State budgets are bleeding out, and the federal government is trillions of dollars in debt. So what does AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka want? Well, he’s calling on politicians to spend even more.

In a National Press Club speech last week, Trumka accused Washington of living in “an Alice-in-Wonderland political climate.” By that he means the rich get tax cuts, but “we cannot fund the basic functions of government let alone invest to build the infrastructure of the future.”

Trumka claims thatAmerica’s falling behind in the global economy because our “transnational business titans” have convinced politicians “that our national strength lies in their profits, not our jobs.” He also accused politicians of “destroying our public institutions, crushing working people’s rights and living standards,” and of “failing to invest in education.” Trumka claims that will result in “catastrophe.” Instead, we should be spending more money on public works projectsto create jobs.

The truth is, behind every bankrupt state budget and every federal Big Government program threatening to push us over the financial cliff, you will find two things:uncontrolled spending, andunions. Now, with government spending threatening to ruin our national foundation, Trumka insists that we spend even more money thatwe don’t haveto satisfy his craving for political power and job security for the very unions bankrupting this country.

Mr. Trumka, the Big Labor union party is over, and no amount of whining is going to turn back the clock. Time to deal with it.Heh-heh-heh.
