This is Obama’s War on the Suburbs

by Rush Limbaugh - Jul 15,2014

RUSH: Ladies and gentlemen, as an adjunct, or a continuation of the discussion just now on the polling data, the Washington Post/ABC News poll showing how bad it is for the Republicans, the way they’re handling the immigration crisis on the Southern border. I had a sound bite yesterday from the governor of Nebraska and I did not get to it, and I could shoot myself for not getting to it. I don’t need it now, too late now. It’s my bad. But I can tell you what it was about.

The governor of Nebraska was livid when he found out that a whole slew of these children crossing the border are being dumped in his state and nobody told him, he didn’t know. That was the sound bite. And it’s happening to a lot of governors. They’re not being told. That Border Patrol and Homeland Security and whoever it is, these companies the Regime has hired to handle transportation logistics, they’re just dumping these kids. They’re dumping them with families, I mean, they’re dumping them in houses and homes. They’re not dumping ’em on the street, but the governors of these states do not know it.

There’s a story about this today at National Review Online, Jim Geraghty’s column. Obama’s Feds secretly inserting what are essentially illegal alien invasion forces into the states and not telling state authorities. And there’s a link to the study or the report. We had the sound bite from the governor yesterday. Now, there’s a dot here that is not being connected. You remember me telling you, and I interviewed this guy for the Limbaugh Letter. Stanley Kurtz of National Review wrote a book on his demographic study of what he says is Obama’s war on America’s suburbs. And there is a related initiative at Housing and Urban Development called AFFH, Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing.

Now, Kurtz’s theory is — and you know that leftists are very upset at what they think is the unfairness and the disparity between city dwellers and suburban. They think suburban dwellers are basically effete, elite, upper middle class rich snobs who fled the filthy confines of the city to escape it, leaving behind the poor and the disadvantaged to wallow in the garbage. And this isn’t fair.

So Kurtz has a theory that Obama has a war on the suburbs to take people from the inner city and put them in the suburbs via affordable housing right in these suburban neighborhoods. It is happening, and I will take a break and explain it in a moment.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Stanley Kurtz said in his interview with me in the Limbaugh Letter, as well as in his book, that this transformation of the suburbs would be a major tenet of Obama’s second term.

Now, when did this border crisis start? Second term. What do we have? We’re being overrun. There’s no end in sight, by the way, and the news is that there’s no end in sight. The governments of Mexico and Guatemala are facilitating the trip north by these kids. There’s no end to this, folks. Nobody’s trying to stop it. Obama’s not trying to stop it. The Republicans aren’t trying to stop it. That’s why this poll is so cockeyed.

And these kids, what’s happening to them? Nobody’s allowed to see. Nobody’s allowed to know, are they? That’s why the governor of Nebraska was a little bit upset when he found out that a bunch of ’em are ending up in his state, which takes us back to Stanley Kurtz. Kurtz makes the point that Obama and the left — and this is true, this is not opinion. They will tell you this if you listen to them. They think people that live in the suburbs — well, they resent them. You’ve heard a term applied to suburbanites called “white flight,” have you not? That’s how Obama looks at it.

Obama, Eric Holder, and many on the left in the Democrat Party think that people in suburbia fled the city to get away from minorities, essentially, to get away from the poor. To get away from dilapidated buildings and crumbling infrastructure. They moved to the suburbs and they formed these communities which are clean and prosperous and it’s not fair because the poor couldn’t leave, the poor were trapped. The upwardly mobile, because of their relative affluence, were able to leave and move.

So Obama has had a war on the suburbs. And do not doubt this. This is something that’s never gonna be in the news. This is something that’s part of the Obama agenda that’s never going to be openly stated, just like he never openly stated that he was for socialized medicine. He did in closed session with his union buddy supporters, but he’ll never put it as part of the agenda.

Now, how this is happening is this. There’s an initiative from the Housing and Urban Development department called Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing. The concept, as it is properly understood, is to change the enforcement paradigm in order to allow the Department of Housing and Urban Development to essentially decide what every neighborhood in America should look like. Now, if you go, “Come on, Rush.” Let me just ask you to remember something.

How long is it been, in your memory, that you’ve heard Democrats say that diversity is our greatest strength, diversity is our greatest power, and that we must have a government that represents the diversity of America. We must have cabinet department that represents the diversity. We must have a Supreme Court that represents the diversity. You’ve heard this now. And of course diversity means one thing: skin color. It doesn’t mean different rich cultural differences that they want to meld. This is purely skin color.

