Did El Rushbo Ever Get That Lincoln Continental?

by Rush Limbaugh - Jan 18,2013

RUSH: Here’s Bruce in Hollywood, Florida. Great to have you on the program, sir. Hello.

CALLER: Rush it really is a pleasure. Mega dittos to you, longtime listener from your days with Bob Grant at WABC out of New York.

RUSH: Oh, yeah. I remember those days, like they were yesterday.

CALLER: (chuckling) I’m a Florida resident now, living not far from you in the Boca area, but I have a question for ya. Years ago you used to say that you wanted to get a hold of an older style Lincoln Continental and my curiosity has been: “Did he ever get that car?” ‘Cause I know you’re a car buff.

RUSH: You know, your memory… Well, I’m not a real car buff. I used to be when I was younger. I was huge car buff when I was 17.

CALLER: Uh-huh.

RUSH: I got hold of every magazine I could that had pictures of Ford Mustangs, and I’d cut ’em out and I’d put ’em all over the house.

CALLER: Okay.

RUSH: So my dad would see it and get me one. But he never did.

CALLER: (laughing) How’s that working for you, right? (laughing)

RUSH: It was a good lesson. The Lincoln you’re talking about was ’61, the one where the rear door opened backwards.

CALLER: The “suicide doors,” I think they were called, if I’m not mistaken.

RUSH: Right, the same model year that was being ridden in by John Kennedy when he was assassinated. No, I never got one.

CALLER: Ohhh no.

RUSH: Well, when I was final able to, I had outgrown my desire for one.

CALLER: Oh, well, there you go. Tastes change, don’t they?

RUSH: Tastes change, desires. You know, when you can’t have something, I think you want it a little bit more than when you can get it.

CALLER: That’s a very good point. Very good. Well, Rush, again, a pleasure to speak with you, and have a great 2013.

RUSH: Same to you, sir. Are you being facetious?

CALLER: No! I want you to have a great 2013.

RUSH: Okay.

CALLER: As I say, I live in your neighborhood, but that’s as close as I get, and this is a privilege to talk to you.

RUSH: Thank you. No, no. I appreciate it. I’ve had more people wishing me happy birthday than ever before, really. I’ve had more people wishing me a bang-up, great year, and it’s given me hope that people think it’s possible that anybody could have a good year coming up. It’s actually been encouraging.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: That last caller, I mean, that is something else. Of all the things that he could ask me, “Did you ever get that Lincoln Continental that you said you wanted?” I had to search the deep, dark crevices of my own mind to remember that, and of all the things the guy could have asked me about, he chose that. It’s fascinating.
