Coakley Aide Assaults Reporter; Democrats in Massachusetts Panic

by Rush Limbaugh - Jan 13,2010

RUSH: You know, this is amazing, folks. I don’t know if you know this or not, but last night Martha Coakley, the Democrat candidate in Massachusetts, was in Washington for a fundraiser, and the fundraiser was basically put on for her by insurance company and pharmaceutical lobbyists. I’m going to comment on that later, ’cause people are asking, ‘What in the world are these two groups trying to help a Democrat get elected for and maintain this stupid Obamacare?’ I’ll tell you what’s going on with that in just a second. But when she came out of a restaurant last night, she was followed by a reporter named John McCormack. He is from the Weekly Standard. He tried to ask her a question, and somebody came and shoved him to the sidewalk into a metal railing, and he fell down on the sidewalk, and then this same person…

This is a taught tactic. Then the same person goes up and says, ‘Oh, my God somebody fell!’ He goes down, helps the person up and then kept bumping the guy, the reporter, so he couldn’t get close to Coakley. Now, this was assault and battery. The video shows it. It was Michael Meehan, a Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee guy, ‘message expert.’ He’s been imported at the last moment here to try to help out the Coakley campaign. So he pushes him. The video is clear as a bell here. Pushes the reporter down to the sidewalk, then immediately helps him up, and keeps him away from Coakley. Coakley is an attorney general! She stood there and watched this whole thing take place and didn’t do anything about it. It’s like Eric Holder with the New Black Panther Party in Philadelphia. Now, I want you to listen to how the Boston Globe has reported this.

The headline: ‘Reporter Takes Stumble, Chasing Massachusetts Candidate.’ That’s not what happened! The reporter was pushed to the sidewalk. ‘A reporter trying to question Massachusetts Senate candidate Martha Coakley was involved in a scuffle with one of her aides. John McCormack of the Weekly Standard fell Tuesday night as he tried to speak with the Democrat while simultaneously videotaping her and trying to pass a metal grate on a Washington sidewalk. Photos and video of the incident show Coakley aide Michael Meehan trying to help McCormack up. A scuffle broke out as Meehan tried to block McCormack and determine if he was an operative of a rival campaign.’ He’s not an operative. He’s an accredited journalist. They know who he is. He’s the guy, by the way, that Dede Scozzafava called the cops on in New York 23 were approaching her as she tried to get in her car. This is just amazingly outrageous and hilarious.

RUSH: Now, back to this Coakley story. This Boston Globe story, it is comical. It is so wrong as to almost be a parody. See, this is exactly what’s wrong with print media. Everything that they write can be fact-checked by their readers. All one has to do is go to the Internet and look at the video and see that this reporter did not ‘fall down.’ He did not ‘stumble.’ He was pushed down by a guy named Michael Meehan (he’s been identified, or it’s pretty close) and then Meehan hurriedly, ‘Oh, ho-ho. Let me help you up, man. What happened here?’ and the way this is reported is just comical. ‘A reporter trying to question Massachusetts Senate candidate Martha Coakley was involved in a scuffle with one of her aides.’ So far so good. ‘John McCormack of the Weekly Standard fell Tuesday night as he tried to speak with the Democrat while simultaneously videotaping her and trying to pass a metal grate…’

He was pushed into the netal gate and then ended up ‘on a Washington sidewalk. Photos and video of the incident show Coakley aide Michael Meehan trying to help McCormack up.’ Yeah. That’s true. But the ‘photos and video of the incident’ also show Meehan pushing and shoving Coakley into the metal grate and to the sidewalk. ‘Meehan tried to block McCormack and determine if he was an operative of a rival campaign,’ when everybody knows he’s a journalist. He’s been asking questions in this campaign throughout. It’s a taught tactic. Now, something similar, ladies and gentlemen, has happened in the Gallup poll, the way something’s been reported here. In the Gallup poll, Obama’s ratings on the economy and health care have reached a new low in the Gallup poll. Do you know what their headline is? ‘Obama Approval on Terrorism Up to 49%. — ‘Americans’ views of Barack Obama’s handling of terrorism remain closely divided, but mark a slight improvement from before the Christmas Day bombing attempt, with more Americans now approving than disapproving of how he is handling the issue. … While Obama’s approval rating on terrorism has inched up, his approval ratings for handling the economy and healthcare have declined slightly since they were last measured, in late November. His current 40% approval rating on the economy and 37% rating on healthcare are the lowest of his presidency to date.’ Just a slight decline, just a slight decline out there. Oh! But he’s really, really up on terrorism. So two great examples here of how the bad news is, in the Gallup poll, buried. Well, it’s not buried but it doesn’t lead, the terrorism stuff does. And this Boston Globe story on this incident with Meehan and McCormack is just comical. And as I say, it is exactly why they’re having big problem.

