this afternoon. He had hours earlier abruptly canceled his scheduled public events for the day.’ He was supposed to be making an announcement about 2:15 p.m. this afternoon from his Manhattan office. It hasn’t happened yet. Now, ‘Spitzer is a first-term Democrat pledged to bring ethics reform and the often seamy ways of Albany to an end.’ He’s married with three kids. If you haven’t followed this, you do not know how many people on Wall Street, if this is true, are celebrating. He tried to destroy so many honorable people on Wall Street, as part of his carnage trail to be elected governor. But there’s one thing you have to remember now here, before everybody gets all hot to trot here. Governor Spitzer is a Democrat. These things can be résumé enhancements in the Democrat Party.

So the question is: Will this prostitution ring story blow over, or will Spitzer himself be able to stay on top? But think about the effect on Hillary Clinton. This is one of her top supporters reminding the country about her husband! Stop and think. Look at it that way. ‘What do you mean, Rush? The Clintons are not part of a prostitution ring.’ Well, I know, but there was an endless parade of babes in and out the Oval Office and the governor’s mansion in Arkansas and so forth when Clinton was in both places. (laughs) Oh, man! Eliot Spitzer and a prostitution ring. So we’re waiting for his press conference — or not press conference, I guess his announcement — at 2:15 this afternoon, which, as yet, has not happened. ‘Mr. Spitzer gained national attention when he served as attorney general with his relentless pursuit of Wall Street wrongdoing. As attorney general, he also had prosecuted at least two prostitution rings as head of the state’s organized crime task force. In one such case in 2004, Mr. Spitzer spoke with revulsion and anger after announcing the arrest of 16 people for operating a high-end prostitution ring out of Staten Island. ‘This was a sophisticated and lucrative operation with a multitiered management structure,’ Mr. Spitzer said at the time. ‘It was, however, nothing more than a prostitution ring.” What’s the phrase they have out there, ‘hoisted by his own petard’?

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: What’s the big deal here about Spitzer and a prostitution ring? It’s not like he was tapping his toe in a men’s room or anything. For crying out loud, I mean we gotta keep a sense of proportion about this, folks.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Another thing on this Spitzer thing. These people on TV won’t leave this alone. Look, Fox hasn’t left it, CNBC’s awaiting Spitzer’s statement, MSNBC, this is a personal matter! It’s about sex. It’s a personal matter, and it has nothing to do with the way he’s governed. Do you think prostitution rings had any impact on his driver’s licenses for illegals program in New York? (laughing) I’m sorry, folks. I don’t think I’m pulling this off. I’m just trying to use all the Clinton arguments back during the Lewinsky days. It’s a private matter. It’s personal matter. None of our business. Everybody does it. He’s not tapping his toe in the bathroom, for crying out loud, in the airport. So what the hell?

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: It’s obvious, folks, Eliot Spitzer waiting for this show to end to start his 2:15 p.m. press conference. He’s already 35 minutes late. Hillary can help here. Mrs. Clinton can be of major assistance here, got lots of experience, the bimbo eruptions. She does, and you don’t know where this is coming from. Maybe one of the babes in prostitution ring talked and he’s got no choice here. You never know. She could go after the prostitutes for charging too much money, seducing men for a profit, suggesting that Spitzer was just doing the right thing trying to take their profits like a good Democrat liberal would. Hillary can then advise Spitzer’s wife how to play this. In this case, she’s got experience on how to handle something like this. She’s invaluable. She also can give him heads-up advice on going after these sex-crazed prosecutors, so forth and so on. By the time it’s all over, Spitzer could be the VP now. You never know. We’ll just have to wait and see.