It’s a reverse affirmative action kind of thing. But that’s what they mean by “diversity.” They’re skin-deep people, and they simply say, “We have to have diversity based on the appearance of the mixture of the people in any particular group, including a neighborhood.” And if a neighborhood is not properly diverse, then the Housing and Urban Development department, along with its Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing initiative is going to be able to decide and proscribe what every neighborhood in America should look like. So the paradigm for decades has been that discrimination is illegal, right? That has been how everybody has lived and governed their life, discrimination is illegal.

Okay, but discrimination in housing has been illegal for 40 years. Yet we have segregated neighborhoods. Why is that? If discrimination is illegal and yet we have segregated neighborhoods, how is this happening? And it is more often than not, dare I say, because people want to live among their own racial and ethnic roots. It’s not that they’re being denied the chance to live somewhere. It’s that they are choosing to live with, quote, unquote, their own kind. This is especially true among minorities.

So, since the Regime, because discrimination has been illegal for 40 years, they could never prove illegal discrimination, the social engineers in the Regime now say that what they must do is attack the root causes of de facto segregation and find out why people want to live among their own and change that. And the way they’re going to change it is to mandate that states integrate by essentially building low-income housing in nicer suburban neighborhoods. And the penalty would be millions in federal funds would be withheld from municipalities that don’t comply.

You people in Westchester County in New York know exactly what I’m talking about because there is a huge lawsuit going on right now over just this. The Regime is requiring to get even with all of this flight to the suburbs that took place back in the fifties and sixties and seventies. And it’s continued to happen. And it isn’t fair. It just isn’t fair that some people should be able to get out of the hellholes while others have to stay in them. And so, the Regime is going to make it easy for people that cannot escape the hellholes on their own to escape ’em by moving them there under diversity law, anti-discrimination law, the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing initiated.

So what they’re gonna do is build projects, is the name for this low-income housing. Think Pruitt-Igoe. Think Bed-Stuy. They’re gonna build public housing in these affluent suburban areas to make sure that there is diversity. This is what people who are aware of what Obama’s doing are calling his war on the suburbs. I realize some of you are thinking, “Come on, Rush.” Folks, please use your common sense. You know that practically everything Obama’s doing is based on redistribution. Redistribution is what? Taking from those who have.

And why? Because of the belief they didn’t get it fairly. They screwed somebody, they inherited it or they had an unfair break somewhere along the line. They committed some great crime, whatever, it just isn’t legitimate. Nobody who has a lot of money really could get a lot of money with just pure honesty and talent and hard work. So Obama is here to level the playing field, and he’s doing it with the redistribution of wealth.

We got a hundred million Americans not working. They’re all eating. They’ve all got cell phones and they’ve all got big screens and if they wanted to watch the World Cup, they could. We’re converting from full time to part time everywhere so that people have only one place to go for health insurance eventually, Obama, federal government. It’s all happening right in front of your face, right between your eyes you’re being hit, and you can see it happening with both of your eyes.

So to close the loop, we go back to the Southern crisis with these refugees, illegal alien immigrants, and the fact that they are being placed in states where states authorities including the governor are not being told. They’re being placed in the homes of people who are either being paid to take them or who are supposedly their family or what have you, but nobody knows how this is happening.

They’re in the processing centers for such a small amount of time that the medical screenings are not proper. They’re not thorough. So we don’t know what kind of infectious disease we’re importing. We don’t know as much as we should. These kids are being flown out, bussed out, driven out, and they’re ending up all over the country, and there’s no end in sight.

And you don’t think they’re being deposited in these buildings with broken windows on Eighth Avenue, do you? They’re certainly not being deposited there. Make no mistake what this is. There is a deep resentment held by many on the left for those in this country who are affluent, those who “made it” or what have you. It’s cut-everybody-down-to-size time. It’s time to show the United States what life is really like for everybody else.

I have a quote here from John Kerry. He’s — I don’t know — mumbling around out there. He actually said he gets really, really uncomfortable when he hears America talk about exceptionalism. It just really rubs him wrong, just makes him embarrassed and nervous. He doesn’t like when Americans talk that way.

So who they are is an open book, right out in front of you. All it takes is the courage to admit it. And so if you want to know why all of this is being permitted, I mean, there’s any number of correct answers to it, but this is just the latest to throw into the pile.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: So 750 affordable housing projects are being forced on Westchester County, New York. Westchester County, New York, is being forced to build 750 affordable housing projects even though the county is the fourth most diverse in the state. West Chester County rivals Manhattan in the number of black and Hispanic residents, but it doesn’t matter. It’s suburbia. That makes the difference here. Westchester County is suburbia, and they’re gonna be made to look like the city.

Since they had the ability to leave, fine.

“You left, so we’re gonna take the city back to you.”

That’s essentially what is happening.

RUSH: Barry in Sterling Heights, Michigan. I thank you for waiting. Great to have you on the EIB Network. Hello.