RUSH: F. Chuck Todd on MSNBC, he’s the political director. He was on MSNBC’s Daily Rundown show this morning and he actually suggested an ad that Martha Coakley could run in her campaign against Scott Brown.

TODD: Another sign this race is finally getting even more national attention: Rush Limbaugh weighed in on his radio show.

RUSH ARCHIVE: [S]he is the entrenched machine candidate here. She’s attorney general, or has been. I never heard of her until all this got started, but, at any rate, she’s just a sock puppet for Harry Reid and the Democrats.

TODD: Well, we shall see. I’m guessing that Rush Limbaugh SOT might find its way into a Democratic ad soon.

RUSH: That’s Rush Limbaugh’s SOT, that’s S-O-T. It’s an abbreviation for ‘sound on tape’ in the television business. So F. Chuck is suggesting here that Coakley put that comment of mine in an ad that she’s ‘just a sock puppet for the Harry Reid and the Democrats.’ I tell you what we actually need, folks, what we actually need is Obama going up there and as many Democrats as possible going up there to endorse and campaign for this woman because that would kill it. There’s so much anti-incumbent, anti-Democrat, anti-political establishment, anti-machine sentiment up there that it would be great. From The Plum Line, Greg Sargent’s blog, I think at the Washington Post, although I think he’s blogging there. He might still have his independent blog.

‘In a sign of serious worry about the increasingly tense battle for Ted Kennedy’s seat, the Democratic National Committee and the Martha Coakley campaign have blasted a private memo to top national Dem donors claiming internal polling shows the race is ‘very tight’ and making an ‘urgent’ appeal for donations. The memo, which was sent over by a source, is the latest sign that the campaign surge of GOPer Scott Brown has caught the Dem establishment off guard. It admits that the mobilization by big national conservative groups for Brown is ‘working’ and acknowledges that the Dem campaign is ‘having trouble moving independents.” They are losing independents. In Massachusetts, Republicans are not particularly popular. The hardcore Republicans, of course, are going to be on board; and the hardcore Democrats are going to be on board for Coakley. But the independents are moving.

This is a nationwide trend. It happened in the elections in Virginia and New Jersey. Independents are moving in droves to the Republicans. ”Our internal polling shows the race to be a very tight race that means we must do everything we can to ensure we are victorious,’ reads the memo … ‘This additional assistance being spent on Brown’s behalf seems to be working,’ the memo continues, alluding to outside cash being spent by groups such as the US Chamber of Commerce and the Club for Growth. … The memo’s claim that the Coakley campaign’s internal polling shows the race to be ‘very tight’ appears at odds with another leaked internal Dem poll that showed Coakley with a double-digit lead. Separately, Ben Smith [of Politico] reports that the DNC is poised to sink $500,000 into the race — still another sign that national Dems see the need for an urgent last-minute push to salvage Kennedy’s seat,’ but as Scott Brown said yesterday: ‘It’s not Kennedy’s seat and it’s not the Democrats’ seat. It’s the people’s seat,’ and then there’s the update:

‘On a private conference call with top Dem donors today, Martha Coakley acknowledged that Scott Brown’s surge has been ‘frightening.” Frightening. Urgent. Frightening. Very close. Worry. It’s a real battle. Things are not well. This incident, by the way, with this Meehan clown pushing the reporter to the sidewalk and into that metal grate — or gate, whatever it was, metal railing — Michael Graham in a blog post at The Corner says this is symbolic. This is symbolic of the way the people are being pushed around by Democrats all over this country. The people of this country are being pushed around. They don’t want health care. They don’t want cap and trade. They don’t want global warming. They don’t want any of it and yet the Democrats are doing it anyway. We’re all just being pushed around, and here it happened for one and all to see in Massachusetts.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: How panicked are the Democrats at the prospect that Scott Brown will do the unthinkable and win the special election for the open Senate seat in Massachusetts next Tuesday? Enough that — and I love this — enough that Harry Reid, despite his desperate fight to save his own job in Nevada, has returned to Washington to do what he can to help the hapless Democrat candidate, the charisma-deprived Martha Coakley hang on; enough that NBC political director F. Chuck Todd describes top Democrats as having a huge concern over the Massachusetts race. Here is F. Chuck Todd talking with Savannah Guthrie today about the Massachusetts race.

