Days ago, Washington Democrats raided the Food Stamps program and spent $16 billion for another bailout for unions. First in line: teacher’s unions.

As usual, Democrats claimed the bailout had to happen “right now” – to avoid catastrophe. And as usual, Democrats tried to paint Republicans as the villains. Nancy Pelosi accused the GOP of wanting to send over 300,000 teachers to the unemployment line. Obama said, “We can’t stand by and do nothing while pink slips are given to the men and women who educate our children that doesn’t make sense.”

So. They got the money. But now that it’s in the bank, the New York Times reports that “some of the nation’s biggest school districts are balking at using their share of the money to hire teachers right away.”

The Los Angeles Unified School District, for instance, laid off teachers in the spring – but they’re not planning to hire any of them back for the new school year. Instead, they want to hoard the dough – sock it way to put toward next year’s budget.

Los Angeles isn’t alone. In state after state, school districts are planning to use their share of the bailout money as their own private slush fund or hedge fund. They’ve got a new pot of money, and they’re going to hold onto it for as long as they can.

In short, Democrats sold America a fraudulent bill of goods. Yet again.