CALLER: Hi, Rush. First-time caller.

RUSH: Great to have you.

CALLER: Hey, Rush, we were just watching the news. In Vassar, Michigan, which is up in the thumb, they’re gonna be forcing 120 kids that’ll be 12 to 17 years old from the border. They’re gonna bring ’em all the way up to Michigan, and in a small rural town of Vassar, Michigan, where they won’t really have but local objections. But they did get 300 people objecting to it. They should really not being transferring these people around. They should at the border and force the legal network down there to actually process the people or send ’em back.

RUSH: Yep.

CALLER: But this organization out of Chicago, the Heartland Alliance, contracted with the Michigan children’s social caregiver organization, this Wolverine Human Services, and that’s how they’re bringing ’em in.

RUSH: Yep. They’re one of the many that responded to the ad Obama placed in a federal websites back in January seeking companies with transportation and logistics services to disperse these kids all over the country. And, you know, you take kids from Guatemala, El Salvador, and put ’em up in the thumb of Michigan, as you say, they’re gonna freeze. Anyway, the state authorities are not being consulted. They’re just being (what’s the word?) deposited, planted. They’re just being dropped off.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Anyway, folks, what better way could you think of, if you wanted to implement this so-called Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing. If you have a war on the suburbs and if you resent the people that live there because they had the ability to move out of dilapidated cities and escape dilapidated cities. You’re mad at that and you want to get even with them so you got a war on the suburbs.

You’re gonna do this by building public housing in the middle of these suburban communities. What better way to give a boost to the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Act and the remaking of American neighborhoods than to start injecting illegal immigrant populations into targeted cities and towns in the suburbs all across the country?

It fits perfectly with Obama’s community organizer roots. You overwhelm the local government’s social services with new claimants. That requires higher taxes, higher fees to pay for schools, medical services, disability, unemployment, all that. Massive redistribution of wealth. You’re importing kids. They can’t provide for themselves. They don’t have any skills yet. They’re poor. They need to be totally supported by somebody. Obama to the rescue.

Now, here’s the thing about this. Here’s what you do not know. There are towns all over America standing up to this invasion, just like they did in Murrieta, California. You’re not hearing about it, however, and I am here to tell you why you’re not hearing about it. Westminster, Maryland is a town standing up to it, just like Murrieta, California, did. Oracle, Arizona, is standing up to it.

In Nebraska they’re gonna stand up to it when they find out. The governor is fit to be tied. Upper Michigan, same thing. There are towns all over America standing up to this. There are protests happening, but they’re not being covered. The Drive-Bys are ignoring them and there’s one reason why. The Drive-Bys, do you remember in Murrieta, California, busloads of children, illegals, dumped in Murrieta. The people who lived in Murrieta met those buses with long lines and shouts and turned those buses away. They had meetings with the mayor and the city council and they were committed to not accepting these busloads of illegals in Murrieta, and they turned ’em away.

Now, the Drive-Bys, I am convinced, I’m so sure of this, I think the Drive-Bys didn’t get the reaction from their coverage of Murrieta that they thought they were gonna get. You know what they thought they were gonna get? I guarantee you, when they put pictures of the protesters in Murrieta all over national TV, what they expected was a bunch of other people all over the country calling the people of Murrieta racists and bigots and all of these other insults.

They were thinking that by showing the people of Murrieta refusing to accept these poor, innocent little children, that the people of this country would be outraged at the selfishness of people in Murrieta, California. But that didn’t happen, did it? They thought, the Drive-Bys thought their news audiences would be outraged at the racist and hard-heartedness of the protesters, but that didn’t happen. The viewing audiences sided with the people of Murietta, California. So there won’t be any more coverage of people in these towns where the illegal children are being dumped protesting. No more. You won’t see it because the Drive-Bys didn’t get attraction they wanted.

But rest assured, the protests continue to happen. You know, I’m wondering at what point people are gonna figure this out. It’s gonna be slow, town by town, people are gonna figure out what’s happening to them. We’ve been trying to warn people all over this country for five and a half years of what is ahead and what’s in store for everybody because of this Regime. And, course, we’ve been thought of as various names and this kind of thing. But the reality is gonna hit them at some point. But it’s gonna be too late, I fear. By the time they figure out what’s going on, that there’s something to be worried about, the mechanisms for stopping it will have been exhausted. At any rate, that’s that.

RUSH: Stephanie, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, you’re next. It’s great to have you. Hi.

CALLER: Hi, Rush. Thanks for taking my call.

RUSH: You bet.

CALLER: I just wanted to share my experiences with you. Recently our neighborhood and the neighborhood next to us tried unsuccessfully to fight against the development of a subsidized housing project that’s basically going to be put in our backyard.