TODD: Democrats are in full-fledged panic mode. This isn’t about losing their 60th vote in the Senate. This is about losing health care. They know it. If Coakley loses, health care’s dead, and it would make 2009 seem like a domestic policy disaster both for this White House and the Democratic Party. That’s why it’s all hands on deck now in Massachusetts, six days to go, Savannah.

GUTHRIE: We’ll see if the president gets up there and campaigns for Coakley, Chuck —

RUSH: Oh, please, please do. Please take Air Force One and load it up, take Michelle (My Belle), take Harry Reid, take ’em all up there, get Barney Frank on the case. Get ’em all up there, get Chris Dodd. Oh, yeah. See, it’s all about health care. Yesterday we shared with you polling news that Democrats in the House who did not vote for health care are doing fine in their reelection efforts. The dirty little secret is — and I’ve been very compassionate here, folks. I’ve been warning the Blue Dog Democrats, I said, ‘Look, Nancy Pelosi wants you outta there, she doesn’t like you being there, she’s willing to lose this big majority she’s got to get rid of you.’ You can’t have it both ways. You can’t go home and claim to be fiscally conservative and moderate and all that rot and vote for this. And if you do vote for it you are guaranteed to lose your reelection effort. And yet here’s F. Chuck Todd: ‘If Coakley loses, health care is dead, it would make 2009 seem like a domestic policy disaster.’

The dirty little secret is that Democrats are safe if this thing goes down. I mean, the far left in some places are going to be very upset. But there’s much less political fallout if this fails. See, that’s the dirty little secret. Obama doesn’t care. He doesn’t care who he destroys. He doesn’t care what happens to the Democrat Party. In fact, there’s a part of me that believes Obama wouldn’t mind the Republicans taking over the House, and I’ve said this before. (interruption) Oh, you don’t think that’s right? What’s his number one tactic, Dawn? He’s still blaming Bush. To have the Republicans to blame for standing in his way, oh, I think he would love it. Do you think he likes the position he’s in now? He owns both chambers and can’t get anything done?

RUSH: The Boston Globe has taken down the story after I read the story. They’ve taken it down. I put it somewhere in the stack. They have replaced the story after my monologue. The Boston Globe. This is the story about John McCormack, who is the reporter from the Weekly Standard following Martha Coakley outside her lobbyist-fundraiser dinner last night in Washington. He was pushed down to the ground and into a metal railing by Michael Meehan, who has recently been hired by her campaign to help her messaging, and she watched it all. She saw it all happen. She made no effort to stop it. This is a taught tactic. You push somebody down and then you run in and you ‘help’ ’em up, and the Boston Globe reported that this poor guy, McCormack, was trying to do too many things at once and he just fell.

They then reported that Meehan — Oh, he was a good Samaritan! — helped him up. Well, now they’ve replaced the story and the headline: ‘Weekly Standard Reporter Says He was Pushed by Coakley Aide — A reporter for a conservative magazine says he was pushed by someone from the US Senate campaign of Democrat Martha Coakley as he followed her and tried to ask her questions when she was leaving a fund-raiser at a Washington restaurant Tuesday night. John McCormack of the Weekly Standard gave his version of the incident…’ It’s on YouTube, for crying out loud! There’s no ‘version.’ It’s on YouTube. I have seen it; I have watched it. I have described it exactly as you would see it if you watched it. Anyway, my friends, I have a question about this.

