RUSH: I’m still thinking about that Audi ad last night, because at the end of the day it leaves you with the thought that there’s a great product out there. From a pure business standpoint…. Also… I really don’t talk about myself much as you people know. But it is now A-okay to make fun of the left. But it used to not be fun to make fun of the left. You used to not be able to do that, but then some guy started a radio show and started making fun of them: ‘the environmentalist wackos,’ ‘the feminazis.’ He started doing satire and parodies about all these people, and everybody was shocked.

‘You just can’t do that! You can’t do it.’

‘Why not? They’re making fun of us all these years.’

‘Well, you can’t! Our positions are morally superior. Our positions are sacred. You can’t make fun of us! Our work is too serious.’

‘Your work is a joke! Your work is dishonest. The satire is easy. It’s simply telling everybody who you really are and what you’re really all about,’ and the left to this day still has no sense of humor. This business of Rahm Emanuel using ‘F-ing retarded’ to describe his own radical leftist Democrats for getting in the way on health care and so forth… I never used the word. I never once used the word! It never crosses my mind to use the word. Yet Rahm Emanuel did it. So because Sarah Palin said, ‘This is making fun of people,’ I decided, ‘Well, if it’s okay for the Democrats to do it, and the Democrats are out there defending Emanuel, then, okay: I’ll go ahead and do it,’ and everybody in this audience knew full well what I was doing: Having fun with a Democrat finally in the same position they always put us in.

You know, they’re the PC Police, and they hammer us outta office. They drive us out of our careers when we violate their speech codes. So here is Rahm Emanuel stepping in it big time, and I thought I would just make fun of it. And you wouldn’t believe the left out there thinks — independently of Emanuel — that I started using the word and that Sarah Palin should demand that I get fired, just like she did of Emanuel (or apologize), when I was clearly making fun of Emanuel and everybody in this audience knew it. I actually think that most on the left know it, too. They just love all this feigned, faked outrage and they love using the Speech Police to drum people like me out of our work or out of office or what have you. In fact, let’s grab number 27 first, Mike, before we get back in order at number three. Even today, on The View, Barbara Walters and Whoopi Goldberg were talking about me as though Rahm Emanuel had nothing to do with what I was doing.

WALTERS: In this interview, they talked about Rush Limbaugh. Rush Limbaugh was using satire. Rahm Emanuel should be fired. Rush Limbaugh was using satire?

GOLDBERG: Yeah, well, when he appears at Caroline’s, the comedy club, I’ll believe it was satirical.

RUSH: I love these people. So you have to go to a comedy club to use satire? You have to be a comedian to get away with satire. (interruption) That was this morning, Snerdley. That was the Whoopi Goldberg who did that fundraiser for John Kerry. Yeah, that’s the same Whoopi Goldberg who used the F-bomb I think a number of times at a fundraiser at Radio City Music Hall for John Kerry (who served in Vietnam). Yeah, it’s the same Whoopi Goldberg. (laughing) (interruption) I know. They really do. The liberal mind — you know, it scares me I understand it. It really frightens me I understand it, because I predicted this is going to happen! I predict it every time we do it. I predict what’s going to happen, and it happens. So here’s what they’re talking about on Sarah Palin, Fox News Sunday yesterday. She and Chris Wallace had a discussion about this. It’s two sound bites.

WALLACE: Rush Limbaugh weighed in this week and he said this: ‘Our politically correct society is acting like some giant insult has taken place by calling a bunch of people who are retards, ‘retards.”

PALIN: He was satirical on that.

WALLACE: Wait! Let me finish!

PALIN: Okay.

WALLACE: ‘I mean these people, these liberal activists, are kooks.’ Should Rush Limbaugh apologize?

PALIN: They are kooks, so I agree with Rush Limbaugh. Rush Limbaugh was using satire to bring attention to what this politically correct —

WALLACE: But he used the R-word!

PALIN: He was using satire. Name-calling by anyone — I teach this to my children; you teach it to your children and your grandchildren, too. Name-calling by anyone, it’s just unnecessary. It just wastes time.

RUSH: Wallace kept going, but Palin stuck to her guns.

PALIN: I didn’t hear Rush Limbaugh calling a group of people whom he did not agree with ‘F-ing retard,’ and we did know that Rahm Emanuel — it’s been reported — did say that. There’s a big difference there. But again, name-calling, using language that is insensitive by anyone — male, female, Republican, Democrat — it’s unnecessary, it’s inappropriate and let’s all just grow up.

RUSH: Yes. So there you have it.: Sarah Palin sticking to her guns there And it did not die. It was going on all weekend; it was happening on Friday. This was this morning. The guest Political Capital host Al Hunt and the anchor babe Betty Liu says, ‘Moving on Sarah Palin on the tea party convention, mocking Obama. Is she serious about a presidential run?’

HUNT: This weekend demonstrated two things about Sarah Palin: What a terrific performer she is. She gave a very effective speech. She had some great lines. She delivered them very effectively. She got in trouble, however, on another issue where she said Rahm Emanuel ought to resign because he used the word ‘retard,’ and then Rush Limbaugh said something far, far worse and intentional as opposed to Emanuel, and she sort of took a dive on Rush Limbaugh. It shows she can’t quite hit big league pitching when it’s not put down the middle for her.