RUSH: That would be called low-income housing, correct?

CALLER: Yes.

RUSH: Affordable. Sorry, affordable. Affordable.

CALLER: Affordable, yes.

RUSH: Affordable. Yes. Yes.

CALLER: The kicker is they’re gonna build 35 two- to three-story housing units, a community building, and 76 parking lots in what now is currently a parking lot used by a car dealer on a very busy road, very dangerous for the new residents that will be going into this neighborhood. They estimate 75 to a hundred children will potentially live there, and there’s a lot of things I think —

RUSH: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait just a minute. Did you say 35 buildings?

CALLER: Thirty-five two- to three-story housing units.

RUSH: Housing units, okay.

CALLER: A community building and 76 parking lots.

RUSH: So its own self-contained little project?

CALLER: Right.

RUSH: On a parking lot of a car dealership. Is the car dealer being moved or closed down?

CALLER: No. They just sold this parking lot.

RUSH: All right.

CALLER: It was kind of interesting how it all turned out. One of our commissioners happened to be going door-to-door campaigning, and my mom thanked him and asked about — we were trying to fight — they just recently moved a major road, which kind of opened our street and made it into a throughway which used to be a very quiet neighborhood. So we’ve definitely had some changes due to building and everything getting larger. He then shared that I should look into it because something big was coming. And we happened to, and if we didn’t do that, if that door-to-door information wasn’t shared, we wouldn’t have known anything about this, and this would have been passed without anyone knowing about it, because we don’t always check our board website, our township board website.

RUSH: Right, by design. You weren’t supposed to know about it.

CALLER: Right.

RUSH: Nobody checks the board website.

CALLER: Right.

RUSH: Nobody watches the board’s public access TV show.

CALLER: Right.

RUSH: Nobody watches that stuff, so you weren’t supposed to find out.

CALLER: But I think a lot of people would be interested in knowing the one thing about, when a place like this comes in — now, they’re gonna have the 35 low-income housing, but 10 of them are gonna be Section 8, and six of them will be for mentally ill, four will be for physically ill. We did fight and we actually got it delayed. They had expected to be building it already, and it has not started yet, so we’ve delayed it for a year, which we think is great.

RUSH: Now, I need to ask you a question playing devil’s advocate ’cause I know there are a lot of leftists in this audience who will not admit they’re there, but I know they’re there, and they’re probably shouting at their radio, “Well, what’s wrong with people like that moving into your neighborhood? Who do you think you are? Why is it bad? Why is it bad for people like that to move into your neighborhood? What are you afraid of? Why don’t you like those people, huh? Are you a racist? Are you a bigot? Are you sexist? Do you not like the retarded? What don’t you like about it?” That’s what they want to know.

CALLER: And I can tell you, as a stay-at-home mom, I’ve been at home for eight years raising my two children, and I have made a lot of sacrifices myself. And I’m actually one that I don’t have a fancy phone. I don’t have text messaging, either, just because I want to save money. We’ve lived with the basics, and my husband has two jobs. And for these people to be able to come in, and when you look at the average salary that they’re accepting, from $27,000 to 50,000, and then all the units are gonna have Energy Star labels. You know, the Energy Star rated refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers.

RUSH: Right. I know the drill.

CALLER: Basically my theory is that you should work hard, and if you don’t have it, then you should continue working for it. I understand everybody needs a break from time to time, but I don’t think that you need to be put in a spot where other people will then have to pay for you to do that. Our schools that they’re gonna be going into, they’re already maxed out. They’re actually now gonna have to expand our school, and they’re knocking our middle school down. They’re gonna have to build a new one.

RUSH: Now, Stephanie, let me interrupt you only because of the constraints of time. I’m sure you know this is by design. This is what the noted author, Stanley Kurtz, has written a book about, this that’s happening to you in Mechanicsburg. He calls it Obama’s war on the suburbs, and it is exactly your attitude that Obama would cite as the justification. You say you worked hard? Well, you didn’t. You just got lucky, and maybe your husband does work two jobs, but at least he’s got the freedom to do it. But you’re no different than these other people coming in and you’re no better, and it’s time you learned that, Stephanie.

This is an all-out assault on all the values that you hold dear. I could ask you another question the left would, “Well, when did you leave the city to get rid of these people, to escape these kind of people that you don’t like, because that’s only fair that Obama would put them back where you are.” Did we lose her? Are you still there?

CALLER: I am here. The other thing they do not have to do is they do not have to pay real estate taxes in full like we do.

RUSH: Well, of course not. They’re disadvantaged. Of course not. Why should they? They’ve been given the excrement sandwich their whole life, and it’s time you made it up to ’em, because their plight is because of you and people like you. So learn it, love it, live it.