Michael Graham at National Review Online mentioned that this could be a turning point in the campaign, because it’s symbolic here of the way Democrats are pushing all of us around and bullying everybody. But aren’t we told, ladies and gentlemen, that independents want everybody to get along, and they don’t like acrimony. No, no, no, no, no! We are told that if Republicans ever utter a critical word — just one critical word of Obama — that’s it! They’re gonna run fast as they can to the Democrat Party. McCain believed it. That’s why any time there was any criticism of Obama and his campaign, whoever did the criticism was denounced and in some cases canned. The moderate Republicans have fallen for this myth that’s been put out by the Democrats. So if that’s the case, these independents who are already trending toward Scott Brown are not going to like this incident, are they? A thug actually pushing a journalist to the sidewalk.

And an interesting question that I might ask: Where is Martha Coakley’s statement on this? She saw it. She’s a witness. And where is the media demanding that she make one about her aide attacking a reporter? A reporter! I thought reporters circled the wagons. When Dan Rather ran fake quotes, fake reports, fake stories, Peter Jennings and Tom Brokaw circled the wagons and gave him some makeshift award. They circle the wagons! You know, there’s even an organization to protect the safety of journalists who get killed or wounded ‘in action,’ quote, unquote. Where are the media? One of their own was bullied, was literally shoved to the ground. It happened last night right before Martha Coakley’s eyes. She is an attorney general. She witnessed assault and battery. She should say something about it.

At least she could say that her aide ‘acted stupidly,’ like Obama accused the cop in Cambridge. At least she could say that the aide was stupid here, because the aide clearly was. I’ll tell you something else, folks. I strategically and purposefully stayed out of this race in every way, shape, manner, or form; and I did it for reasons I announced yesterday. I didn’t mention the big fundraising day that he had on Monday. I didn’t mention the huge turn that was happening in the last two weeks in polling data. I didn’t say a word about it because if I had, they would have simply diminished what he was accomplishing by saying, ‘Well, of course he’s raising a lot of money. Limbaugh is asking his mind-numbed robots to send money. Well, hell, if I had an audience of 22 million and asked them to send money, I’d raise it, too. Of course anybody could!’

I didn’t want to be able to say that. I wanted it to be genuine. I wanted it to appear as though it was grassroots just like the tea party movement, just like all those appearances at the town hall meetings last August. ‘Cause that’s important. And yet they put me in this race anyway. Their first negative ad puts me in the commercial. Martha Coakley’s ad. And they think that that’s going to help them. There were pictures of Bush and Cheney and then me and Mitch McConnell, and the dirty word in the ad was ‘Republican.’ Then F. Chuck Todd — go back and grab sound bite six. After they dragged me into the campaign and I thus began talking about it, F. Chuck Todd on MSNBC said this.

I’m guessing that Rush Limbaugh SOT might its way into a Democratic ad soon.

RUSH: So here’s F. Chuck Todd. (‘SOT’ again is ‘sound on tape.’ It’s an acronym.) F. Chuck is suggesting that they make another commercial with me in it, with that she’s just going to be a sock puppet for the Democrats. Do it! The Democrats in Massachusetts deserve to know this. I have, ladies and gentlemen, sent to me by somebody — we have spies everywhere out there, and I have spies that are on the Daily Kos list, all these people send out fundraising letters. Somebody’s on JohnKerry.com, a good friend of mine. Here’s Kerry. I’m sure this is a letter he never in his wildest dreams imagined writing. ‘Hello Robert, Not a lot of time left, so here are the three quick reasons why I need you to dig deep and help Martha Coakley…’ You guys, Senator, you’re asking for a lot here. You’re asking to bail out Haiti. You’re asking people to bail out banks and bail out companies, and now you want them to bail out Coakley. Another Democrat bailout!

Do you never stop asking people for money, especially when they don’t have any because you have taken their job away? At any rate, ‘I need you to dig deep and help Martha Coakley in these final crucial days in her slugfest down to the wire battle against the national Republican Party and the powerful special interest bankrolling his campaign…’ Meanwhile, she has the fundraiser last night bankrolled by Big Pharma and Big Health Insurance. More on that as the program unfolds. Here are the three reasons cited by Kerry (who served, by the way, in Vietnam). 1. It’s not the Massachusetts way to see the seat Ted Kennedy served in for 47 years handed off to someone who has pledged again and again to destroy Ted’s life’s work — health care reform. 2. It’s wrong to allow Republican money to pour into Massachusetts at the last moment to distort, deceive, and divide the way to a Republican win. But the anonymously funded, shadowy right-wing groups are blanketing the air with ads attacking Martha Coakley.’