RUSH: (laughing) Far, far worse? (laughing) I quoted him. You know what, they’ve moved on. They have moved on, but they are livid. The left is livid over a picture in which she had written some crib notes in the palm of her hand. They were just little reminders of areas to discuss. You know, they used to make fun of Reagan for having index cards to remind himself of where he was going. Of course their guy can’t even make sense without a teleprompter, and even with the right words on the teleprompter he still doesn’t know how to pronounce them, as in ‘corpse-man.’ Three times he said ‘corpse-man.’ So here these spoiled brat, whiny little R-words are sitting there upset that Sarah Palin had some little notes on her hand. Well, Sarah Palin might have the Media Tweak of the Day because she’s in a campaign appearance with Rick Perry, the governor of Texas. She has written ‘Hi, mom’ on her palm, as a reminder to say hi to mom. She says, ‘It’s right there.’ She’s holding it up for everybody to see, clapping her hands. The media can see it. These people are so easy to tweak and make fun of, and I’m glad that somebody besides me has learned how to do it, ’cause it just agitates them even further. It just irritates them all the more. Here’s CNN. They have a stalker at CNN who does nothing but follow me around: Carol Costello. She’s a figurative stalker. She’s not actually tried to get in my gate…yet. Don’t misunderstand. (laughing) We have a montage of a Carol Costello reporting about the R-word. You’ll hear some other people in this as well.

COSTELLO: The president’s chief of staff called liberal Democrats ‘F-ing retarded.’ A Huffington Post columnist joked Sarah Palin would run on ‘a retardation platform’ in 2012, and then there’s this…

RUSH ARCHIVE: Our politically correct society is acting like some giant insult’s taken place by calling a bunch of people who are retards, ‘retards.’

FRANK STEPHENS, SPECIAL OLYMPICS GLOBAL MESSENGER: It’s very hurtful for those who are trying to live in this community. Let’s stop using the R-word. It’s time we come up with a new word: Respect.

COSTELLO: But thanks to the constant R-word banter in the world of politics, Frank might get his wish. Because of Rahm Emanuel’s ‘F-ing retarded’ remarks, Special Olympics officials were able to meet with the president’s chief of staff in the White House. Emanuel and the Huffington Post columnist apologized for their use of ‘the R-word’ but Rush Limbaugh did not telling his audience he was only quoting Rahm Emanuel and in explaining that, that that’s why he used the term R-word. ‘It was satire,’ he said.

KIRAN CHETRY: Mmm’yeah, and he wasn’t just quoting Rahm Emanuel. He went off on his own rant, as well.

RUSH: Based on Emanuel! Based on continuing to embarrass Emanuel! You people don’t understand. You drive us out of our jobs for violating your speech codes, you drive us out of our elective offices for violating your speech codes, and this was just a golden opportunity to ram it back down your collective throats. So you sit around and you sound like stuck pigs and whining little babies. (crying) ‘Rush Limbaugh did it, and what Rush Limbaugh did was worse! Wah, wah, wah! It was worse, and he got on a rant, and it was worse than what Emanuel did and he didn’t apologize. He’s so mean.’

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Speaking of Whoopi Goldberg, let’s not forget this. September 28th, 2009, during a discussion of Roman Polanski’s case, she said that Polanski’s rape of a 13-year-old in 1977 was ‘not rape-rape.’ Not rape-rape. She, of course, had her foul-mouthed appearances for John Kerry and other Democrats during campaigns. She’s upset and says I can’t use satire because I wasn’t at Caroline’s comedy club.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: This is Bob in Hollywood, California. Great to have you on the program, sir. Hello.

CALLER: Yeah, hey, Rush how you doing, buddy?

RUSH: Very well. Thank you, buddy.

CALLER: This one is for Whoopi: For years the left has disavowed everything you’ve ever said because you’re a, quote, unquote, ‘entertainer.’ Now, you go on your satirical ‘retard’ rant and suddenly you don’t qualify as a comedian. I just love it.

RUSH: (laughing) You know, we’ve had three really sharp, brilliant callers today, and you are one of them. That had even escaped me.

CALLER: Well, it wouldn’t have escaped you for long. It would have come to you eventually but I thought I’d have to just get in there.

RUSH: Oh, my gosh, that’s an excellent retort! That’s surpurb. You are almost as good as me at turning it around on them.

CALLER: I tell you what, Rush. I was born to do what you’re doing and I can’t tell you what an inspiration you’ve been. On unrelated topic, I’ve just had a book published that I’m actually sending you a copy of today, gave some of my experiences in the trenches of the Los Angeles Public School District. And I think it’s something you’re really going to enjoy.

RUSH: What’s the title of the tome?

CALLER: The title is ‘Crippled by Compassion: Public Education’s Model for a Whiny, Underachieving America.’

RUSH: I love the title: Crippled by Compassion.

CALLER: Yeah.

RUSH: That’s a great title. I’ll keep a sharp eye out for it.

CALLER: Yeah, I’m sending it to the New York address today, so have a look when you get it.

RUSH: I’ll tell the people up there to keep a sharp eye on it.

CALLER: Great.

RUSH: Just like I’ll be keeping a sharp eye on Biden going to the Supreme Court and the Hillary joining the ticket. (laughing)

CALLER: (laughing) All right, buddy, it’s a pleasure.

RUSH: Can you say desperation? That’s great, Bob in Hollywood. So all these years I don’t count, what I say doesn’t count because I’m an entertainer! Now, all of a sudden, I can’t do satire ’cause I’m not an entertainer, ’cause I don’t go to ‘Caroline’s comedy club,’ quote, Whoopi Goldberg.
