Oxygen Stands by “All My Babies’ Mamas”

by Rush Limbaugh - Jan 9,2013

RUSH: Yesterday, we happened to tell you about an upcoming new television show on the Oxygen network called All My Babies’ Mamas. All My Babies’ Mamas follows a rapper — his name is Shawty Lo — and the 11 children that he has fathered with ten different women. It’s going to start airing sometime in the spring. It was highly touted, a lot of anticipation. But apparently the advocacy group Parents Television Council has this week turned its attention to this show, All My Babies’ Mamas.

They’re trying to get this thing canceled. They have a statement: “Advocacy group the Parents Television Council (PTC) has this week turned its attention to OxygenÂ’s in-development reality television special All My Babies’ Mamas, which features rapper Shawty Lo and the 11 children he has fathered with ten different women. ‘Hollywood doesn’t think there is such a thing as “too low,” so it will continue to find even more base material,’ Dan Isett, director for public policy at the PTC, told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column.

“‘The premise of this show is crass, irresponsible and exploitative. Oxygen should be more responsible. And, yes, we hold advertisers publicly accountable for their sponsorship of this program.'” Now, “it seems the network has no intention of backing away from” this. “‘OxygenÂ’s one-hour special in development is not meant to be a stereotypical representation of everyday life for any one demographic or cross section of society,’ an Oxygen rep stated.

“‘It is a look at one unique family and their complicated, intertwined life. Oxygen MediaÂ’s diverse team of creative executives will continue developing the show with this point of view.'” So they’re not folding on this. The Parents Television Council is trying to dump all kinds of societal pressure on ’em and Oxygen basically blew ’em off. They said: We have a show here, All My Babies’ Mamas. It features a rapper (in Atlanta, by the way) who has fathered 11 children with ten different women.

I think that beats Antonio Cromartie of the New York Jets. Remember, he couldn’t name all of his kids one night on Monday Night Football. He didn’t know their names. He didn’t know all their names, and I think he’s got eight kids with five women or something like that. But this rapper, Shawty Lo — S-h-a-w-t-y, Shawty Lo — has 11 children by ten different women, and they’re gonna follow this guy around in Atlanta on All My Babies’ Mamas.

Again: Oxygen, in defending the show, said our show “is not meant to be a stereotypical representation of everyday life for any one demographic or cross section of society. It is a look at one unique family and their complicated, intertwined life,” and they’re going to follow them around and show America what this family’s life is like. This is Realville. They’re not backing off of this. I’m surprised people would think they would back off of this.

If you look at the illegitimacy rates in the country, if you look at the percentage of single-mother households, this thing is gonna have a huge audience, sadly. This has become a lifestyle to be… I don’t know if it’s admired, but clearly these people are going to become famous, and they’re going to become all kinds of other things. Sympathetic. Admired. How do you think this family is gonna be presented?

Do you think this network is going to frown on any of this? This network’s gonna build them up, talk about the challenges they conquer each and every day, talk about how tough life is in America and what they do to meet those challenges. There will be interviews, and we’ll be sympathizing with them. (Well, those who watch will be sympathizing.) But as I say, why would Oxygen back off?

They know who their audience is. If you look at the statistics, again, I’m just gonna tell you: The illegitimacy rate and the percentage of single-mother households, how many of these types of families are there? How many families are there where some guy has multiple kids with multiple women? Oxygen is obviously thinking that there’s a sizeable audience to be reached here, and they are probably right.

Now Oxygen is acting offended that anybody would be upset with this. And that’s how they’re trying to cover it all up. They’re acting offended, which is an interesting study on how to react if somebody accuses you of having ill intentions. I’ll tell you what’s gonna happen here, folks. I mean, this is the new reality. This is going to be a lifestyle to be admired when this program is over.

When they finish following Shawty Lo around Atlanta with his 11 kids and ten different mothers, it will end up being a lifestyle to be admired. Why else would they do this? You think Oxygen’s gonna condemn this in the midst of it? Do you think Shawty Lo, the rapper here, would agree to do this if he’s gonna be creamed? He’s gonna be a bigger star. He’s gonna become an answer on game shows, a question on Jeopardy.

You never know. The sky is the limit! TMZ will make a big deal out of the guy. He’ll have enough money to buy a house and put all these people in it, and that will make the National Enquirer, and there will be pictures of the house and the interior and all the bedrooms where all the mothers and the kids are gonna live — and all the cars and all the garages — and the Oxygen network is going to reap huge profit.

Uh! Uh! Uh!

Bad word.

Oxygen will be acclaimed for having guts and courage to break new ground in television programming.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Maggie, Round Hill, Virginia, hello, and welcome to the EIB Network.

CALLER: Oh, thank you, Rush, it’s such an honor to talk to you. I’ve been listening to you for about two decades. I wanted to comment on that new show that they’re planning on putting on Oxygen.

RUSH: All My Babies’ Mamas.

CALLER: That’s the one. You know, first of all, I find it to be a complete attack on the nuclear family. They’re degrading family life when they promote this kind of thing. They’re saying it’s okay to just fornicate with whomever. And, you know, if it’s okay to show something like this, where a man has all these women, all these children by all these different woman. Maybe he has one wife. Maybe he has no wife. Then why don’t we just do a show on women who have all these children by different men because you know that happens all the time —

RUSH: You’re missing the point.

CALLER: All right.

RUSH: Your insistence on the nuclear family, mom and dad, the 2.8 kids and the white picket fence and the family dog, that’s exclusionary. You are denying people equality, family equality. It’s none of your business how people choose to live. If a guy wants to have ten mothers and 11 kids, it’s none of your business, and we’re gonna have a TV show chronicling how the guy does it. He’s gonna end up being admired, and you are going to be thought of as a bigot if you continue with this attitude.

RUSH: Shawty Lo, the star of All My Babies’ Mamas, says don’t criticize him, he has taken care of his family because he’s a millionaire. He used to deal drugs, his own admission, but don’t criticize him. He takes care of his family. And we will see you tomorrow.