She started the negative ads! ‘[T]hey’re counting on you taking a pass on this race. 3. Jobs, Jobs, Jobs. We were losing 800,000 jobs a month under George W. Bush, and Martha Coakley’s opponent didn’t stand up and fight. … Those are the stakes — I need you to contribute what you can to help’ before you send money to Haiti. There’s ‘No time left for excuses.’ ‘The Republican Party drove us into a ditch, and we’re not going to let them stop us as we climb our way out of it. Thank you for all you’ve done.’ I mean it’s just… (laughing) It’s the exact opposite of what’s actually happened.

RUSH: Can we play F. Chuck Todd again from this morning, MSNBC, audio sound bite number six.

RUSH: Jessica Van Sack, Boston Herald, added 15 minutes ago: ‘Rush Limbaugh Blasts AG Martha Coakley as Dem ‘Sock Puppet’ — The seemingly tightening race for US Senate gained national steam yesterday as conservative radio yakker Rush Limbaugh took to the airwaves to blast Martha Coakley as an ‘entrenched machine candidate’ and a ‘sock puppet’ for Washington Democrats.’ So F. Chuck Todd says it on TV and the Boston Herald picks it up in mere moments. ‘Limbaugh’s assault on the Democratic attorney general came at the top of his broadcast — and after Coakley used a picture of him in a negative ad targeting GOP opponent Scott Brown as a ‘lockstep’ Republican. Limbaugh, who said he had ‘purposely’ stayed out of the race, could not resist responding.’ Yeah, that’s right. (laughing) That’s what it says here: ‘Limbaugh’s assault on the Democrat attorney general…’ (interruption) What was that? That’s right. (interruption) The only assault has been on the reporter! Assault? ‘Limbaugh’s assault on the Democratic attorney general…’ Look, I was minding my own business, staying out of this. They dragged me into this.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: All right. Last night, Greta Van Susteren’s show on Fox News Channel, the correspondent Griff Jenkins interviewed Martha Coakley. Jenkins was with John McCormack of the Weekly Standard, the guy that got shoved down by this Meehan clown. McCormack asked her a question again about Afghanistan. He’s the one that said: ‘Do you stand by your statement that there are no terrorists left in Afghanistan?’ She said, ‘Does anybody else have a question?’ and Griff Jenkins said, ‘Yeah, I have a question: Why are you in Washington tonight?’

COAKLEY: We planned an event after the primary that would be a unity event in Washington. We’re also in the middle of a very intense campaign, and we are facing a candidate from Massachusetts who’s being supported by extreme-right groups, um…including many Republican groups that are pouring money into Massachusetts, attacking my record and distorting my record.

RUSH: And there’s a new ad here. They put me in their first attack ad, and now they have added Sarah Palin. Here’s the audio…

ANNOUNCER: (dramatic music) Before you vote for Senate, here’s a few things you should know about Scott Brown. He calls himself independent but voted with Republican leadership 96% of the time. Brown has repeatedly opposed a woman’s right to choose. And now the Globe says Brown expresses skepticism that climate change is being caused by humans! No wonder Brown’s campaign is being supported by the same extremist group that backed Sarah Palin.

RUSH: The same extremist group…? What ‘extremist group’ is that? And you notice here these guys haven’t caught on that global warming, man-made, is a hoax? By the way, since when does AP (you know, in that story on Obama and his $33 billion more for war, $708 billion total for the defense department) ever use the word ‘unpopular’? They’ve never done that. Do they ever say ‘unpopular health care plan’? Because it clearly is. I mean the health care plan is clearly more ‘unpopular’ than the war on terror, for crying out loud. Anyway, negative attack ads mount. They’re going after Sarah Palin and ‘extreme right-wing groups.’ Listen to this. This is a portion of a new ad for Martha Coakley, paid for by the Democrat National Committee.

ANNOUNCER: (dramatic music) He drives around in a pickup truck, but you gotta look under the hood to find the reeeeal Scott Brown. On health care Brown wants to be the deciding vote to kill Ted Kennedy’s legislation.

