For decades, the American left has demonized their opponents as intolerant –but, as always,it is they who exhibit the very behavior they claim to despise. Case in point, today,is what happened to Crystal Dixon, associate vice president of human resources at the University of Toledo.

She responded to a recent Toledo Free Press editorial concerninggay rights. She wrote that she took “great umbrage at the notion that those choosing the homosexual lifestyle are ‘civil rights victims.'” She made it clear that she was not speaking on behalf of the university, but as a private citizen, in her words, as “a black woman who happens to be an alumnus of the University of Toledo’s Graduate School, an employee, and a business owner.”

For daring to challenge liberal beliefs, she was fired from her job. University of Toledo president Lloyd Jacobs condemned her comments, saying they “do not accord with the values of the University of Toledo,” making it “necessary, therefore, for me to repudiate” her.

Now, you can agree or disagree with Crystal Dixon as you choose. But,she is an American, whose livelihood is now jeopardized for merely expressing a point of view. This is Stalinism on parade –precisely the kind of government-sponsored tyranny the Bill of Rights protects us from. And, make no mistake: Today the true home of intolerance and repression is all too often the American college campus… run by the American left.
