This week, folks, Connecticut voters and officials were taken by surprise. Although homeowners and businesses sustained massive damage in last month’s record-breaking floods,President Obama has denied their request for federal assistance.

In Stonington, a small town that suffered over $2 million in damage, a local official called Obama’s decision “disgraceful,” especially since FEMA officials toured the area and reassured him that help was on the way. Governor Jodi Rell said thatshe’ll appeal the hard-hearted ruling. (Good luck, Governor.)

Meanwhile this week, President Obama announced a new entrepreneurial exchange program with Muslim countries. “We know that over the years, despite all we have in common, the United States and Muslim communities around the world too often fell victim to mutual mistrust,” said Obama. “We will bring business and social entrepreneurs from Muslim-majority countries to the United States and send their American counterparts to learn from your countries.”

Finally, this item. North of flood-ravaged Connecticut,in Boston,Democrats have allocated some $38 million to build a shrine to Ted Kennedy. The Edward M. Kennedy Institute will be built on the campus of the University of Massachusetts. But $38 million is not enough, though, for congressional Democrats; they’re trying to raise the approved price tag by at least $20 million. No indication yet that the wealthy Kennedy family will foot any of the bill, or whether there will be aMary Jo Kopechne Memorial Wing.

But one thing is clear:Democrats dohave their priorities here in place, don’t they?