RUSH: Awwwww! He wants to kill Ted Kennedy’s legislation! He wants to kill Ted Kennedy’s legislation. And Doug Flutie, a New England football hero, is working for Scott Brown and endorsed him.

FLUTIE: I definitely support Scott Brown. He would be an independent voice down in Washington. He’s a great family man, a friend, a guy I trust a hundred percent.

RUSH: They love Flutie up there and so Flutie is on board with Scott Brown. Well, they’ll probably attack Flutie for never winning a Super Bowl or some such thing (laughing) or being too short to ever really succeed as a quarterback in the NFL. Whatever. I mean, they’re attacking anybody that supports Scott Brown. ‘He played in Canada! What does he know about Boston? He played in Miami. He played for Buffalo. What does he know about us?’

Let’s see. Barney Frank denies that the Democrats will delay the swearing in of Scott Brown if he wins. Last night in Washington a reporter said, ‘What about the assertion that if Mr. Brown were to win, the Massachusetts Democrats would find a way to not certify him?’

FRANK: That’s the stupidest thing I’ve been asked in a long time. Who do you work for?

FEMALE REPORTER: The Washington Times.

FRANK: I’m not surprised. (snickers) That is insane. The suggestion could only come from a demented right-wing source. There isn’t the slightest possibility of it happening, no way of doing it. That is conspiracy theory and it’s most contemptible.

RUSH: Well, now I gotta find out who mentioned this, because I always thought that the Democrats were the ones talking about doing this, the Democrats in Massachusetts. Barney, look, they threw out a law on special elections and just chose Paul Kirk to sit in for Ted Kennedy once he passed away. The law called for a special election and they switched out on a dime. So anyway, ‘Who do you work for?’ ‘Washington Times.’ ‘I’m not th’prised! This is insane! The th’ugeth’ton could only come from a demented right wing th’ource.’ (laughing) Oh, I love these guys. I do. I love to laugh at them. I know they’re dangerous, but sometimes, folks, all you can do is laugh at them.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: We have been doing a little deep digging here, ladies and gentlemen, because Barney Frank said (imitating Frank) ‘Stupidest thing I’ve heard in a long time, who do you work for?’ ‘Washington Times.’ ‘I’m not surprised, this could only come from a demented right-wing source.’ Well, it turns out that it’s the media and Paul Kirk, the current occupant of the seat. From the Boston Herald, January 9th: ‘Scott Brown Swearing-In Would be Stalled to Pass Health-Care Reform — It looks like the fix is in on national health-care reform — and it all may unfold on Beacon Hill. At a business forum in Boston Friday, interim Sen. Paul Kirk predicted that Congress would pass a health-care reform bill this month. ‘We want to get this resolved before President Obama’s State of the Union address in early to mid-February,’ Kirk told reporters at a Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce breakfast.’ A longtime aide and confidante of the late Senator Kennedy vowed to vote for the bill even if Scott Brown wins. ”Absolutely,’ Kirk said, when asked if he’d vote for the bill, even if Brown captures the seat. ‘It would be my responsibility as United States senator, representing the people and understanding Senator Kennedy’s agenda. … I think you’re asking me a hypothetical question but I’d be pleased to vote for the bill.”

There are numerous stories here. ‘Is Brown Tied with Coakley in Mass.?’ In the story: ‘If they lose the seat, it would cost them their 60 seat supermajority and possibly complicate their plans to pass healthcare, depending on when Brown would be sworn in.’ Politico: ‘Massachusetts Election has Democrats on Edge — Democrats could drag out seating Brown, thanks to a 15-day waiting period to send results to the secretary of state and, then, no deadline for state officials to formally declare a winner.’ ‘Massachusetts Senate Race Unnerves Democrats,’ State-Controlled Reuters. ‘With healthcare reform in the balance, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is staying mum on whether he would seat Brown immediately, should an upset occur, or delay certification until the Democrats can pass their bill.’ So you got Paul Kirk and you’ve got Dingy Harry and you’ve got media members, Mr. Frank, speculating on this. (imitating Frank) ‘It’s the craziest thing I’ve ever heard. It’s not possible, not the slightest possibility of having a way of doing this, it’s a conspiracy theory.’

