RUSH: Here’s Ken in Westchester, Illinois. It’s great to have you on the EIB Network, sir. Hello.

CALLER: Hi. Thanks for receiving my call. I’m a Marine veteran and a member of the American Legion, and May 27th, 28th, and half a day on the 29th, they will be distributing poppies to raise money to help out —

RUSH: Wait a second.

CALLER: Yes, sir?

RUSH: Poppies?

CALLER: Poppies, yes. Poppies were established in 1919 after World War I.

RUSH: Oh, those poppies.

CALLER: Yes, sir.

RUSH: I was gonna say.

CALLER: Well, anyway, they established it back in 1919, and what — the poppies are made by hospitalized veterans.

RUSH: Ah, got it. Yes.

CALLER: And then we distribute them, we take the donations, and in turn we re-donate what the hospital needs or the veterans home needs. My particular post shares it with a veterans home in Encino, Illinois, or in Hines Hospital in I believe it’s Bellwood. Let’s see. I had a voter donate last year and —

RUSH: This is all part of the buildup to Memorial Day, right?

CALLER: Yes, sir. Let’s see. A gentleman told me, ‘Fifty years ago if you didn’t have a poppy you were a bum. Today nobody’s aware of it,’ and, anyway, I was hoping that you could help us out a little bit by giving us a plug — and then I have one question for you.

RUSH: Well, you just gave yourself a good plug.

CALLER: Well, thank you, sir. I’d like to know how long you take to prepare for a program.

RUSH: It never stops.

CALLER: Oh, okay. (chuckles) We’re a subscriber to your newsletter and my wife has a Rush Babe sticker in her sticker window. You’re part of the family.

RUSH: Well, God bless you, sir — and I mean for your work with the military, your American Legion work qualifies you for God blesses —

CALLER: Thank you.

RUSH: — from now to the end of your life which hopefully will be eternal for you.

CALLER: Thank you.

RUSH: Thanks very much for the call.