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Well, looky here. The Boston Herald, breaking news: ‘State Attorney General Martha Coakley blamed GOP ‘stalkers’ today for triggering tensions outside a Washington, DC, fund-raiser last night where a Weekly Standard reporter said he was roughed up by a Coakley campaign volunteer. … Coakley said she is not ‘privy’ to the –‘ She saw it! ‘Coakley said she is not ‘privy’ to the facts surrounding the incident involving reporter John McCormack last night, who wrote about the episode outside the Sonoma restaurant in Washington, DC in an online dispatch titled: ‘We Report, We Get Pushed.’ McCormack wrote he was pushed to the ground by a man he says is linked to Coakley’s campaign while he was asking her questions. ‘I know there were people following, including two from the Brown campaign who have been very aggressive in their stalking,’ Coakley told reporters during an appearance at Kit Clark Senior Services in Dorchester. ‘I’m not sure what happened. I know something occurred, but I’m not privy –‘ The picture, there is a still shot — may have been taken from the video — that shows her looking at the reporter on the sidewalk after he’s been pushed down.

These people at the Boston media are monitoring this program and adjusting their coverage. There are three versions of this now in one show. Now we got Republican stalkers. The original Boston Globe story was the guy slipped and was helped up by the campaign worker. Then they ditched that and ran the story that this reporter says he was pushed, but he just says it. Now, normally if a reporter says he was pushed, then the reporter community circles the wagons and gets mad at whoever pushed. But this guy worked for the Weekly Standard and can’t have that. They’re not really reporters. They’re stalkers at a conservative magazine.

RUSH: Bill in Chicago, thanks for calling, sir, nice to have you with us.

CALLER: Rush, it’s great to be here.

RUSH: Thank you.

CALLER: It’s an honor to speak with you. Happy birthday, glad you’re healthy.

RUSH: Thank you, sir.

CALLER: To my point here. Coakley said that there are no terrorists in Afghanistan. Well, she should know because it’s obvious the terrorists are working for her. This guy that pushed down this Weekly Standard gentleman yesterday, he’s a terrorist because what he did, he pushed this guy down to give warning to all other reporters, stay away from us and don’t ask bad questions. That’s terrorism. It’s no different than when the SEIU thug beat up the black conservative man selling buttons on the street, and it’s no different than the man who got his finger bit off at a rally. These people are terrorists, and they need to be called out on it.

RUSH: That’s actually a passionately made good point.

CALLER: Thank you.

RUSH: And this guy Meehan, he’s been appointed by the Obama administration to some agency that oversees Radio Used-to-Be-Free America, and some other thing. He’s worked for the Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee. He’s a Democrat operative. He’s been sent up there this week to help get her pack on message because she doesn’t have a message other than: I’m a Democrat, it’s Ted Kennedy’s seat and I’m going to vote for health care. I’m a sock puppet. And they’re in trouble up there. This race is much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much closer than they ever dreamed or imagined that it would be. And she witnessed it, act of terrorism. It’s a taught tactic, though, folks, it’s a taught technique. You shove somebody down to the ground and you immediately be the one to help ’em up. ‘Oh, my God, what happened here, let me help you up,’ and then when you get ’em up you keep jostling them to keep them away from whoever. It’s a tactic that security people use against somebody who’s a genuine threat. This guy was just a reporter asking questions.

RUSH: This may be pretty big. This may be pretty big. ‘Against a backdrop of several chilly city police officers at police headquarters, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Scott Brown today accepted the endorsement of the Worcester department’s two major unions. Local 911 New England Police Benevolent Association and Local 504 the International Brotherhood of Police Officers handed their endorsements to Mr. Brown one day after a debate.’ These are the Worcester, Massachusetts, police unions. For those of you this Rio Linda it’s ‘Wor-ches-ter’ pronounced ‘Wooster’ up there. Now, this… Worcester is a pretty liberal place, as most places in Massachusetts are. This is not going to sit well. This is not going to sit well whatsoever. Couldn’t somebody ask Martha Coakley to at least comment on the reporter that was shoved down? She was standing right there and she claims, ‘I knew there was a ruckus and we’re being stalked.’ That is right! Hey, I thought in this year Obama was going to focus on bringing everybody together. But I guess what Coakley is implementing is Obama’s technique: ‘You hit us and we hit back twice as hard.’
